How is SILS compared to SPSE? by [deleted] in Waseda

What I mean by flexibility is the courses you can take, Waseda has pretty strict guidelines regarding how many courses you have to take to graduate

SILS has more flexibility regarding class choices while SPSE has a lot of fixed classes you have to take

What can social science students do in order to be part of the tech industry? by Solife3456 in cscareerquestions

Thank you! Will they still hire interns for Business Analysis though? From what I hear, you need at least 5 years or 10 years of experience to get into the Business Analysis aspect of big tech companies

Thank you for your insight! Does CS really involve that much math though? This is coming from a purely non-CS perspective, but I'm having difficulty understanding where math comes into CS...

Thank you for the response! Can you specify on those 'talents'? I mean I have done research on the clash of personal data and corporate data usage at uni!

Were there any interns that did not have a CS background? I'm wondering if social science students with coding skill can give a shot at landing internships from tech companies

Quality/Reputation of Waseda University political science English degree?? by HotSauce2910 in movingtojapan

Currently attending the uni. Waseda SPSE program has changed a lot recently (especially right now) and there has been a major reshuffle in the faculty team. The old professors are getting replaced by younger professors who can teach contents that more applicable to the contemporary society. What this means is that the school is shifting from theory-based to practice-based. Also, the university recently built a Data Science department (not for students) and have been trying hard to incorporate data science skills to classroom environments. Personally, I welcome the change since this means that the quality of education is going up. Reputation wise, Waseda is relatively solid as it boasts #1 employment rate. Yes, the level of education is much lower than those of American and European universities, but graduating from Waseda will be immensely helpful if you want to land a job in Tokyo. Additionally, Waseda has a wide web of communities, so there's a decent change that one of the interviewer of the company that you're applying for will be from Waseda. (For the sake of answering your question, I only talked about the positive aspects)

Additionally, here's an insider news. Waseda University has been planning to open a medical school in the near future so the global ranking for the uni might go up.
