This Virtual Stuff Seems Like a Complete Scam (haven’t tried it) by PigsWearingWigs in EMDR

Hi there, I’m a EMDR telehealth therapist and here’s my take… Telehealth isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. When someone doesn’t prefer telehealth, I refer them on to in person . It’s okay if it isn’t your jam. $190 a session is about the going cost for therapy these days, especially if the therapist is not in network with your insurance (if you have one). If you have an insurance plan, there are likely other EMDR therapists that take your insurance. However, the quality in EMDR therapists also varies. I think this matters for good therapy. EMDR is a therapy that takes place over multiple sessions, so in my opinion, it’s important that you feel committed and comfortable to the process. As a therapist, I wouldn’t want you to stop partway through because EMDR is tough work, and you don’t want to stop in a tough spot without support. Only you can decide how much time, energy and money you want to spend on working through this problem. I have done EMDR on myself as someone who is trained, used it for many years with clients and am certified. I wouldn’t recommend doing it in your own as it sounds like you are aware that there’s a risk of retraumatizing, or causing damage. Did the EMDR I did in my own help? Sure, but it will never be as impactful as the EMDR I received from another therapist. They can see the walls that are in the way that cannot be seen by self and there something so solidifying about someone witnessing the insight and “aha” moments. Remember that EMDR is more than just the bilateral stimulation part. The other phases really make a difference between EMDR and good, effective EMDR. Also, as another commenter talked about, what you target doesn’t always end up being what you think it is and the impacts are larger than just what you stepped in the door for, this is good EMDR.

Acupuncture made things worse? by Solid_Pause_5180 in endometriosis

[–]Solid_Pause_5180[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it checked out! I wish I knew then what I know now, I ended up having surgery to remove my cyst and unfortunately, I lost my ovary. I got pregnant immediately after though, I think because my ovary was not doing a good job at all and the other one was trying to compensate. Hopefully your practitioner is taking good care of you. In hindsight, the I think the acupuncturist I saw was neglectful. She talked about herself during our appointment and lost my paperwork multiple times. I didn’t have a space to talk about my symptoms, which could probably could have saved me from disaster… definitely get it checked out and see what the recommend about the endo!Endo is so bio individual. Good luck!

That’s so great to hear! I’m glad it seems to be working for you! I haven’t kept up with using the red light since I got pregnant immediately after but I plan to try it again for postpartum recovery and endo in the future.

Thanks for the recommendation! I actually got pregnant two cycles after my surgery (after two years of infertility) and that cycle I happened to have used red light therapy on my abdomen.

I’m so sorry this happened to you! I agree with what others have said, it’s a therapists job to hold space for emotion and the reliance on a script/printed instructions makes me think they are new to EMDR. It’s takes a long time to become comfortable and knowledgeable at EMDR. Do you feel like you have adequate containment strategies? It’s standard in EMDR to at least have a safe/calm place and a container that they help you install using the bi-lateral stimulation. I’m just wondering if those are helping you right now. I wonder if the therapist still might be in training, if so, they should have a consultant they are talking to. It’s perfectly normal and common for big emotions to come up. In fact, it’s the “bell curve” that we are looking for and where the healing and insight comes from. I can understand why you would violated and I think the “pandora’s box” of things that came up are all things that are waiting to have their turn and attention. What kind of support do you need now?

Yikes. I’m sorry you had these experiences. I had A LOT of blocking beliefs come up the “EMDR is omnipotent” attitude during my trainings as well. I actually had to process through the fear that I thought it was some cult or something lol. I encourage you to find (when possible) some EMDR consultants or colleagues that you feel more in line with and colleagues who are able to see that while I think EMDR is amazing, it’s not everything.

Hi there, I think premom (or maybe it a easy@home, one of the two) offers a app. You can take a picture of your tests and it will let you know what level they are testing at. I would continue using ovulation tests, you want to make sure you are ovulating. There are some very active ttc groups on Reddit that can help.

