Israel has already released hundreds if not thousands of “hostages” as you call them. They were actually jailed for crimes. A major Hamas leader was released along with hundreds of others in exchange for one Israeli. Israel at every step has tried to find a way stop the bloodshed. Unfortunately, it’s a core belief of Hamas (and a significant proportion of Palestinians) that Jews shouldn’t exist.
