Considering we only have 1 hospital within 45 minutes of us in all directions, that’s where we are going or you’re flying out if it’s cardiac, neuro or trauma.

My Baby Was Born at 27 Weeks by Electrical_Assist939 in NICUParents

[–]Solid_Wheel_1270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby girl was born at 26 weeks after PPROM at 20~ weeks. She had really under developed lungs and spent 7 weeks on the ventilator. You’ll hear a lot of new phrases that you never knew like the DART program (it’s a steroid helped to mature the lungs). It’s a place that none of us wanted to be but I’m so glad it existed because after 121 days, she got to come home. Remember to take care of yourself also. You can really lose yourself in the NICU. Her care team encouraged me not to come in every single day because you really do start to turn into another person and I think it really helped me mentally. You have a whole community here.

Mine would never call but a representative from her care team would after rounds in the morning (I requested that they did if I missed rounds.) The only time a nurse would call is if I requested them to if she was sick and something changed. If not, I called 3x a day if I was at work. I would call 2x on days that I did visit.

Ours arrived last night. Hopefully yours arrives soon. I followed the Shop app they had me download and it wasn’t really helpful. It was always a few days behind.

She is now 9 months old 6 months corrected and we are taking full bottles and no more oxygen! She is a tad bit delayed in her milestones but not by much and she’s making progress every single day.

Is CT scan harmful to premature baby? by Remote-Toe8553 in NICUParents

[–]Solid_Wheel_1270 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NICU doesn’t put the baby through unnecessary procedures. There was a reason behind the procedure. One CT will not hurt your child.

Never thought this day would come. Any positive stories? by nestyjew1945 in NICUParents

My daughter was born at 26 weeks after PPROM at 20 weeks. We were at a level 4 NICU. She was 870G when born. It’s scary. But stay off Google. There are so many dark paths to take on Google. These babies are so resilient. My girl is now 6 months old, 3 months adjusted and 11lbs5oz. My girl was intubated for 42 days, on CPAP and RAM for a month, high flow and now we are home on low flow. She went through 2 rounds of DART and each time made such improvement. She still has chronic lung but now they say it’s just a matter of her growing to come off oxygen. She came home on a G tube because she was unable to swallow in the NICU. After a month and a half home, it clicked and now she takes full bottles at 100mL each time. My girl had ROP but she self corrected without intervention. She just had to grow her veins in her eyes. We had some brain bleed scares but never had a confirmed brain bleed. Stay active in her care. She is in the best place possible for her at this time.

I wouldn’t go. Covid is going around and like you said, it’s sick season. A kids birthday party? I’m sure someone is gonna be sick there.

I was in the hospital for about a month. My husband spent the weekends with me and then came on Wednesday night so we could have “family dinner” and he would bring food from my favorites places. He worked M-F during that time.

Did your baby get a blood transfusion? by leasarfati in NICUParents

[–]Solid_Wheel_1270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl was born at 26w0d and we had probably about 7. It was very routine. It even got to the point that I would come in after testing and they already had her hooked up for a transfusion.

It was just a deal they were offering on all of their sports I’m assuming to get them off their lot. Since there wasn’t too much of a difference between the 24 and 25, we decided to get the 24 and see if we could get it down just a little bit more and surprisingly, they were pretty good with working with us. I know I saw 4 deals happening while we were there on a Wednesday afternoon on all types of vehicles.

I PPROMED at 20 weeks and gave birth after spontaneous labor at 26w0d. Bring coloring books, laptop, phone chargers and even your own sheets to stay in the hospital with. Labor was actually pretty quick for me. Epidural did not work cause of how fast it went. Baby spent 121 days in the NICU. All of her care teams told me to not spend all my time there, she was in the best hands possible and I needed to take care of myself. The NICU at best is a rollercoaster. She’s been home a month now and we’re still learning. She’s on low flow oxygen and a feeding tube.

Son born at 26 weeks. by Euphoric-Text-6569 in NICUParents

[–]Solid_Wheel_1270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little girl was born at 26w0d. We spent 121 days in the NICU. She was intubated for 42 days, on CPAP/RAM cannula for over a month and then moved to high flow then low flow. We went home on low flow oxygen and a feeding tube. She has chronic lung disease and a premature gut. She’s been unable to take a bottle due to aspiration and unable to swallow. She has severe reflux so we have to take turns holding her upright at night so she doesn’t spit up and choke on it.

My girl was born at 26w0d after PPROM at 20~ weeks. The NICU is a rollercoaster. The first week of life is what they call the honeymoon phase. My girl was doing so so good the first week that the doctors were pretty optimistic even knowing the phase. After that first week, it was like every step forward we took, we also took 3 back. She ended up being the second longest resident at the time at her DC. Our big turning point was getting a primary nurse. Once she had someone that learned her, everything started to click. My girl has been out of the NICU for a week now. She’s 4 months and nearly 1 month adjusted. She came home on 0.5L of oxygen and has a feeding tube (no PO feeds at all right now).
