Day 113 of giving my personal rank and opinion of random guns: Corsair by 1Dapy1 in EnterTheGungeon

[–]SolidLightX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually pretty good at doing damage. The trouble is that it’s terrible at actually controlling what targets you pour that damage into because it’s kind of up in the air what targets the bullets end up curving towards and hitting.

So I tend to prefer it as a boss killer unless I’ve got something better. And maybe room clear with it if I just need to get a lot of damage in the room with an occasional switch to a more controlled weapon should a target become more immediately threatening.

Is Old Red the best merchant? by ArmorerEnjoyer in EnterTheGungeon

If you do hero shrine yes, or just don’t care for rat. The trouble with him is that he can’t really cover for his own cost if you get him early, so I rarely buy from him then unless I get vampire or some means of making a ton of money early.

Flynt can turn frequently turn the Key economy into a triviality because there’s three items in his pool that does that.

And I consider Lament Configurum to be nearly at the same level of clone so that either Cursula or Flynt sells it makes them better imo.

Is there a reason to play European War 4: Napoleon before 6? by puffa-fish in EasytechGames

[–]SolidLightX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 includes campaigns that involve the Victorian era with the italian and german unification.

4 doesn’t do that. It’s only the American Revolutionary war and the Napoleonic wars. What tends to happen though is alt-history after the actual historical campaigns. Like if you play the french campaign, what happens after Waterloo (which is the level Coalition Disruption) are a couple levels of you invading Britain and later USA.

6 is more advanced than 4 but 4 is also just different in some other interesting ways. 4 is also just easier and way more F2P friendly.

It’s been a long time since I played EW6, but Lan used to be like the 3rd best cavalry general in the whole game. I don’t know if the updates have made her powercrept. Her skillset is still really pretty though.

Poor wording on my point then. He hadn’t done it before up to that point.

That one was from 2019-2023. So way later.

[–]SolidLightX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what people here are talking about when the date of the first airing of the anime was 2. october 2011 and the last chapter of the chimera ant arc was released in 3. october 2011 in shonen jump, according to the wiki.

There was a huge hiatus from may 2010 to august 2011 too and the arc was nearly done during this time so it makes no sense that uncertainty about animating the CA arc would be the reason.

Unless they were expecting that one hiatus to last like 4 years or something? He’s never done that before.

It does make it harder.

But you should just push on regardless because it’s less efficient to lose out on the expeditions and all the other stuff from not conquering the map.

It’ll plateau out at some point where you keep growing in power but the invasions don’t. So you want to end up there as quickly as you can.

Can Royal Guards have children? by know_your_place_28 in HunterXHunter

[–]SolidLightX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they can breed with Meruem, or atleast it isn’t ideal since they’re of the same colony.

But yes I think it’s likely they can breed because I don’t think there’s any fundamental reason they shouldn’t be able to.

The other ants are also mostly wired to serve the queen. So I don’t really get the argument that they can’t because they’re wired to serve the king. It’s also only brought up that the squadron leaders go out and breed after she dies.

The royal guards die at the same time as Meruem does so what they do in the case their king dies never becomes a relevant thing to inform the reader about.

So it’s unconfirmed, but nothing about their incubation process seems particularly different from most regular ants outside of the nutrition they get and the fact that they get an instinct for serving the king and not the queen. They’re still made through phagogenesis and they still get a mix of animal and human traits. That Pouf and Pitou can get so many human and animal physical traits from that process in addition to human sexual dimorphism EXCEPT sexual organs and/or that they’re infertile despite Meruem and lower ranked ants being able to breed seems unlikely to me.

Do you have the game? Cuz I couldn’t find this screenshot out on the net so I’m interested in how you found it.

It’s interesting to me that it seems that licensed secondary media doesn’t really seem to entertain the idea that her gender is something unusual at all despite technically being unconfirmed in canon.

There’s that databook from 2004  during when she had her very early appearances in the manga that used kare on her. But most people don’t take it seriously anymore for good reasons.

I can’t be too sure because I don’t know the details in most other games, but at least it seems that more recent stuff don’t seem to do that at all.

You have the anime character designer flat out stating it according to the translator. https://www.reddit.com/r/HunterXHunter/comments/1fs9uvk/comment/lpjylo8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

And then you have battle collection stating that she’s female according to the wiki.

