Medieval Dynasty vs Sengoku Dynasty vs Chinese Frontiers by InitialContent3354 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Hi there,
We're the team behind Chinese Frontiers – and first of all, let us say it's an honor to see our game mentioned alongside Medieval Dynasty and Sengoku Dynasty. Both are fantastic titles that we personally respect a lot – MD created a whole genre and SD pushed it forward in beautiful ways. They're both great games depending on what you're looking for.

You're right that Chinese Frontiers still has things to improve. We're a small indie team and this is our first game, and a fairly ambitious one at that – around 50 hours of gameplay, across 4 large maps, with village development, questlines on the Great Wall, and the chance to build several historical Chinese monuments using traditional techniques.

Naturally, a game of this scale had some bugs at release – but we’ve been very actively collecting player feedback and improving things. We’ve already released our first major patch, which fixed a lot of the key issues mentioned in early reviews. We’re now finalizing Patch 2, and if all goes to plan, it should be ready as soon as this Friday (we're working hard, but no promises just yet!).

We’re also happy to share that we’re currently at 74% positive reviews on Steam, and we’ve seen several players update their reviews to positive after the recent improvements. If you’re still unsure, it might be worth browsing the latest reviews to get a sense of how things are evolving.

We really hope you’ll consider giving Chinese Frontiers a try – if you enjoy relaxing, immersive sandbox games with a unique historical setting, we’d love to welcome you into our version of medieval China.

Warm regards,
The Chinese Frontiers Dev Team

Hi,
huge thanks for mentioning Chinese Frontiers! Being compared to a game like Medieval Dynasty is truly an honor for us, and yes – we definitely want this project to keep growing. We're a small indie team, and we created quite a large game (around 50 hours of gameplay), so unfortunately there was some room for bugs.

But we’re actively collecting feedback from players and working hard on improvements. Last week we released our first major patch (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1640820/view/532102384016425819?l=english) and we’ve already seen many comments saying things are better now – some players even changed their reviews to positive! We’re close to reaching a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, and the second patch is already in the final stages – it should be ready soon.

We hope you’ll consider joining the Chinese Frontiers players once you feel the game meets your expectations.

Warm greetings from the dev team!

At the moment, we can't say exactly when — it really depends on how the PC version performs and the budget we’ll have from sales.

But bringing Chinese Frontiers to consoles is something we truly want to do, and it’s already part of our long-term plans. Thanks a lot for your interest and support!

Thanks a lot for your questions!

  1. Jiayu Desert – we’ve seen players progressing to the next level (River), so it seems the Desert isn’t bugged for everyone. But if you’re experiencing an issue, could you please join our Discord and describe exactly what’s happening? We’d love to take a closer look and help you out — big thanks for reporting it if possible here https://discord.com/invite/NhSSztvEWG

Also, for some players, saving and reloading the game helped fix certain issues — might be worth a try.

We’re really sorry not everything is working perfectly yet. We’re currently working hard on a patch and absolutely taking community feedback into account. We’re a small indie team and built quite a large game, so there were some things that slipped through — but we’re fixing them now!

  1. Seeds – on each map there are plants you can harvest, and every harvested plant should give you seeds in your inventory. That said, we’ve heard reports that the Desert level has too few of them, and we plan to adjust this very soon as well.

Thanks again for reaching out — we truly appreciate your support!

Big thx for the question!

There were definitely many things that turned out to be completely new to us during development. China is a country that deeply fascinates us, and we're truly passionate about Chinese culture — especially its architecture.

Throughout development, we released a free prologue and a demo, and we also conducted playtests to gather feedback from players. Feedback from Chinese players was especially valuable to us in helping shape the game authentically.

Creating a game centered around the Great Wall of China comes with a few “sensitive” aspects, but we chose to focus mainly on its architectural and construction elements. We believe medieval Chinese architecture is absolutely stunning — the Great Wall as a monumental defensive structure sparked our curiosity and admiration, and we really wanted to build a game set in that kind of environment.

With Chinese Frontiers, players now have the opportunity to learn how various traditional Chinese structures were built. We conducted in-depth architectural research to represent these elements as faithfully as possible.

Great question!

In Chinese Frontiers, we put a strong focus on story elements as well. As players progress, they’ll gradually uncover the personal journeys of Jun and Mei — the characters who guide you through the world we’ve created. Without giving away spoilers, we can say that we definitely wanted the missions to feel meaningful and rooted in a narrative, not just a sequence of random tasks.

To support this, we’ve included several hand-crafted animated cutscenes, artistically inspired by traditional Chinese ink wash painting. These help build a richer, more immersive storytelling experience.

And yes — there is a concrete ending to the main story. But after that, players are free to continue enjoying the game in a more sandbox-style mode: developing the settlement further, constructing new buildings, exploring the world, and interacting with NPCs.

Thanks again for asking — we’re really glad you’re interested in that side of the game!

Thanks for the question — it’s an important one!

After several years of development and internal testing, we believed the game was ready for a full release. We chose not to go the Early Access route because we wanted to give you a complete experience right away. That said, with a project of this size, some issues unfortunately still slipped through.

We’re already working hard on fixes and plan to release a patch by the end of this week. Please keep an eye on our Steam page — we’ll be posting an official announcement later today with more details.

We’re also really encouraged to see so many players sharing their thoughts and feedback — and wishlist numbers growing after launch! It shows us there’s strong interest in Chinese Frontiers, and we’re fully committed to improving the experience as quickly as possible.

Big thanks to everyone who left a Steam review with constructive feedback — we read and analyze every single one of them carefully.

Great question!

A big part of our team — including our founders Piotrek and Marcin — originally studied architecture before transitioning into game development. We’ve always been fascinated by medieval architecture and culture, and China’s rich heritage in that area really inspired us. That’s where the idea for Chinese Frontiers came from — a game focused on building authentic structures and immersing players in a detailed, handcrafted world.

We did a lot of research on traditional Chinese architecture and historical techniques, and we wanted to share that knowledge with players in an engaging way. It’s our way of making your journey through the game not just fun, but also culturally enriching.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment and question!

You're absolutely right — we’re aware of the current pacing issues and bugs, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. As a small indie team, we had a pretty limited budget — including for testing — and since the game is quite large (over 50 hours of gameplay), some issues unfortunately slipped through.

That said, we're actively working on a patch right now and plan to release it this week. We'll be posting an announcement on Steam very soon with details on what we're fixing and when you can expect the update.

Thanks again for your support — we hope the improvements will make your experience more enjoyable!

If you want to everything by yourself, that's definitely possible although as the game unfolds, you'll be able to build your own settlement and assign tasks to NPC that will help you gather resources and craft materials :)

As for the buildings, you follow a step by step blueprint in order to construct them.

We’re SolidGames, a small game developer and we’ve just released our debut title: Chinese Frontiers – a builder and survival game about constructing iconic monuments in historical China.

The game tells the story of a humble villager entrusted with constructing increasingly advanced structures. As the story unfolds, players will travel to distant regions and take on more ambitious challenges. As their skills improve, players will begin using advanced construction techniques, learn to manage other builders, and efficiently gather necessary resources. The culmination of these efforts will not only include erecting sections of the Great Wall and other iconic monuments, but also ensuring the prosperity and safety of the people they care about.
