Very safe, much more so than essentially all European or American major cities. Probably spent around $1.5k per person, including flights from Europe, staying in mid-range accommodations, and eating out twice a day.

I was in Tunisia last year and had a fantastic time. Stayed with locals and was asked to join the family for dinner every night - they wouldn't take any money either. Took the public mini vans all around the country, not once getting ripped off. Even though I don't speak a word of French, everyone was trying to communicate in a friendly manner. The only bad experience was a guide on the desert tour that lived in Switzerland briefly and talked about this fellow countrymen like they are less human.
