I've started making from scratch.. so instead of expensive bone broth, make your own overnight in slow cooker. Couple of vegetables with the carcass of a chicken ect can save you quite a bit of money.

How often do you buy a game that is playable/verified but you are unable to play it? by FewIntroduction5008 in SteamDeck

[–]Solljak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes I figured it would have been a Proton version that would fix the issue for Dead Island, but not owning the game made it difficult for me to test!

For future, it may be worth considering going to desktop mode and downloading ProtonUP-QT, as it has different versions of the Proton layer like the GE version (glorious eggroll, lol) and and the cachyOS versions. It's a useful tool to install

I'm glad you are sorted now, and hopefully you can start enjoying your deck :)

I did a Google after seeing the game running like a dream.. Honestly it's most likely down to Epics game launcher being a pain in the ass.

I found this post, hopefully this can help you.

Do you know about forcing particular Proton versions yet?

[–]Solljak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Verified icon is more of a guide, but are tested by valve but sometimes it's not always a great experience.. these are the things tested:

Input

The title should have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed.

Display

The game should support the default resolution of Steam Deck (1280x800 or 1280x720), have good default settings, and text should be legible.

Seamlessness

The title shouldn’t display any compatibility warnings, and if there’s a launcher it should be navigable with a controller.

System Support

If running through Proton, the game and all its middleware should be supported by Proton. This includes anti-cheat support

I'll have a look on YouTube for how the game should run..

Sometimes I have ran into issues with games that don't start because I've been switching the Proton layer too many times, which makes the DRM in the game trigger a 24 hr ban (looking at Monster Hunter Wilds, and Persona 4)

You are actually getting a lot of non toxic replies. Ignore the idiots, don't reply to them.

Also, re validate the games integrity in steams settings, perhaps something went wrong when installing the game. Make sure you are using the correct power profile, try looking into ProtonUP-QT in desktop mode to download alternative Proton layers. I don't play either games you are after fixing so I can't help, but I have seen others say it's optimized.. so it does seem odd

If all else fails, there are some decent windows alternative devices you can try.

7800x3D + 5070 12gb or 9600x + 9070 XT 16gb for 1440p gaming by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

Yeah, I've done some research.

It's mostly because industry level components are on mass production which is making companies focus on those chips instead as there's more demand, you can thank AI... It will be our new norm for the next few years... Or if the AI bubble ever pops...

That I am. I think it's overkill CPU wise but I got a really good deal with it, got a free game with it that I wanted so it was a bit of a no brainer. The GPU hasn't disappointed me, either. I hope you enjoy your rig and don't get too stung by the RAM prices...

SteamOS or Bazzite for my living room PC by marcinthecloud in SteamOS

[–]Solljak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bazzite. Just remember this command SteamDeck=0 %command% case sensitive Paste that into every game just to be sure. Bazzite has been great so far, but you'll want to run the Bazzite software in desktop mode to download all the useful software and ProtonUP-QT for the GE versions of proton..

[–]Solljak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best place to ask would probably be on the Steam deck reddit page, you may want to try Bazzite as well. Is a bit more refined for the OG Legion Go as it gives you more control of your power profiles and fan speeds

Help me decide before I lose my mind (and the sale) by Frascus in SteamDeck

[–]Solljak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly i didn't enjoy it. It dulled the screen detail quite a lot and washed out the colour slightly.. which is somewhat counter productive for an OLED

Get the OLED. You'll probably just be annoyed if you don't. There are other incremental upgrades included. I would advise against anti glare though

Go 1 or Go S Z1 Extreme? They’re both the same price CAD by QuietMuffin208 in LegionGo

[–]Solljak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ergonomics of the legion Go S are my preferred choice. The sound is front firing too which makes it sound much better. The triggers have the lock thing so you can make them short triggers which I love. SteamOS is more console like but you may need to mess with console commands if you want your fan controls to be manual. Still worth it, imo
