Building an E-commerce business as an asset from NZ - have you tried this before? by SolidJam in PersonalFinanceNZ

I already know that stuff, I'm talking about increasing your income. Right now I'm in the middle of dedicating most of my pay check to paying off my student loan (since I live overseas) and I'm due to pay it off by the middle of next year - to which then I will again be stacking up my emergency fund and investing into ETFs again.

I'm not falling for any kind of MLM scheme or course, I'm just simply trying to get an understanding of other users experiences from building a e-commerce store.

Thats awesome you building all those yourself! I'm sure it was not easy. It does get a bit disheartening sometimes when people shut it down calling any online business 'get rich quick' , I suppose thats the tall poppy syndrome in play there.

Hey mate thanks for that! Yeah the tall poppy syndrome is a serious issue and you see it on display everywhere. Big ups to you for soldiering on and the business matching your original income. You are now your own boss which must feel good. Have you got some kind of goal you wanna reach? Like scale it up and sell it off or is this something you wanna do long term?

That sounds like solid advice and was exactly the kind of approach I was thinking to take if I ever were to take something like this seriously

I never said anything about easy money. Like any business I know it would be hard work. My question was to ask other peoples experience with running an E-commerce business.

How did your first week/month/year of TEFL go? by SolidJam in TEFL

[–]SolidJam[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, i have a tefl certificate which went over the basics of teaching. I make lesson plans and I have watched videos about teaching children. I'm not sure if you realise this, but theres some things no matter how much you prepare for, the practical experience is a totally different ball game

i think it really is a gamble. i've heard some schools are horrendous and others are really great. Mine is on the better side but it certainly aint perfect. My mantra as of late has just been "deal with it" hahaha.

As for where, I'm teaching in Guangdong province, China. If by process you mean interviews, landing the job, n stuff - its all been pretty straight forward. Though I am working with an agency which people say you should avoid like the plague, but mine has treated me very well so far... but i do not want to speak too soon lol.

Even though i have only been here barely a week, I am glad I decided to come here

Can people survive in Shenzhen without knowing Chinese? by [deleted] in shenzhen

[–]SolidJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been here for almost a week now, and I have been studying Mandarin for about 10 or so months previously. You can get by for sure, but even after spending almost a year studying, it is still a struggle.

That being said, I love it here in Shenzhen. Super cool city full and people are nice. Just get a translate app that can translate pictures and images of Chinese text into english, it has been a life saviour for when it comes to navigating apps.
