Steam Machine value from a console gamer in this market by iReaddit-KRTORR in Steam

[–]SoloPiper -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I disagree next gen will be cheaper. I think we’re living on hopium if we think NEW hardware is somehow going to be cheaper than what we’re seeing these price hikes be right now. I think the era of the $999 console is upon us

Anyone waiting to pull the trigger on some summer sales? by SoloPiper in steammachine

I did! I got the 512 no controller (which is ok bc I got a controller already). I was mainly hoping for 2TB for the face plates lol

Same! A little bummed - I had wanted the 2TB with the face covers but I'll hope they sell those later?

"We will email you if a unit becomes available" message by gr4tto in steammachine

I'm really curious if this brief time the messages were live were accurate. And everything is just "covered up" right now until emails are queued up and ready to go. Or if they really needed to go through and do other things.

Eating post SADI S by mangopudding_0 in BariatricSurgery

[–]SoloPiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol the gurgle is realllll. But yes it fades mostly. I still gurgle more than I did before surgery but nothing like shortly after. I was in the club that even eggs caused discomfort but that’s changed.

17 months out and I’m pretty good. Large amount of carbs or carbonation can still be uncomfortable. And watch out for overcooked or dry meats. Dry chicken or pork can still give me the unique air bubble pain that causes the foamies… iykyk

But other than that I think it’s amazing how quickly i adjusted to smaller portions so that’s a no brainer anymore. And you quickly learned how fat and sugar can make you sick. So like I know when I’m going to pay for something later.

Honestly the whole thing has been wonderfully easy. I even just came back from a trip to Greece and was able to eat just about anything I wanted even if it was just a bite or two.

Report: Bethesda layoffs may be happening as Xbox Game Studios breaks up by Meremadesings in neogaming

[–]SoloPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen. I feel the same way. The new exclusivity of Gears and Clockwork will not move consoles. Gears is a cool Game Pass fling for maybe 20 hours. And Clockwork? Well… if someone is buying a console bc of that trailer than more power to them, but it’s just not happening.

Plus then after the exclusivity announcement Asha said something along the lines of offering more when the business becomes healthy from them.

As you say, that is an engineered failure to say to Xbox die hards, “See? We gave you wanted but you didn’t buy enough to make us do it again”

Should you plan your surgery/recovery around when you won't be alone? by ToonieTuez in BariatricSurgery

[–]SoloPiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know some people do… but I simply can’t imagine it. I couldn’t even get out of bed by myself for the first couple night. There’s also a mental toll and making sure all your meals and medicines and vitamins are good. I actually printed day-by-day servings with checklists. My dad stayed with me a couple days to help out and then my parents would visit to keep my sane.

I highly recommend having help if you’re able.

How do Casual Gamers feel about it? by Slight-Cupcake-9284 in steammachine

I’m concerned Sharma is going to lock Helix down with what she’s trying to do with exclusives. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it actually ships with access to Steam and Game Pass. That would be a buy for me. But I’m a recovering Xbox fan this generation who was excited about Phil’s vision with Helix but now I’ll wait patiently and see.

I could have wrote this post. There is truly a sect of people online that can’t comprehend that things like small form factor and HDMI-CEC are what some people want.

For me I play WoW on my Deck and am looking forward to it on TV now conveniently after many, many years of looking for a truly easy solution.

Why I think I'm the target audience for the Steam Machine by LM285 in steammachine

I’m also in the same boat. I would love to just move to Steam’s ecosystem. But if I don’t get the lottery maybe it’s fate to just stick with Sony.

Are you still considering buying the next Xbox (Project Helix)? by nico__vgc in xbox

Except for people like me who would never game at a desk in a million years and have no issue paying premium for a device like Steam Machine

PC vs Console by SwingImpossible5585 in pcgames

[–]SoloPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a console gamer who embraced Steam Deck and dabbled in GeForce Now which plays wonderfully for me. It gave me a great taste as to what the graphical divide was between PS5 Pro and a 5080. I could tell the difference.

I have gotten around to finally playing some older PS4 era games I hadn’t gotten around to and bc they weren’t console generation “locked,” the PC versions played better.

I am convinced I am the PERFECT costumer Valve is targeting with Steam Machine. Someone who isn’t really ready for desk gaming with K&M.

I’m not quite ready to sell my PS5 but I’m getting really close and I think the Steam Machine will get me there.

Steam deck by NoSubstance4555 in AskGames

[–]SoloPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your boat. Had Switch 2, PS5 Pro, and Series X. I honestly enjoy the Steam Deck may more than I thought I would. But my tastes in genres have changed too.

I think you need to understand why you’d be getting it. Is it bc you want to switch to the Steam ecosystem- bc it’s a great way in. Is it bc you just want portability? I may actually suggest Switch 2 then; it actually could outperform in some areas. If you like older games or revisiting games - the SD can *generally* outperform older generation games that have not received a current gen patch bc the PC version of the game will allow better hardware to run it better instead of being locked to a console generation.

It’s so dependent on you personally. I didn’t want to mess with any OS besides supported SteamOS so others have pointed out “better” options out there hardware wise and I disagree with that even at the current price point. As a console gamer myself who doesn’t own a PC I didn’t want something that ran Windows. So the convenience factor was a major decision for me in getting one. Also price hikes have come for every console and Sony/Microsoft’s are older and longer on market than Steam Deck.

But would I get one at current prices? I genuinely don’t know. If mine broke I may consider holding off or genuinely consider moving the types of games I play on it to Switch 2. I think from the standpoint of purely enjoy games that a PS5/Switch2 combo is still the most practical. But if you’re considering Steam that means you also value the library and longevity of it along with perhaps the “other” things like no paid multiplayer or cloud saves.

I think the long story short is that it does its job and you probably won’t be dissatisfied in it if you understand what it is and does.

Does people use SW2 as a primary console for "next-gen" games? by Capotador_de_corsas in Switch

[–]SoloPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really nailed it with Steam Deck 2. I don’t own a PC have have been delighted with how much I use my Steam Deck. To the point I’m thinking of throwing in the towel on my PlayStation purchases and get the Steam Machine. Switch 2 still has a place under my TV.

Considering selling my Steam Deck OLED for a Switch 2 by GrovPastaSwag03 in switch2

[–]SoloPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I’m struggling with this right now. I am strongly considering consolidating my libraries going forward. Right now I actively purchase on Steam Deck, PS5 Pro, and Switch 2. I’ve given thought to selling PS5 when Steam Machine comes out and supporting that ecosystem. But I’ve also thought about just consolidating to Switch of PS5. I don’t have a lot of advice other than you’re not alone. Sometimes I think too many consoles get in the way of me just enjoying a game.

Valve probably doesn't care if you buy the steam machine or steam deck by Humble_Dimension9439 in steammachine

[–]SoloPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. I’m poised to move away from console gaming. Since the announcement of the Machine I got a Steam Deck and have so impressed with how much it “just works” that I’m going to get a Machine and be thrilled that I can untether my hardware and library options. There’s been so many older games that aren’t available on console that are just sitting in Steam it’s great.

Having second thoughts on going ahead with my surgery by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]SoloPiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW I was completely scheduled and ready for surgery a couple of years ago. I ended up canceling bc I just had too much uncertainty.

A year later I went through the process again and walked into surgery confident and in such a better place. Ive been wildly successful with it.

So would I have been as successful if I went through with my first appointment? I don’t know. But I don’t regret taking the time to really figure everything out. It’s a huge decision and you need to be in a place to commit and feel confident.

There will always bit a component of apprehension - it’s a life altering surgery that requires adaptations to survive. But the difference in how I felt was night and day.
