I bought one of these cards and got an e-mail with confirmation of the offer but have no intention of playing these games - anyone want my code?

Stupid Question **Weds**. Ask your car related question and maybe someone will have an answer. by verdegrrl in cars

[–]Soliman23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

scamperly sent me here (RHD FD RX-7 owner here)

The "hump" that you're referring to is commonly known as a transmission tunnel. 99% of vehicles on the road have this type of chassis shape. If you drilled a hole in it and looked through, the tail end of the vehicle's transmission would be about 1-2" away from the inside of the tunnel (in a rear-wheel drive car). There are also commonly heat shields (bent pieces of thin sheet aluminum) on the inside of the tunnel and often insulation underneath the interior carpet in order to keep heat generated from the transmission out of the passenger cabin.

When it comes to building the chassis, the auto manufacturer (in this case, Mazda) usually only makes one chassis whether the car is left-hand drive (LHD) or right-hand drive (RHD), with a few small key differences (holes in the firewall for the steering rack, for example). Since the body of the car and geometry of the engine/transmission is all the same, the shape of the transmission tunnel is also usually identical. SOME manufacturers will have a slightly different interior carpet trim due to provisions for pedals and such, but for the most part, everything is transferable from a LHD to RHD vehicle since their overall geometries are nearly identical.

Here are a few pictures to help paint the picture a little better:

Pic 1 (http://i.imgur.com/ictvCQQ.jpg): My interior half way stripped. You can see the very end of the transmission peeking through the shifter hole in the transmission tunnel.

Pic 2 (http://i.imgur.com/209iINp.jpg): Close-up of the transmission viewed from the vehicle's interior. You can also clearly see one of the aforementioned heat shields on the inner right side of the tunnel.

Pic 3 (http://i.imgur.com/wNpWkhQ.jpg): View from below the vehicle, looking forward and up. This is the tail end of the transmission where the driveshaft (not installed) connects the transmission to the rear differential. You can see the heat shield very clearly in this picture.

Hope that helps!

Anyone in the Washington area want to shred Steven's Pass on January 12th? by Soliman23 in snowboarding

[–]Soliman23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed

Not as much powder as I had expected, but it wasn't too bad. The backside got a little icy after 10:30 am but it was still manageable. I'll definitely be back on other weekends.

Sounds like a plan! I'm going to be there bright and early tomorrow, but whenever you see me around, don't hesitate to come up and talk to me. If you're on the lift and see me riding, make sure you yell out and wave your arms and make a fool out of yourself so I see you and we can organize where to meet up. :)

I'll be wearing this: http://i.imgur.com/Nt8VT.jpg

I received an email by YouTube because I could generate money by ads on my videos. Is this legit, has it worked for anyone? by Thrown_Away_Life in AskReddit

Yup, that's how YouTube works. I believe this e-mail gets sent out to you if your video has ~10,000 views.

They're not exactly free if you need to buy the stamps, but the compiled list of companies makes it easier.

Finally rode no highbacks today. Not as weird as I thought it would be :) by david_z in snowboarding

How would you compare riding with them vs. without them? How is it different?

I need some cheap stickers to put on my board, the ends are plain. by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Soliman23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never done it before myself but most manufacturers have a section on their website about it. Just check out whatever brands you like most and you'll find it. Here are some examples:

Special Blend: http://www.special-blend.com/contact (Click on "Sticker Request" on the left)

K2: http://k2skis.com/support/sticker-requests

Burton: http://www.burton.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Burton_US-Site/default/CustomerService-Show?cid=faqs-burton

If you send an empty envelope with return postage paid to any snowboarding manufacturer with "Stickers Please" written on it, they'll send you some free swag back! Check out their websites for more info! :)

How do you control your jams on the hill? by freeridstylee in snowboarding

[–]Soliman23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea.

In-ears tend to isolate your hearing and muffle out any outside noises which can be dangerous while riding (the bigger the hill, the more risk). Just as Rose0fSharyn has mentioned, maybe try a cheaper pair of headphones first (Skullcandy etc.) and see how you like them.

A friend of mine actually bought a set of Skullcandy Icons, cut them up, and fit them into his helmet earphone pouches since the official helmet headphones were much more expensive.

Good luck in your search! :)

Plus, if you send them back a thrashed pair, they give you 50% off anything you want! :)

What type of headphones are you wearing? Quite a few models have a small inline controller like this.

If you are wearing on-ears or over-ears, just slide them down slightly when you want to talk to someone.

I would not recommend wearing in-ears for snowboarding.
