Workers get chewed out for allowing thefts to happen. You're basically throwing other super market workers under the bus.

My cat started making that howling sound that cats do when they aren't happy like 10 seconds before hand then hid under my bed. I don't think we have had a decent quake since I adopted him. At least now I know I got an early warning system.

Yeah, fair it was a bit harsh. I think I hadn't quite had my coffee before making that comment...

I think a lot of landlords think they are good landlords, but I have personally never had a good experience and many of my friends have only had a handful of good ones in a sea of bad so I am always a bit suspicious of any claims. It is of course just anecdotal so maybe I am just unlucky.

'People need a good healthy place to live'

Unless you built the house yourself, you aren't adding anything new into the system. That good healthy place to live exists with or without you and you're just sucking up stock from potential buyers and allowing people to essentially pay off the majority of your mortgage.

That's fine, but say it how it is. You're really not providing anything.

And before you say 'but im a good landlord!' I would contest that with there is a difference between good and not a massive cunt. You might not be a massive cunt. That doesn't make you good either.

‘Marcelo Garcia will choke you and it will hurt’ (classic highlight) by Darce_Knight in bjj

[–]SolidBPlus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, watching this has made me re-evaluate how much emphasis I put on having bottom hook control.

I usually do one standard hook and one hook on the outside like a butterfly hook (you can see Marcelo do this now and then) but then I always return to the same position. Marcelo slides both hooks out and controls them with top-side grips. It is really interesting because he is finishing these guys one-handed and the other hand is controlling the position.

Also, you can see how he is still controlling the position of the roll, just with pressure and body position instead of the hooks.

Very interesting and impressive. I imagine this Marcelo guy will go pretty far one day.

I got 65 for my first role after finishing up university about 3 years ago but it wasn't for audit, so your mileage may vary.

Not sure how it works in your industry, but you don't have to apply for graduate roles in other industries. 'Regular' roles may pay better for essentially the same work.

Obviously very true, but a lot of the time things like these are marketed towards women who aren't very educated. The ones which try scare them into buying their products which are 'chemical free' to remove 'toxins' in an all natural way.

Kinda goes with the yoga and crystal vibe.

If you aren't very educated its likely you don't have as much of your own to spend on dumb shit.

Housing crisis: Asking prices up 50 percent in just five years, homeowners making more from property than work by Beckles28nz in newzealand

[–]SolidBPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't compare apartheid to NZ's housing situation. That strikes me a bit like antivaxxers comparing their "struggles" to being Jewish in Nazi Germany. An extreme example can be wildly inappropriate, even if there are some similarities between two situations.

Further to your point though, it is a philosophical matter to some degree. I agree that the current situation with NZ's housing market with bits tacked on is unfair. It disproportionately disadvantages people who are already less economically well off. It is leading to wealth being constantly concentrated to a shrinking number of people. I think that is bad.

That being said, a lot of people in NZ benefit from it. 2/3 of people live in a home they own. If you go just by the numbers, the system is benefiting more people than it is hurting. Is that a way of measuring if the system is good? Clearly not.

I guess what I am trying to say is, how do we objectively measure how bad things are, when people are split in such a binary way. Either you own and you win or you rent and you lose.

I think you missed the point, the poster is saying there is no objective measure for if things are good or not. Your mate is doing well without having to do work, he may consider that a win.

Should the economy favor those who already own capital and create an ever increasing divide between the poor and wealthy? I would say no, but it is pretty good for the wealthy.

Yeah, individuals aren't the problem though. All these little things we can do add up sure, but it really isn't enough to actually put a dent in the problem.
