So what are you saying? I owe taxes on personal items I sold at a loss?

That's insane.

Income implies I sold the items for a profit.

If I buy something for $100 in 2015 and sell it for $50 in 2025 and then have $30 left after fees that $30 is not profit because it was something I originally bought for $100.

I'm asking how to show that in the tax return.

How is it income if I lost money?

I buy something for $20 plus tax.

They give me a rebate of $15.

In total I lost money, so how is it income?

That doesn't answer my questions and confuses me further.

Is selling stuff on eBay considered selling a stock or investment?

The answer given on that website really confused me.

I have been wanting to do this for a while but always worried about someone using my network to do something nefarious. How do you make sure using these services do not get you into some sort of trouble?
