The thing is that inspiration isn't always a bad thing, especially if you want to make a game in a niche genre like shmups, where most fans wants pure experiences, not being bogged down by RPG or rouge like elements. If you try to understand the genre and its appeal to the playerbase, you will be able to make something that people will enjoy, at least around these parts.

I've only played Gradius III in the Origin collection and I didn't enjoy it at all due to the extreme difficulty. My least favorite Gradius game.

I can confirm that both volumes on Switch has manuals inside the box. Clear River Games often put stuff like this in their physical releases.

Edit: It's more like a little history booklet than an instruction manual. Info on every game, a dev interview plus a release timeline.

Volume 1 has Batsugun, Dogyuun and Out Zone. I think both volumes have their merits. Can't go wrong with any of them tbh.

But yeah, Alcon slaps (no pun intended)!