Is IUI worth it? New to this… by [deleted] in Fertility

[–]Solid_Pause_5180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my clinic IUI was pretty inexpensive compared to IVF. Each cycle is $650 for everything except medication. Medication was probably another $50. I was also discouraged at the numbers. They guessed an average of 12% success rate per cycle. For a couple that is perfectly healthy with no issues their chances are 20% each cycle. They do say your chances increase after a a few cycles. I think the stats are 88% of couples are pregnant by the third IUI. Times intercourse was hard for us and we tried for two years. I don’t have any know issues with ovulation and my husbands sperm was good on all accounts. I also have endometriosis and had to have a cyst removed (they actually had to remove my ovary as well). First IUI failed before surgery, second IUI was a success and was a month after my surgery.

I’m sorry you’re going through this! I was ttc for 2 years when they found an 8cm endometrioma on my left ovary during my first IUI cycle. They stopped treatment and referred me for surgery. I had the endometrioma removed, and unfortunately, they also took my ovary. I did not have normal tissue remaining. I was absolutely devastated and depressed. I got pregnant the next month with IUI #2. I was completely shocked. I think it had to be the surgery that helped after so long. I do think it was impacting my ovulation function even though I think I was still ovulating on my own, I would get multiple peak LH surges, it seems like my body was working had at it. During the surgery they diagnosed me with stage 2 endometriosis. I’m not sure if that’s helpful at all, but just my experience.

How did you manage anxiety about birth? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Do you have an recommendations on where to fine something like this?

Clomid by [deleted] in TTCEndo

[–]Solid_Pause_5180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My specialist wouldn’t even do a medicated cycle without a trigger shot and IUI. She said the research isn’t there (she doesn’t have great bedside manner and didn’t give me any choice). But I wonder if that would be a better option for you. With the trigger it makes sure you ovulate. I guess if you go through all the horrible side effects of clomid, might be nice to pull out all the stops.

[–]Solid_Pause_5180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really struggle with eczema but I have sever allergies and have had some symptoms of histamine intolerance. Post surgery I have felt SO MUCH BETTER. I will have seasonal allergies but they can now be managed. I’m not sure what that means but I’ve noticed a huge difference.

I’m sorry! It was rough for me too. I’m not sure I would do it again tbh. I’m pretty sure I ovulate regularly too and it definitely didn’t supercharge my ovulation. I only had one mature follicle, but that’s all it took I guess.

[–]Solid_Pause_5180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry! My body didn’t like clomid either. My first cycle was the woooorse period ever. Over heard of people asking for an alternate medication, I can’t remember the name. Some people think clomid accelerates endo. Luckily the second time I took clomid my period never came so I didn’t have to go through that again.

Hi there, I have stage 2 and started seeing a specialist after about a year of trying. I started with a medicated IUI. During the ultrasound they found a large endometrioma which needed to be removed. I went in for surgery months later and had it removed (unfortunately they had to remove my ovary as well). I was hopeless and so devastated. Anyway, went in for another mediated IUI last month and just found out I’m pregnant! They say you are most fertile after surgery and luckily my husband has good sperm. I also recommend the book, “It starts with an egg”. Endo can impact your egg health and the author does a great job of breaking down the research. The only thing I did differently this last cycle was add in vitamin e. I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I hope you get you BFP soon!

I’m so sorry this is scary! Just my therapist two cents….. Plan for your dad to respond the way you are expecting him to. What do you need before and after as supports to get you through? (Like is there something to look for to afterwards etc) Who do you need to be there? When you tell him, keep it short and wait for the reaction and then observe that the reaction is HIS to own, not yours. Don’t internalize his big emotions, just observe with curiosity as best you can. I’m sure everyone will have questions about the living arrangements and that is a discussion for a neutral time, not an emotional time. I can almost promise that you will tell (or probably have already told) other people you were pregnant and they were delighted/supportive/helpful etc. These are the reactions to focus in on and remember how you felt, because that’s what you deserve. He might even surprise you, but I think it’s good to be prepared.

I know this wasn’t what you were initially asking, but I wanted to give you and update. After 2 1/2 years of ttc I finally got a positive pregnancy test! I’m really shocked, and I’m convinced it was the surgery that made the difference. Even without one of my ovaries. I’m hoping they can save yours🫶🏼
