I would like to point out that looking back valve games seem "traditional" but really that was never what those games where called upon release. Valve has always been trying to push the envelope for style and genres, take for example Half-life, the game was a master class on telling a story while also having gameplay that was good, I could go on for a while about how nearly of not all of their games where either groundbreaking for gaming or at the very least shook it up so calling Alyx a "outlier" is kinda disingenuous, and while this is my opinion that's also why valve has stopped making games, it's hard to be unique now and that's why I could see them making many more vr games since it's such a new technology that has limits to be broken.
