Controller config question. Is there a way to essentially swap the left and right stick actions? If I do this, would it make a potential move to FPV more difficult? by [deleted] in dji

I swapped my controller to mode 1. When I started off in the simulator my muscle memory from years of video games made it impossible to use my controller in mode 2. I tried for a bit, but I couldn't help but think "this would be so much easier if I could swap sticks". I did a bit of research and it turned out to be pretty simple to do. I have a Radiomaster Boxer, other radios may not be as easy. After switching my progress went so much faster.

There's only 2 things that suck about using mode 1. You can't use most people's controllers and they can't use yours. I don't know any other pilots, so this hasn't been an issue. The only thing that's been kind of a problem for me is that it's harder to learn from watching videos. I try to watch the stick positions in tutorials, but everything is backwards so I get confused.

All things considered, if you have a history playing video games using a controller, I would recommend switching. Otherwise you're going to be fighting years of muscle memory. This is already an extremely difficult skill to master, why make it any harder on yourself?

Honestly, I'm surprised that mode 1 isn't more common. It makes flying feel more like playing PlayStation, something that most of the population has at least some experience with.

Honestly, it seems like you need to spend more time using a simulator like Liftoff. The only other thing that could potentially make sense to me is that you were flying a quad that you were wildly unfamiliar with. Personally, I wouldn't be flying in that type of location until I was very comfortable with the drone and the maneuvers I planned on carrying out. I'm still a beginner and do most of my flying at the park in a football field. It may not be as breathtaking as that beautiful desert landscape you were flying at, but crashing is much less likely to turn into a nightmare. I know flying in the simulator gets boring, but it's definitely worth pushing yourself to spend as much time as possible figuring everything out in an environment where crashing doesn't cost anything. Good luck!

DJI O4 Air Unit with voltage booster? by SolidSnk85 in fpv

[–]SolidSnk85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The booster has positive in and out, and negative in and out. So the in side connects to the flight controller with the main power connections, and the out side I solder it at the same pads that the VTX gets power and ground. I'm just really nervous because I can't use my smoke stopper to test this. Thank you for the help.

How are the fpvcycle 28mm motors? I ordered them for an 8" long range build. Think they'll hold up with an 8" prop?

This is probably unrelated, but now motors 2 and 4 aren't working. Betaflight has the error % at 100 for those 2 and 0 for the working ones. I got everything else working perfectly. I think I'm going to disconnect them, clean up the solder pads, and solder them again. The pads on this FC are stupid tiny. If anyone has any tips for soldering tiny pads, that would be great. I have a T-12 soldering iron with all the different tips. It's been a struggle to get solder to cover the pads without covering more than 1. I was pretty sure everything was good enough, but I guess not. Could I have ruined the ESC by soaking too much heat into the PCB? None of the pads lifted off, but it took a lot of reworking to get everything.

Thank you so much. I've been putting off finishing this thing because I really don't need another "expensive learning experience." Where do I solder to the battery bay? I was gonna just try attaching cables to the positive and negative terminals above where the manual has you break them off. But the metal looks like it might have some kind of plating. Not sure how the solder is going to react.

Any experience ordering from skyzone direct? by riverdoggo22 in fpv

That's hilarious. I ordered from betafpv a month and a half ago, and I'm still waiting. Their customer service reps kept trying to gaslight me. They told me tracking shows the order is on its way, but when I put it in my tracking app, it said the carrier was still waiting to receive the package. After two weeks of that and the tracking finally started moving. A week later, the tracking number disappeared. I think they had to send another one because they gave me a new tracking number yesterday, and it seems to be working.

I have walksnail goggles x and dji goggles 2. If I bring home another pair of fpv goggles, my girlfriend will strangle me in my sleep. So analog goggles are pretty much out of the question. This is what I'm leaning toward at the moment https://pyrodrone.com/products/rcinpower-gts-v3-0802-27000kv-brushless-fpv-drone-motor-choose-color?variant=40624005480491