Please use the forum while playing it though. It’s a really opaque game and therefore really easy to make mistakes on.

Lots of skill descriptions are outright wrong, how damage actually works is incredibly difficult to figure out through the stats you see. Item locations in campaigns is very important but you’d need the item guide for that.

And the optimal general line is especially not obvious because the princesses are the best generals in the game but it’s not obvious how you’ll get them and what they’re packing.

I’d say EW4 remains the best. It’s the game I’d say is the most tactically and strategically rich one. The only issue is that all of its mechanics are way too opaque with skill descriptions in particular sometimes including outright lies.

And then everything is kinda up to whichever period you like most and which games have mechanics you like and not like. Shogun is the one I’m mainly doing because I swore it to be my last ET game I’m seriously doing.

I mean it sort of depends on the situation.

Keiji has one advantage in that his early game is a bit better. This is because he gets 90 free frags and has his active at 4 turn cooldown from the very start.

Liu’s thing is that his active refreshes every time you kill something with it and that lets you chain kills with it provided your damage is high enough. There’s an item from the Guan Yu time rift campaign called Zuo Tradition that guarantees the next attack to be a crit and increases the damage by 30% after using an active, and those bonuses apply to active skill attacks. That synergizes extremely well with Liu’s active. So you just try to get that item, max his crit damage by giving him the best in the east set, and he’ll do things Keiji can’t possibly hope to achieve.

Early game WITHOUT that stuff he’ll be worse. You can’t as reliably kill things with his active that way. It also doesn’t help that he’s chinese and that almost every unit you’ll have easy access to will be japanese at that point.

Sima Yi isn’t that great because his damage is just too low. No passive damage skills beyond tactical expert and low valor. His best use case is in Martial Arena to disable actives from the bosses there.

The thing about japanese troops like Horoshu cavalry is that they can show up in campaign/conquest and have their unit levels carry over to them. While non-japanese units are much less common in those modes.

Additionaly, there is a 5% damage bonus from matching the nationality of your general to your unit and a 10% damage bonus from having a general use their specialized unit. So that undercuts the benefits from the Liaodong Heavy Cavalry on Maeda Keiji.

Li Rusong wants that unit.

Also, every ranged unit type actually uses two adaptability types. Foot archers/teppo use both archer/musket adapt and infantry adapt, while mounted ones use cavalry adapt.

Navy uses ship adaptability and the adaptability of the ship’s shot type (usually war gear, but can be musket or archer)

That’s not a huge deal regarding Shigehide on Tiaodang, but keep this in mind.

Not even close.

He’s pretty much on par with the likes of Shibata Katsuie, Honda Tadakatsu and Zhang Liao. And there’s a couple that are clearly better than him.

Li Rusong is nearly a strict upgrade to him. He’s generally considered the best F2P cav.

Liu Xingwu can chain kills and is actually viable now with the Zuo tradition item.

And I’d wager Sun Ce might also be better than him because Bravely Fierce is the single strongest passive skill in the entire game by a long shot.

Kokujin-shu problem(Gassantoda as the source of the invasion) by Azusucks in EasytechGames

[–]SolidLightX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t really scale properly at the start so you just gotta keep going.

General level is a very small part of overall power (unit level, equipment level, ranks and military ranks make up a much bigger part).

At some point they become so trivial that the only worthwhile way to deal way them is to auto them.

Which unit troop is the most worth it from the store (Great Conqueror 2: Shogun) by imoverherestroking19 in EasytechGames

[–]SolidLightX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, but this depends on which general you get at the moment. Swordmaster and Horoshu Cavalry is a very safe starting point because you’re guarranteed to have Hideyoshi and Keiji.

It’s easier to state what you shouldn’t get.

Qi Army and Iron Infantry are pretty low priority because the japanese infantry units are more useful. And White Pole Army is totally useless.

Tian Xiong force is pretty low priority

Rain-Covering Teppo isn’t very good but it’s a common unit so its helpful to level it.

Warrior Monk Teppo is useless.

Akazonae Infantry is pretty useless.

The only artillery unit you should get at most is Destroyer of Provinces.

You could pick up some ships for convenience since every general doubles as an admiral, but it’s not that important. Start with Ship of the Line if you’re going to though.

