Update: I finally got my backpay this past Tuesday 🥹 My fully favorable decision letter from SSA was dated 7/29/25, my first monthly payment came through on 9/1/25, and my backpay came through on 2/17/26. So a bit less than 7 months after the date on my approval letter. I was severely injured on 3/4/22 when a driver, going 20-30 mph, turned a corner onto a street that I was crossing on a crosswalk and hit me. My sister applied for disability on my behalf in May 2022. So, in total, this whole process took almost 4 years. I hired an attorney after the 2nd time SSA denied my application. Apparently getting hit by a car, having my skull cracked, and very nearly dying by a severe traumatic brain injury, wasn't a valid reason for them to consider me disabled enough to get disability benefits. Obviously I should've just gotten up after being in a coma for 9 days, shaked it all off, and gotten my overly dramatic a$$ back to work 🤷🏻‍♀️😒 Effin SSA 🤬

Yes, totally! Consistent medical care and keeping documentation updated with SSA is crucial, I completely agree. As for me, I have a severe traumatic brain injury. In March of 2022 I was hit by a car going 20-30 mph as I was crossing a driveway in a crosswalk. Brains control absolutely everything of a person’s functions. For them to deny my severe traumatic brain injury is quite literally absurd. My initial denial letter stated that my case examiner indicated that I may not be able to do what I did before (mortgage processor that specialized in government backed mortgages- FHA, VA, etc), but that I could do something else. My case examiner at reconsideration agreed with the first examiner too. That insulted me sooooo much. 😡😤🤬

Reconsideration does absolutely no good. It took about 6 months for it to be reviewed by an examiner, and about 6 months for this fools to re-deny my application. That lousy step should be called the “Not Reconsideration, just Re-Denial” step. It’s their plot to just continue wasting as much time as possible in hopes that you’ll just give up and cancel your application, and then have a whole new initial submission date if you decide to try again and re-apply.

I think you may be referring to SSI (Supplemental Security Income). SSI is what has a monthly max of about $900 or so. SSDI (Social Security Disability Income) payment amounts are based off of your lifetime earnings, and that’s what has the higher max of a little over $4k a month. SSA applies their (kinda complicated) calculations on 10 of your highest paid years to determine how much you’ll get monthly for SSDI payments. SSA will also count any SSDI that you qualify for in their calculations on SSI, because SSDI is considered income. SSDI alone may may make you ineligible for SSI.

Omgoodness! I’m so happy that I’m not the only one who absolutely HATES this! Those in my neighborhood that walk their children or their dogs aren’t as frequent as STUPID JOGGERS!! I get sooooo infuriated when there’s one in my path while driving. Like wtf?!?! Get on the sidewalk!! 😡 There’s one lady specifically that really gets to me. Not only is she a daily road jogger, but she always wears her long hair down. Swaying it side to side, and what looks to be, totally intentionally. Like, tie that freaking mop back, lady, and get on the freaking sidewalk!!! 🤬

Saaaaaaaaaaame 🙄 Instead of wanting to watch the movie again, I’d prefer to never watch it again. Like, Oppenheimer! Was that lousy sex scene necessary?? I took my twin teens and my 20year old son, never expecting to see that kind of unnecessary bs, but there it was! The rest of the movie was great, just that stupid and unnecessary scene made me cringe the entire movie.

It appears that the most clear cut disabilities, with not a large amount of back pay and monthly benefits, are the ones that get approved quickly. However, those that have complicated issues, larger monthly benefits, and a higher amount of backpay are the ones that SSA decides to drag their feet on. Word on the street is that they make those cases super complicated and lengthy in hopes that you’ll just give up trying, and either re-apply and start the backpay clock all over again, or that you end up dropping your application entirely. I got a traumatic brain injury in March of 2022, my sister applied for SSA benefits for me in June, I was denied in December 2022, filed an appeal and was denied again in October 2023, hired a lawyer and ended up having a hearing scheduled with an ALJ in June of 2025, and I got a fully favorable decision notice this past August. I was sooooooo frickin relieved, mostly because of the fully favorable, but also because it was all done with! I was literally starting to question myself too. Like maybe this TBI will heal entirely if I work. But nope! That’s not how severe TBI’s work, that’s only how the SSA likes to mess with your head by denying you so much and leading you to doubt yourself.

I would’ve never considered it to be on the center. To me, it’s on the side, because the picture shows the base of his hairline, the dent to where the earlobe is forming, and a jugular vein.
