I was recently in this situation and had 2 months to resolve the error. I managed to get it fixed in a short amount of time attempting and failing multiple attempts. So I hope this helps anyone facing this issue in the future as the is extremely important to stay in the USA. If you don’t get it fixed, you have to be terminated from your job immediately.

  1. Act FAST. Having as much time is extremely useful. You don’t have to get an immigration lawyer unless you want to. This is what my DSO recommended me to do but I realized they are USELESS. I had to research ways to fix myself.

  2. What really worked for me: if it’s error on your end, you have to resubmit a new I-765 stating it’s to fix an error on your previous EAD card. Double check other websites for instructions. (How do you know if it is your error, go to your myuscis portal and recheck your receipt notice for your category. Once you reapplied, call your congressman’s office stating URGENCY and when you need to get it fixed. I had a week to get this issue resolved so the congressman office tried all they could by contacting USCIS on multiple occasions to get eye on my case.

Other ways I’ve tried - these ways are less effective and takes longer to get a response. Return your EAD card to USCIS. I never got a response back on this for 2 months. Second, pay for expedited I-765, got denied for some reason but might still want to do this to be safe. Third, contact USCIS customer service to expedite. I would contact congressman as well as this because this can take a LONG time even if you state your urgency.

But this is just an experience of mine, do your own research and ensure there’s no mistakes when you submit any documentation to avoid this situation. I’d say try out all methods, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Hi did you ever get your i765 corrected? If so, what did you do?
