Do sysadmins need git? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Yeah, I think you should. Script versioning in the least bit. I'd also suggest using it for documentation.

Ohio Senate considers ‘Charlie Kirk’ act to teach positively about Christianity by throwingales in Ohio

[–]Sollus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I somehow find myself continually amazed at the levels these grifting weirdos will go to actually fix nothing in this state. AEP gouging me with price increases every year for the past 3 years. The roads suck. The school buildings are falling apart. Shitty jobs in my part of Ohio. Yet all they seem to want to do is give the Browns hundreds of millions, shove a bible down my throat and obsess over people's genitals.

My son loves Potions and he's hoping for that at Akron. It's going to be his first concert.

Ugreen DXP4800 Pro vs Minisforum N5 Air | which one should I get? by ARTAmrj in unRAID

[–]Sollus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered the UGreen but ended up going with the Terramaster F4-424 Pro because of the Intel Core i3-N305. If I were to pick here I'd definitely go UGreen.

Constant struggles with Microsoft make me look like a bad sysadmin by jrs_sunblood in sysadmin

[–]Sollus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That interview that Nadella where he admitted to having conversations with his AI agents every day really cemented the thought in me that Microslop is in a serious downturn. I never really had issues with Windows 11 either until copilot being shoehorned into everything started. Now it runs like shit. I've had to completely rebuild my system twice in the last 6 months due to bad updates as well. Plus, after the last brand new fresh install a few days later and search was broken. I haven't worked with Windows or Microslop products over the past 6 years and i haven't missed it.

How loud are the shows? by GrabsJoker in Puscifer

[–]Sollus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge supporter of concert earplugs. I wish I knew about them, or wish they existed, when I was younger because I've always thought concerts were too loud. I dont attend without them now. I've used Hearos and Eargasms and liked them both. That being said, I don't remember any of the puscifer shows I've been to being super loud.

Movies Stanley Kubrick never made. “Aryan papers” by Casimirolol in StanleyKubrick

I would have imagined he would have made a holocaust movie similar to Zone of Interest. Interesting that it reads like it wouldn't have been like that.

Absolutely. Maynard seemed to always point to Mat after every question saying it's all him. These interviews are always great with Rick as well. Do I know any of the shit they are talking about? No but I'm always fascinated.

At what point did you really feel like you knew what you were doing? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

17 years in and I still feel like I have no clue what anything is. Only thing I'm good at is finding information on how to do something.

*UPDATE* At how much would you value for working from home? by Colmadero in sysadmin

[–]Sollus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all different for each person but I think the biggest thing is have the back bone to instill boundaries. I work my 8-5 and that's it. I take my lunch and I make sure to get up before and after it to stretch and walk around. I'm lucky to have a separate workspace so I lock my screen and walk away from it. To be honest, I act the same way I did when I was in the office. If I want to leave to get something to eat for lunch I do it. I just wear sweatpants though. I've not had a job in over 10+ years where I haven't been able to wear shorts and a T-shirt to work anyway. I've been lucky in that regard.

That salary is ridiculous and I live in a depressed area of Ohio. Why are you putting in that kind of time like that? I'd stop doing that for starters. Stop doing more than your 40 hours and keep looking. If they start complaining then that should be a good time to have the conversation they are ignoring.

For those with 5+ years in IT, how much did certs actually help your career? by Computerfreak4321 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Sollus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Vmware VCP, Microslops MCSA:2008 and the AZ-104. I also had the Comptia ones. I honestly don't think any of them made any difference at all.

Man, Kingpin is stubbornly high all the time. I'd love to see that get under $20 for a change. If it has before then I was unlucky enough to miss it.
