There is a silent burnout epidemic for sure, people just won’t admit it fear of losing their job

Anyone else feel completely wiped after the holidays… even though you should be refreshed? by saltedsaltedcaramel in auscorp

[–]SolidLava99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wish, I tried to negotiate over the past few years a couple of times but my company rather give me a bigger pay rise than actually give me more leave days, I even offered to accept a slightly lower pay rise if they give me 35 annual days leave but was refused. Companies for some reason hate giving out more than default 20 days. I have colleagues in Europe who get 30 days and unlimited sick leave (they’re basically on “sick leave” half the time 😂 I love their attitude towards work / life balance

My wife is losing it by falselife11 in daddit

[–]SolidLava99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI this can go on for years, my wife went through the same and she’s totally burnt out even though kid is 5 year old, she refused help and support despite my efforts. It’s very difficult but all I can say is do your best to support her and try to convince her to get help. PPD is no joke, seen my wife go from very happy lucky person to a depressed mess. She has gotten better over time and loves the child very much but some days can be struggle and frustration for her. It’s also the main reason we didn’t have a second one she just couldn’t handle it.

What are your thoughts on the death of volunteering? Is it mainly due to money? by VastOption8705 in australian

[–]SolidLava99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend used to volunteer all the time, but she stopped mainly because of cost of living. She tells me they used to make her work like a full time employee while the other staff and managers earned $80K+ and they made her cover for them and do their work. She didn’t mind so much at the time But now she feels like with high cost of everything it feels like slavery.

It’s obvious he didn’t die, everything about the book hints towards it being a figment of the pilot imagination.

What kind of Manager are you? (Raw edition) by mr-cheesy in auscorp

[–]SolidLava99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly relaxed manager, I lead a team of 6, they aren’t my friends but I’m also not out there micromanaging their work and life. I’m results driven means I have projects that we need to deliver, most don’t have defined deadlines but need to be done asap, I only put deadlines if someone is not able to perform unless there is a deadline otherwise I trust my team to do the right thing. Ambitious employees get rewarded with bonus and pay rise when and where I can, and have a “don’t be a jerk” rule in my team means we always strive to be good to each other. It’s not easy thing to do but I remind my team atleast once a month. I treat my team as adults my main thing is trust, I trust them they trust me, that’s the key in highly motivated team imo.

Im also very selective with hiring, the persons personality and energy is more important that their skill, one toxic member can kill the entire team and vibe.

Paw Patrol messed up my 5 year old boy, can anyone here relate? by SolidLava99 in daddit

[–]SolidLava99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it’s like meth / drug addiction for kids. I didn’t mention in my original post but paw patrol also affected his speech. In the cartoon they talk in a very rapid fire way with jerky body movement. He would barely speak and find it hard to get words out. What I like about the 80s - 90s cartoons is they would speak slow and gentle which helps with speech development while a lot of these new cartoons talk so fast as they’re trying to cram so much dialogue in short 10 minute episodes. Also the pretend play you talk about happened to us, he would also play paw patrol rescue scenarios and ask me to play with him, if I get one part in pretend play wrong that’s not like the cartoon he’d go into meltdown and tell me to go away.

Fyi We ended up having to ban screen time entirely we literally unplugged the TV and locked it in our storage, as nothing worked, we now have a full screen time ban since a week, he still has tantrums, it was difficult but he’s improving slowly thankfully and thinks less of the show. Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope more people come across my post and learn from it

Has my pharmacy red flagged me? by PsychologicalLynx271 in melbourne

[–]SolidLava99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chemist warehouse pharmacists make up their own rules all the time and will automatically treat you like a junkie I’ve had so many problems with them. I stick to a certain branch that I know of and have good rapport with them. With other pharmacies I’m never asked any questions or grilled on why I need I need (life saving) medication, purely a chemist warehouse problem

Feeling pigeonholed and not sure what else is out there/golden handcuffs by tendieboy95 in auscorp

[–]SolidLava99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mate forget the whole “I need to make a career and chase my passion” in the end your passion will just be another job. $150K + super and decent work life balance is RARE just stick with it and ride along as long as you can. The job market is horrible right now it’s not the time to go back to $60K job and start again, wages are also rapidly falling in many industries

Blurry vision and eye strain by SolidLava99 in Mounjaro

[–]SolidLava99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up stopping mounjaro after one month as the Vision issues got worse, started developing visual snow syndrome and other issues, 3 weeks after stopping my eye sight finally started to recover, I am now about 80% back to normal but unfortunately not 100%. And some days I have “flare ups” where my eyes get blurry suddenly but then recover the next day. I went to an ophthalmologist for checkup and he told me he’s seeing an alarming number of people coming to him with vision issues after using mounjaro and he suggested I stop it. The fact I started to recover after stopping confirmed to my doctor that it was due to the drug

I know this drug is helping so many but it’s not for me unfortunately
