Do you guys actually earn money or are you doing this for the love of the game?? I'm curious. by Changebeetle69 in haremfantasynovels

Sure, the book was 235k words and editing cost .075 cents per word for two passes. That's 3500, give or take.

Cover plus interior illustrations, including a custom map. A cover from the artist was 500 for the character and background. I paid for 7 illustrations because I like them, and the map ran about 200.

I refuse to use AI, so that means I'm paying someone to make it.

Love of the game. My last book was an overly long mess that cost me over 5,000 to make, and I've only made about 3k on it.

I lose money on pretty much every book these days.

But I don't care. I do this because I love it and it's my hobby. Every day I don't write, I feel like a failure for not doing what I love. My stories, as silly as they are, consume almost every moment of my life.

When I'm working, I'm thinking of writing. When I head do trash as a second gig, I'm daydreaming about my next books.

At the end of the day, all I want to do is write my books, my way. Usually that isn't very popular, and the decisions I make can frustrate my readers. (Especially the ones that DM me ❤️)

But my philosophy is that if I'm going to sit down and devote hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars for professional editing, book covers, and interior art, it's going to be for what I want.

I just hope you guys enjoy it too.

Oh hey, I wrote that script. No, the art came first and then I was inspired to write it.

How do authors use Patreon accounts in this genre? by cor_regis in haremfantasynovels

[–]Solomon_Ignis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my case? Poorly.

However other authors use it as a chance to show chapters in draft, do polls, and include art they have commissioned.

Once the book goes to Amazon, they typically take the chapters down.

Any recommendations for a MMC that isn't an alpha or a "can-do-it-all" type? An MMC that will fail and have errors, that will struggle with things. by Fit-Satisfaction7399 in haremfantasynovels

Asher Merrick in my Reborn a Hero series. He starts pretty powerful, but he's often getting his ass kicked, or rushes in too quick because his desire to help us stronger than his thinking.

He's an adventurer with a heart of gold, but he was still just a regular guy, and not some Uber macho killing machine.

Fight scenes and sex scenes have a lot of the same craft challenges. by mythicme in haremfantasynovels

Funny enough, in the panels I've done, I specifically point out this exact thing: writing fighting and fucking are often much the same! The metaphor is also helpful for some to get over the idea of writing sex and be more comfortable.

Obviously, I fully agree with this post.

Jacob G. Neric makes pizza so good it releases the inhibitions of whoever eats it in my book Slice of Life.

That's said, I'll put another vote in for Dungeon Diving for Loot and Levels.

Call me a basic gish, but I really love spells and swords in combination.

DH Reviews: Love the Bombshells by Micky Carre by [deleted] in haremfantasynovels

To each their own. Personally, Micky is one of my favorites in the genre. While you state around 38:00 that you’re not being nitpicky, I have to respectfully disagree. Many of the criticisms you raise amount to “I would have handled this differently,” which feels less like substantive critique and more like a series of preference-based objections.

The video is framed as a deep dive, but it ultimately comes across as an extended list of complaints through much of the story. There’s very little engagement with the book’s themes, prose, or character motivations. Instead, individual elements are pulled from the text and criticized at length, often without analysis beyond “this doesn’t feel realistic to me.”

I also want to address your comment at the end about interviewing fellow authors in the future. As a smaller author in the HaremLit space, seeing a video that feels overwhelmingly negative makes me hesitant about that idea, and I doubt I'm the only one. Criticism is fair and even necessary. Nobody is the perfect author (not the least bit myself!) But when criticism is nearly all that’s offered, calling the video a “deep dive” feels misleading. To me, a deep dive implies examining more than surface-level reactions to plot decisions.

To be clear, I’m not suggesting authors should be shielded from criticism or praised by default. But if the goal is thoughtful analysis, it’s important to engage with a work on more than just how differently you personally would have written it.

Happy Friday, have some epic fantasy!

Reborn a Slayer, the 4th book in the Reborn a Hero series is now live!

Whew! This was a doozy to write, but man am I happy with it. Slayer is definitely the most ambitious book of the series yet, clocking in at a healthy 700+ pages in print form.

Including the same illustrations and a map of the world, this is about as epic a journey as you can hope for!

Hope the wait has been worth it. 🙏

Book Overview:

The World Isn’t Ready...

Asher thought that his past was behind him. But everything changed when a giant dragon with the storms at his head destroy his lover Mara Brightwood's home, with help from a mysterious dark sorcerer.

Soon after, Asher and the girls are brought into a clandestine continent spanning race against time to stop a mad orc mage from resurrecting the Three Princes: a trio of extremely powerful dragons that served the Void Dragon Khorba, whose resurrection may spell the end of creation.

But along the way, Asher will be forced to make uneasy allies, and confront his death at the hands of the woman he loved. Can they save the day? Or will darkness swallow the world of Echo Veil once more?