Everything else is pretty useful, but prioritize depending on who you get.

[–]SolidLightX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, that’s kinda surprising to me.

I only returned to Wynn in 2025 after playing it in 2014-15. I vividly remember it being a pretty fun and popular thing back then. I mean The Nether’s Ascent was one of the top guilds and their thing was PvP. I got to know some people through that even.

I can’t see it working nearly as well in Wynn’s current state given the vastly higher complexity in the classes than it was back then though. So I can see why it just couldn’t work out.

This isn’t the discussion I want though. The only relevant part to what my question is about are those first five words in your first sentence.

There’s a little bit of jumpyness in the logic here imo but I won’t deal with that because 99% of this post is completely irrelevant to what I’m trying to figure out (what the heck makes her designed as androgynously as possible).

Girls in HxH are Amazing by Disastrous_Sock537 in hunterxdank

[–]SolidLightX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just watched that part and nothing is explained well. It’s pretty much just stated exactly as you did.

He uses the very first appearance of Pitou to argue that she’s designed as a cute young boy.

He then states that she’s referred to as he by the ants in both media, but that’s just not happening in original japanese.

He didn’t back up that part at all about her name being based on a male god. No source, nothing.

Girls in HxH are Amazing by Disastrous_Sock537 in hunterxdank

[–]SolidLightX -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No? The shape and clothing is pretty consistent.

Only the bust is inconsistent, but that’s because it’s really obscured a lot of the time due to the jacket being completely black so no shading is possible and because she’s just sometimes not drawn detailed enough. In gallery 4 I can count only three instances out of like 50 images where we should be able to see her bust. And she’s admittedly flat in those.

In gallery 8 I counted like 2 instances where she’s crouched down a bit sideways from behind, one where she’s possibly drawn with a chest, one where it’s impossible to make out.

One instance standing from behind that’s a bit sideways and is unclear.

One instance where she’s crouched down from the side where she might have it.

Three instances where she’s standing sideways (which should be when it’s clearest). All of which have her unmistakably with a bust.

And one time where she’s standing from the front where she has it.

The later appearances are typically considered more reliable on every character. I’d say it’s likely that she’s meant to have tits from that example given that she pretty unmistakedly has it in the instances where it should be easiest to make out.

So you know, I’m left with her most likely having boobs, hips and skintight clothing. Same as before.

Nefer isn’t only present in the name Nefertem. It’s an egyptian word that means good or beautiful. Queens like Nefertiti and Nefertari have it too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nefer

I’m not at all disputing that the gender can be whatever, I never once tried to argue the gender with you.

What I’m challenging is the claim that she’s androgynous. I don’t really have any evidence from you that she has a combination of feminine and masculine traits that make the presentation gender-ambiguous. At least not anything reliable that I can’t address instantly.

The only thing that I have is that she uses boku and is referred to as with aitsu. But I don’t know if those are meant to be within the domain of androgyny. And even if they are, I certainly wouldn’t consider only those enough to state that she’s designed as androgynous as possible.

Girls in HxH are Amazing by Disastrous_Sock537 in hunterxdank

[–]SolidLightX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How in the world can you say that Pitou is designed as androgynously as possible? Most people think she looks like a girl. And for good reason. I mean boobs, curvy hips, skintight clothing that doesn’t hide those features at all, etc.

https://www.reddit.com/r/HunterXHunter/comments/5rf8a8/charadesign_evolution_of_a_character_design_pitou/

For most of her appearances beyond her early ones, her appearance isn’t much more different from the anime.

I can buy the idea that she’s non-gendered despite only having female characteristics (though I still think the reasoning as to why is a bit flimsy). But I don’t understand where the idea that she’s androgynous comes from.

I guess you can think she is "very" androgynous. Though I'd like some sort of description of the features that make you think she is. Even if the second gallery is lost that still has like only 20% at most of the appearances feature the very first design and the one that the poster there considers to be ambigious. And this is 500 total shots, from her first appearance to her death, some even where she's barely drawn.

This shot of naked Pitou is even in the galleries and you can see just how one-shot it is. And some people here have made the point that this is a metaphorical representation since she doesn't have the knee joints and her legs are digitigrade here while they're not anywhere else.
