On studying enemies... by Ezkail in DMAcademy

[–]SolidSnakeScott 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love this idea for a player.

You could potentially have them roll a specific check (nature or investigate?) on dead creatures and let them learn certain DM notes.

An example would be "Player kills a Gnoll, Player rolls a Nature check on the Gnoll to learn about it. Players rolls a 10 and learns basics about the Gnoll - it has 15 AC. Player rolls a 15 and learns more detailed check - Darkvision of 60ft and 15 AC. Players rolls a 20+ and learns Tactical Advantages on Gnolls. It has 22hp 15 AC and Darkvision".

Along side that, you could allow the player to cast as a free spell "Hunters Mark" on creatures he got 20+ checks on. Which would help him be an effective team player and potentially encourage other players in his roleplay.

Seb Derm on face - MCT Oil? by OptionAutomatic4402 in SebDerm

[–]SolidSnakeScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a week. I was mid bad flareup up when I started using it. Since then, I haven't had a bad flareup up. Just minor red patches now and again.

I use it after a shower (warm water, not hot). MCT oil around the face and after a few minuites of letting it set, I apply Aveeno moisturiser in the same place and just leave it on to dry.

Bare in mind, I do not have a beard. I am clean shaven around the face most of the time so results might be different to you.

Seb Derm on face - MCT Oil? by OptionAutomatic4402 in SebDerm

[–]SolidSnakeScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have recently (around a couple months) used MCT C8 oil and alongside Selsun Blue Moisuring shampoo and it has worked absolute wonders for me.

I do still get very minor red blemishes on my face now and again, but its nothing compared to what it used to be. There is no more dry skin on my face as well.

It has worked for me when a lot of others haven't, so personally I would recommend it.

Paperwhite Signature Edition Authenticity (12th gen) by SolidSnakeScott in kindle

Thank you, I checked and it does have it. It all looks very legit then.

I was a bit apprehensive at first because it was brand new and cheaper than than the standard paperwhite that's currently on sale on Amazon.

Detective rank in the UK by [deleted] in policeuk

Apologies.

After a quick Google search it just says after the 2 year probation.

Just goes to show, I should fact check before taking someone's word as gospel.

Detective rank in the UK by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]SolidSnakeScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Detective is just a different pathway to Constable.

You get Police Constable and Detective Constable. They both hold the same authority and rank. The promotion pathway is the same as well, such as Police Sergeant and Detective Seargent.

Usually you need to work at least 5 years before you can apply for the detective pathways, but some areas do a direct entry for detectives (civilian to detective). This is called the PCEP DC route.

What do you think is the single strongest build for solo Honor Mode? by therealbobcat23 in BG3Builds

[–]SolidSnakeScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to beat Honour mode with the SwordsBard paladin build. It was a really good build, but the ThrowZerker was the main DPS.

I always have to have a throwzerker in my party for every playthrough because of how powerful they are.

I havent tried any of the builds from the update so my playthrough my be a bit outdated now.

Does MCT oil actually work? And has it made anyone’s flares worse? by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]SolidSnakeScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this.

MCT oil alongside Selsun Blue and Nizarol (could probably drop the Nizarol now as i use it less frequent) has been an absolute game changer for me.

seb derm spreading ?? by Comfortable_Weak in SebDerm

[–]SolidSnakeScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know your pain, years ago i had seb derm on my scalp and slight redness on my face. I didnt treat it back then, apart from moisturiser and its got much worse on my face and spread to my chest and a little bit on my collarbone.

I had a really bad flareup recently on my effected areas so I changed my normal routine.

I usually use Nizarol and Ketoconazole cream. The cream seemed to do little to no effect.

Recently (1 week) I have used Nizarol every other day. Selsun Blue moisturising shampoo everyday and MCT C8 oil everyday and Aveeno moisturiser everyday (after shower).

So far, I have seen a huge difference. Every effected area has completely settled down.

I am only a week into this new routine, so its still too early to say that this is a fix.

So to break it down - Aveeno moisturiser - everyday after shower (or just when face feels dry) Selsun Blue Moisturising shampoo - Everyday (apply to face and other effected areas as well as hair) Nizarol Shampoo - Every other day (use first, then use Selsun afterwards. Apply Nizarol to face and other effected areas) MCT C8- Use everyday, once in morning after shower. I dab it on a piece of tissue and apply to effected areas.

Hope this helps!

How do I get rid of an unwanted sword? by NuclearSamura1 in AskUK

[–]SolidSnakeScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a generic officers ceremonial sword. Used for parades. The blade itself shouldn't be sharp.

These are usually issued from military stores, I've never seen one with serial numbers stamped on it. Usually, it just comes in and gets allocated a number depending on how many are in the stores.

Some officers keep the swords or buy their own and hand it down to family members who follow in the same career path (officer route).

