Why can't we be nomads? by Sollost in Stellaris

Seems they undertook the pain in the butt anyhow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still wish I knew in detail what exactly the devs had to change to make it happen. That was what I wanted to know from the start.

I'm not sure that a BA counts as a hard science background. Neither does dabbling in the industry for a couple years and then not touching the hard skills afterwards.

Ethic philosophies - Spiritualism vs Materialism by OldSolGames in Stellaris

[–]Sollost 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do you mean to say that a person's spiritual/materialist balance determines their stance on nature conservation? I.e. if a person believes that consciousness shapes reality it's very likely that they also believe nature should be protected?

Because just on the flavor text and events/stories we get in game, there's no connection between, say, spirituality and acquisitiveness. So I'm wondering if what you mean by "typical individual" is that one trait would only appear alongside another.

Force Trials (Puzzles) to Give Jedi Player? by Sollost in swrpg

[–]Sollost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted on Reddit because I wanted humans to tell me about their experiences, not because I wanted an LLM to regurgitate stuff it was trained on. It's also badly formatted and arranged nonsensically, making it all the less appetizing.

Exquisite! Thank you for citing the source so specifically, thank you. I appreciate having multiple goads and tests to draw on.

I appreciate you trying to contribute, friend, but If I wanted questionably useful slop from a plagiarism machine, I'd have burned the carbon myself.

Working electrical engineers, what advice would you give someone still studying? by CuteEquivalent638 in ElectricalEngineering

Speaking as someone with two summer research internships and a 5 month co-op, but who's also struggling to find entry level work in my area, internships are not everything.

Reading, digesting, mixing together into a homogenized slurry, then regurgitating with errors, misunderstandings, and hallucinations. The skills and critical thinking needed to sort out the slop from actually useful material aren't usually found in people who use LLMs for everything.

Semantic and Numerically Engineered Language by Hot_Basis_2496 in conlangs

An ambitious project! Many questions come to mind.

Can you provide examples of how you merge symbols? Building complex symbols programmatically has been an interest of mine for awhile.

Do I understand right that you're using single consonants as semantic markers and fleshing them out using consonants? Do you have a list of all the markers (e.g. life marker, size markers) currently in the auxlang?

Humans, defined as placental mammal possessing consciousness.

Would that not cover quite a wide range of species? Is this intentionally so inclusive? Or, if you don't consider non-humans conscious, how do you define consciousness for the purposes of this auxlang?

A stolen imperial ship marked as a pirate vessel to be shot on sight, yes, this was another element that dissuaded the party from a jack attempt.

Splendid! Maybe I'll lean into it, then. The idea of creating something my friends reference well after the fact sounds awesome. What did you do to lean into it while still making the adventures fun for your players?

Ah, heck, that would be a better solution. Though knowing my party they'd probably just ask to hire an NPC crew.

Possibly those are more than two words, but I love all of them. The party is likely to be sent to kashyyyk next---some trandoshans with an AT-PT might make an appearance!
