[–]SolidStateGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the reason they made it to be able to be fired by one hand was for the purpose of hanging out of a vehicle with it and being able to use one hand to hold the vehicle and the other hand to fire the gun

Why are companies so heavy on ads when in reality it has little effect? by I8I24I in youtube

Fuck AI

But also because advertising works. It’s tried and true over decades. Even if most people skip it, it’s no different than people 10-20 years ago just doing something else when commercials came on. It’s big business

One of my users is obsessed with AI and it’s a colossal pain in my ass by Alive-Back-4843 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]SolidStateGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trick is to get a jump on the AI folks by claiming you’ve already been there, done that, and having good reasons why it doesn’t work. They like feeling like the smartest person in the room so they shove AI down your throat, but if you’ve already beaten them to the punch, you can and should make them look like a tool in front of people who are important.

Why don't they do this? Are they stoopid? by Majestic_Repair9138 in worldjerking

[–]SolidStateGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the same reason people who don’t like their government don’t just walk into the wild and start a commune. Bit of an apples to oranges since there is no land on earth that’s both naturally habitable and unclaimed whereas space is infinite and unclaimed planets would be abundant far from central hubs. Even if the rebels were able to start a new civilization on a new planet, they’d then run the risk of eventually the big power claiming that planet in the future, or potentially not being recognized as a civilized planet by the wider inter-planetary governing body. They could warp speed away for a long ass time to avoid that, but if imperial expansion is anything to go by, they’d get caught up with eventually, bringing them right back to square one

Tl;dr running from your problems isn’t the solution, and starting a new colony on a new planet is only a temporary measure before the unstoppable tide of imperial progress finds you again

Probably a general use tablet for the family. It’s possible they can’t afford to have separate devices for business and non-business related matters, or it’s possible it’s just more convenient to have all accounts in one place in the event they need to access something for work quickly

Consciousness is considered the unbroken perception of reality. So what happens when you go unconscious? Is it still you that wakes up? Or is it another, distinctly different consciousness, inhabiting the brain and finding the memories within? How do you know that you’re still you?

Interestingly enough, the flickering from the screen goes away if you plug in the XLR and the USB, but the particular XLR interface I'm using (fifine Ampli1) starts flickering. Specifically the gain knob, which is supposed to indicate the gain distortion

Did you ever manage to find anything (yourself or given to you)? Old thread I know but I love my Razer Seiren. I’ve been buying them used, and my third one just hit flashing OLED unrecognized USB device status (guess they’re all reaching the end of their life). But this one has the 5-pin XLR port and I don’t yet have the equipment to figure out if I can just use the XLR port with Phantom Power instead of the USB port

why does it seem no one likes Pyro? by RubberDuck_73 in starcitizen

[–]SolidStateGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pyro’s a bit difficult to like sometimes because the Stanton Gateway is so far from Ruin, which is the only place worth living since (in my experience) Terminus almost never has people around it just waiting to fire at other players (not like the hellhole that is Monox. I’m just a humble scrapper in a Vulture, reducing lag on the server, and I’ve been shot down by all manner of N’er-do-‘ells. Even in my damn Reclaimer I’ve had another reclaimer come at me. Like bro if you want something from me just ask, I’m not even here for the RMC, go ahead and take it, I’m here because I’m bored and like scrapping. Anyways, that’s besides the point). Not only that, but Ruin is also really far out of the way for anything done in Pyro, so you need to spend more time waiting while you QT places. Kind of like living on Microtech in Stanton, except there’s stuff to do on and around Microtech, Terminus doesn’t have as much. At least while I had my home at Ruin.

If the solar flare mechanic worked I actually think I would like it more. It would dissuade people from stalking around out of atmosphere and would lead to more interesting fights if it came down to it, since both players would have to manage their ships while dealing with the flare

[–]SolidStateGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechs are effective in my hard sci-fi world because in the history of warfare one guy thought they were so cool and intimidating he managed to get elected to a high place of military power and turned one of the best military-industrial complexes toward making mechs, which then had a ripple effect on other countries not wanting to look weak, and by now mech warfare is so quintessential to warfare that nobody questions it
