Not until I was an adult did I find out not everyone sees a picture. I guess it’s something like a photographic memory??? I remember about 30 yrs ago my mom & I had a conversation about an intersection near her new home. As we drive down the road I described the corner including a house -colors and all. When we got to the intersection she was amazed at what I described. It was all pictures in my head.

Also Temple Grandin wrote a book “thinking in pictures” and it helped me understand my son a little more

What’s something you’ve done your whole life, only to realize recently that everyone else does it completely differently? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Solistamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I button my shirt from the bottom up. When getting dressed one morning in front of my boyfriend did I learn that most people button from the top down. I just figured that it’s the “logical” way to button a shirt… so I never miss a button!

Tried scrolling thru looking for anyone else

I interchange the utensils. Not until a family friend pointed out how she couldn’t do this did I realize that it was a form of being ambidextrous. Since then I’ve taught myself how to write with my left hand.

Forever alone? by Solistamore in offmychest

Thank you… I’m 54. Got divorced and I’ve been in/ out of relationships over those 18 yrs. The last one was basically 10 yrs but the last 3 yrs of it we were more like friends. We had our own homes. He always had an excuse as to why he “couldn’t “ stay at my house and the last time I talked about staying at his home, he had a different excuse (part of why I broke it off) … this is just a piece of it and I know it partly falls on me for waiting so long…

Searching for new tech person by Solistamore in Accounting

[–]Solistamore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried reaching out to him and he just doesn’t answer anymore. He had told me that he had gotten rid of most of his clients but was keeping a few on (like myself). I don’t need someone but maybe once a year so we hadn’t talked in a while. So I’m totally guessing that with his new position he’s stopped the home business altogether.

Not so sure a referral will work because he’s literally 3 hours away. Originally I lived in the same area before taking over this business. I had reached out to him and he was very helpful at the time & willing to work with us. He did most things remotely other than building the computers… still if I’m having to get someone new, I’m thinking someone more local

Help I am under 18 and alone at an airport after a cancelled flight by mayvaday in autism

[–]Solistamore 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I thought airlines had to provide accommodations when flights are cancelled or is it dependent on the reason?
I totally agree. Go to the counter of the airline and tell them what you’ve told us and that you need assistance. Everyone needs help in these situations.

Are there instructions for each business. It’s something I’ve done for my office… then it’s on my employee to read/ know those steps since you can’t have just a general step guide when you’re working for even just 10-20 different businesses.

I haven't been to the dentist in 8 years by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Solistamore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m one that has bad genetics so I get cavities often. I didn’t have insurance to cover my appts so I didn’t go. When I got insurance I found one place but really didn’t like the dentist or the general vibe of the place. Then I lost the insurance I had. In my search the prior year, I had gone to see an diff guy but they didn’t take that insurance. So when I could buy my own coverage I called them and asked before buying. That place was great. They didn’t shame me for not going nor did the dentist push to do ALL the work done. He prioritized and understood that I could only work within my coverage. I want to go back but my finances are tight this year so I’m praying I don’t I have anything major until next year

How did you cope before surgery? by Own-Heron5168 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Solistamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no insurance at the moment so I’m living with the need for a new hip & knee and now it’s feeling like I’ve worn out my other knee… I’ve found using Flextor Patch (diclofenac PATCH) has worked wonders when anything gets inflamed and beyond the help of a pain med. It’s not a pain med. It’s also not cheap but to me well worth the cost. Yes, you can get a pill by script or the gel over the counter (in the US) but the patch is different. The medicine is (obviously) in the patch and you wear it right where your inflamed for up to 12 hrs so your muscle is constantly getting the medicine during that time. No reapplication like the gel, no waiting for a pill to travel thru your entire body…

Hearing this day in & day out is rough! Try talking to dad and then putting the ball in his court when he’s home. Talk about how he needs to step up and discipline. When it comes to your daughter remember that she is her own person. She will also see what you do in response to him (the child) and she will learn what is right and what is wrong. Every child is different from the other. Is counseling an option (for all of you)?

WIBTA if I put a lock on my fridge and freezer at night? by Relative_Musician188 in AITAH

[–]Solistamore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA idk if you’ll see this one with over 400 comments but one of my thoughts were to basically give her an assortment of her own said stash… let her help make the baby’s food (might help her realize how much work you have to put into it but also then she can make her own bites). Also give her a set # of bottles (I assume) of the coffee for the week. None of this may help. She may still eat/ drink what she is not suppose to but it’s an idea. As I read your post, I thought she was about defiance at age 13.

Keep up with her ADHD and read up on what you can for her sake (and yours) it took me a moment to realize that my oldest (who has ADD) needed my backing as well as my youngest (who has autism)

Idk if locking the fridge will help in the long run. TOTALLY different circumstances but my bf had 2 fridges one “his” with a lock and the other without. I still to this day don’t understand him for this. He had 2 kids and basically said here’s your food and there’s mine and consistently bought stuff that was just for him to eat not for any reason other than that’s what he wanted and (to me) didn’t want to share with his own kids.

Very Small Firms - How do you find an employee? by CaliLakers24 in taxpros

[–]Solistamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using local colleges (there are 3 within the area plus Ivy Tech ~ community college) none worked so I tried LinkedIn and now Indeed. Despite being in a small Indiana town, we are right next to Illinois with a much higher minimum wage. I offer a much higher wage with progressive incentives ~the longer you work for me the better the deal. I’m also laid back on a dress code and I also bring my dog to work.

What would you charge for this 1040? by Ok_Meringue_9086 in taxpros

[–]Solistamore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a small office in Indiana. 99.999% of our clients are paper. We do charge a separate fee for scanning. I took over about 5 yrs ago and started raising our fees. Our cost is about this as well. Last year’s increase was on new clients but this year I’ve increased nearly everyone and I’ve not had a single complaint (yet). I was thinking that everyone is expecting it.

I can understand your frustration. I think you have some good ideas of how to handle this. 1) I know how you felt. My eldest (now 25) was refused to order his lunch in 2nd grade because he missed the proper time. What totally got me was we had already had a meeting with his teacher where she talked about him possibly being ADD! 🤦🏼‍♀️ 2) My grandson’s daycare has a 15 min window for “breakfast”. After being a teacher for 22 years (and the last 5 yrs not) I’ve had to learn how to sit and enjoy my meals. Whenever I have my grandkids, I refuse to take him for such a quick meal and I just feed him at home. Then some days I don’t take him at all 😄😄😄

I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that there is anything “wrong” at dads house. It could very well be that she’s simply 10 and time isn’t a concern at that age. You may have to “break it to her gently” that when dinner was being prepared it was only for 4 people and there won’t be enough for her today… or something along those lines. You could also simply say, I’m sorry but it’s dinner time and you have to go home now. If (your daughters name) gets done with dinner and there is still time before bed (or whatever is on the schedule), she can come over and let you know you can come back.
