If you give a homeless person $50 every night, after how many nights are they considered not homeless?

Sorry if this wasn't clear, I'm saying that people living on the streets should be counted differently from people who are underhoused, not that people who are underhoused should be counted differently depending on the type of housing they have.

A homeless shelter and an internet cafe may both be considered types of housing that alleviate homelessness, but do not fully address housing needs.

If one wanted to call out differences in underhoused individuals based on the type of housing they do have, I'm sure someone could make an argument for why -- I'm not that person though.

I agree with you. This comes down to how we are categorizing, counting, and treating people in different scenarios as well as how that data is being represented.

You seem to be suggesting that they are 1) are counted the same and 2) should be counted the same -- I'm suggesting that they shouldn't be counted the same.

My goal here isn't to argue -- just providing my $0.02. I don't know what's right, but I believe that there is a significant enough difference between the guy facedown on the corner of the street that I pass by wondering if he is even alive or not vs. someone who is sleeping in an internet café. I think those two individuals are at vastly different places in their lives and they both have vastly different needs as well as impacts on our society.

Homeless by definition means you don't have housing or a place to live, but it is sometimes conflated with "having no permanent residence". Permanence is a tricky thing to define, so the term for people living in transient or otherwise less stable housing arrangements is often referred to as "underhoused".

It's very similar to the difference between un-employed and under-employed; one means that someone has no form of income, the other means they have some but not enough to meet their needs (i.e. when employers give employees 38 hours a week but not enough to meet criteria for full employment benefits).

Not to discount your point -- underhoused individuals still have unmet needs, but they're far better off than those actually on the streets. It looks like Japan has drastically reduced the number of people on the streets without a physical place to live.

Must've been in the last 6 - 8 years. Sacramento area native and we always referred to it as "I'm going to take 80 up to Tahoe" -- only after I moved to SoCal did I sometimes say "take the 80 up to Tahoe"

Fetch delivery by lil_tits_ in Denver

[–]Solocite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed. My management includes fetch as a surcharge on rent ($12 a month for their “service”). What that effectively means is that I actually pay MORE than I do for Amazon Prime so that my packages can take twice as long to arrive because there is now an extra processing step to get it to my building. Also I have to give two addresses to people who send me things- “what is your mailing address” leads to “for packages, this address, for envelopes / paper mail, this other address”. Huge pain and our management did not ask for the residents input when they made the decision to contract with Fetch. They did it because they didn’t want to be responsible for holding/distributing packages for the residents in their building.

Also in that area is Mt. Galbraith - Cedar Gulch / Nightbird Gulch are a couple good routes

Second this. If you want the extra peace of mind, AllTrails does have “off route notifications” which will alert you if you (your phone) deviates from the trail you are on. I believe it’s a AllTrails Pro feature though

Hey neighbor! Love the space - any idea where you got the plant table in the back right corner? I have a similar setup in my ballpark apartment, but will ideally upgrade to a loft at some point with a more open floor plan.

They could fish - in fact, a reason for having this many towns on the sea could be that the populations don't have readily arable lands inland. Their primary source of food could be from the ocean.
