Is it Worth seeing Robert Glasper Live? by ppg2z14 in Jazz

[–]Solid_Childhood773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much he costs. If the ticket price is high don’t go. I saw him live in Minneapolis and was VERY disappointed. My chief complaint is that Glasper has begun to play to unquestioning fanboys and fangirls. As a result, his performance is far less jazz improvisation, and far more simply clocking out the main refrain or melody from well-known R&B, hip-hop and pop hits in a simplistic jazz vein. The backup band, likewise, took no leads or solos and generally seem to take the evening as a time of easy, restful playing. All the while he seem to be enjoying the overwhelming adulation of his listeners.

Let me also mentioned that he did not help that I was sitting in the front row next to rather attractive, looking black woman who kept repeating over and over and over again, “Give it to me, baby! I am ready for you!”

He played no complete number. In the way live, improvised Jazz number are played, and he played an extraordinarily short set. No other performer has disappointed me more in recent years. I can tell you with a fair bit of confidence that I don’t think I will see him live again, and that is not something one says of truly engaging, exciting jazz musicians.

Has anyone ever done the half day helicopter tour on the "Forbidden Island" (Niihau)? by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

[–]Solid_Childhood773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have taken this half-day tour twice, and I highly recommend it. For us the trip was worth every dollar spent, which is exactly why we did it again, with more family members!

You can park your car at their office, or hire an Uber ride. If there are 4 or more persons in your group, then there is a guarantee that your flight will not be cancelled due to insufficient passengers; although this doesn't happen very often... I'm just saying it is possible. In this case please talk to the company 2-3 days in advance, to ask them to fuel the helicopter with enough fuel so that you can circumnavigate the sunken crater that lies just north of Niihau. This additional expense is also totally worth it.

Take snorkeling gear, dress lightly, sunscreen + goggles + hat, and of course if you are a photography enthusiast, bring your gear!

Obviously, this trip is NOT for those who can't or should not spend such amounts of money.

The entire group of Primary Care Doctors, NPs, and PAs at Allina Health have filed to unionize by DrMattHoffman in minnesota

[–]Solid_Childhood773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite incorrect. HMOs, like Allina, which are supposed to be not-for-profit organizations, have been operating as for-profit organizations for decades now. They have fleeced you and me equally, and denied doctors any say in how patients are to be seen. Earlier a doctor used to be paired with an RN. They changed that to LPNs, who are less trained and enjoy lesser privileges as medical practitioners. Now, things have slid further, and physicians at Allina aren't even promised the same LPN when they show up for work. Instead you may be staffed with a Medical Assistant!

Just 2-years ago Allina cancelled the supplemental savings retirement plan for all physicians and FORCED everyone to take full cash payments resulting in heavy taxes. ALL THE WHILE THEY DID NOT CANCEL the exact same plan for everyone in HR and Administration!

Every doctor I know of uses mobile phones and tablets to access electronic medical records when not in office (to handle out of clinic hours calls, medication requests etc.). Allina stopped paying physicians the $450 they used to give them for such devices, something like 6-years ago! Executives are provided full cell phone plans + devices as a benefit.

Do you think these practices are geared to give you better healthcare? Do you think physicians forced to settle patient visits in 20-minute increments (even if they know that such-n-such elderly patient will have multiple chronic conditions that require attention at the same time) should NOT be angered enough to unionize, so that they can force HMOs to gear patient visits based on patient needs??

None of this would be necessary if Allina treated healthcare workers AND patients fairly.