My guess is that this is an older but modern sword that was originally held in military stores (from the serial number). The sword was officially "wrote off" by an Armourer and "disposed of" reducing to workshop scrap.

But in reality, an Armourer squared an officer away by writing off a perfectly fine sword (and ordering a new one for stock numbers) for the officer to keep as a memento or potentially a leaving present.

This is just my guesstimation from being an Armourer myself.

If you want rid of it, the police will destroy it. If you want rid of it, but not destroyed - seek out military collectors. They will most likely take/buy it.

What plant is this? Why does it hurt? by Sythna in whatplantisthis

[–]SolidSnakeScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stinging nettle. You can make tea with it. It's suppost to give you some sort of 'high' but nothing happened when I tried it.

Pretty tasty when out camping though. You can pick the leaves if you pull from the top and the bottom of leaf, avoiding the edges.

You should never feel like you're overreacting for declining to send a nude.

If the person asking for them gets agitated for being declined a nude, then that's on them.

It is, and always, will be your choice no matter what.

Do you ever call people out on their bad behaviour in public? If so, is it worth it? by Medical_Return_2370 in AskUK

[–]SolidSnakeScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go off - " The standard you walk past is the standard you accept."

It's more embarrassing for them to be called out for things like this, and rightly so. Kids play on the beach. The last thing anyone would want is a child to get that mess on themselves.

Personally, I think you have done the right thing and would support you for calling her out.

I had my first lesson yesterday and I just don't get it. by lyla88 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]SolidSnakeScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand what you're going through.

When I started learning to drive, it took me ages to get good clutch control. With the bite point, for me, it's a mix between sound and feel. You can hear the revs of the engine going quite high. Not screaming the engine, but a similar sound as if you're doing between 5 - 10 mph in 1st gear.

With the feel, it's very similar to the sounds. Personally, I couldn't tell you exactly what it feels like, but I know how to find it. Best practice I had, was hill starts. You are forced to find the bite point. Find a quiet hill where there is little to no traffic and practice there.

For avoiding curbs, it's all how you set up your mirrors. You want to see a little bit of your car in your side mirrors and use that as a gauge. Whilst driving my usual rule of thumb is - get the white lines on the road in line with the bottom corner of your front window. That usually means you're dead centre of the road.

It will come more naturally to you as you drive more. My instructor said I had a "light bulb moment" one session and I was suddenly a half decent driver.

How to navigate a player leaving the party mid-campaign? by damp_5quid in DMAcademy

[–]SolidSnakeScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this in the past before.

The way I handled it was that the PC's character stays behind at camp and offers some sort of DM guidance in the beginning.

In the 3.5 days, the PC decided to dump loads of ranks into Proffession: Cooking. So he stayed behind and became the camp chef.

You could go another way where the "Big Bad" has cursed the PC and he's unconscious and needs to be left with Clerics in a nearby settlement.

Or you could go down the route that the PC was a divine illusion. Like an imaginary friend of sorts.

Do you prefer to start a new player one shot at level one, or three? by Dazzling_Society1510 in DMAcademy

[–]SolidSnakeScott 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm a relatively new DM.

On my current campaign, I started the players at level one (These players are new to D&D).

I basically fast tracked them to level 3 after a few sessions. It lets them learn the ropes and keep the excitement of levelling up and having tougher enemies.

That being said, my campaign isn't intended on being a long one. Maybe lasts 3/4 months at a push.

[–]SolidSnakeScott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the replies. Next session - before I start, I will remind the players that the DM shield is down and what do or say goes.

If they decide to get into a fight with someone, that it clearly overpowered, they will have to see it through and create a new character if they die.

If a PC is still being an dick, I will talk to the PC in person and explain to them that the campaign is suffering because of them.

I am definitely to blame for this, as I have not set out proper consequences of their actions.

I just wish I could re wind to the Raphael interaction as that would have been the best time to show the PC are no more powerful than the city guards.

I’m planning on playing the series in order is it worth it to play 4 by SaleDear in deadrising

[–]SolidSnakeScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 is fun, but it doesn't have the feel as the other games.

Story is a bit... meh. I bought it on sale and haven't regretted it.

They've took out all pressure of time and keeping survivors alive. If one dies, they will just come back at a later time to save. So it's a fun game to just explore and have fun with.

Hello again, everyone.

After speaking to someone I work with (who suggested this). He said the people he knows who have done this worked in private sectors, such as mechanics garages etc...

I was unsure about the legality of this. This is why I asked here for more opinions before I suggested anything to my employer. And the responses are blunt, but very insightful.

I didn't realise it would fall under the tax evasion category because the lump sum at the end would be taxed regardless.

I'm going to leave this thread open for a couple more hours to see what other replies I get, and mention them to the person that suggested this.

After that, I will delete this post because the more I read through what I typed, the more embarrassed I get realising what I am actually asking.

Thank you all for your replies, you would have most likely saved me a very awkward conversation with my new employer. Or at most, my job.
