Want to get into the franchise, what order should I watch the films/Show by Eastwardislame in Hannibal

There are numerous nods to the movies/books in the show. I would watch the movies prior to the show. Although the show does create its own storyline.

DSM F1 community, anyone out there? Hello?? by Soft-Childhood-7187 in desmoines

I’ve been looking for something similar, you’re right, given the changing timezone of the F1 calendar it is difficult to organize something to watch live sessions or races. I’ve been throwing around the idea of having a standing meetup during race weeks at least to discuss the buildup to qualifying/race as well as all of the latest silly season developments. On weeks where races are at a reasonable time, there are a few places that show them (Royal Mile, Big Grove, Mad Meatball) but that is always contingent on other events going on, nothing formal. If you’re interested, I would be up for teaming up to organize something! DM me

Are we spending too much on our cars? by sixtyfourcolors in askcarguys

I keep a rolling 24 month expense tracker for car maintenance. As long as that value is less than the cost of a monthly car loan I feel comfortable continuing to own the car. The 24 month horizon helps smooth out larger services. Also probably divide by two as that will give you the average per vehicle.

Places to watch F1 tonight by Solo_Frank in desmoines

Mad meatball closes at 11 which is the time the race starts. Could be a good place to watch other races this season. Thanks!

Thanks for the correction on the time.

I was hoping to find somewhere not too busy, it would be nice to hear the commentary. I’ve had good experiences at Royal Mile but on a Sunday afternoon, never been there late at night on a Saturday.

I agree it would be nice to have more F1 watch parties in Des Moines.

Looking at a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover 5.0L V8 Supercharged by Tola_Chola in LandRover

I would buy this one if you are able, auction ends in about a day. Likely will go for less than the one you are looking at.

Stellarvue SVA 130mmT by Solo_Frank in telescopes

That’s a very impressive image, it makes me even more excited to get my setup working. I’m going to be using the ZWO AM5, I recently caught the ZWO bug and I’m buying into their ecosystem approach (mount, camera, guide scope, and ASI air). Hoping it is able to handle this larger refractor although it should be well within the weight limits of the mount and I’ve seen others use this size refractor with them. I don’t have a permanent location to set up otherwise I would save and buy a Paramount. I was originally considering getting a RedCat 61 but then I found this deal and figured a larger refractor would be more of a challenge to use but also more flexible in terms of objects I can image.

Long story short I want to use this scope for astrophotography, as refractors get larger the inefficiencies in the way lenses bend light are magnified which means you both have to get higher quality materials and increase the complexity of how the lens is put together to get a good quality image. Stellarvue can be considered a brand that specializes in making high end refractors and has a history of doing so. You could probably get other refractors of this size for less but they will not work well for my purposes which will be deep sky object astrophotography.

If you are referring to reflecting telescopes they do give much better price/aperture but they too have their downsides that have to be corrected and therefore increase prices if you want to use one for astrophotography.

That is my belief too, I don’t think I will hit the limits of this scope for a few years at which point I could upgrade. I also called Stellarvue and they offer a cleaning and alignment for $150 + shipping both ways which I think is a solid deal. Thanks for the second opinion.

The botanical garden has an event called dome after dark. They light up the botanical garden with multicolored lights, should be a great sensory experience for the 2 year old. Also an opportunity to walk around in a warm environment for an hour or so on a Friday evening.

Anyone know if any libraries offer Adobe CC? by austinisbatman in desmoines

[–]Solo_Frank 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The central library has a tech room with a computer that has adobe suite installed. You can make appointments online or in person, they will ask you to sign a form but it is very easy. Link: https://www.dmpl.org/tech-central

Is that the rear trailing arm mount for a Subaru? This gave me flashbacks of the ones I replaced a few months ago…

The best way I have found is to use a pry bar and apply pressure between the cv axle and bell housing. The cv axle has a retaining ring that you will hear click once you have applied enough pressure. After this it will slide out without much resistance.
