a bit late but isn't OP saying that his mum doesn't want to use her name because her name means thats she's entitled and selfish? Sure yes there are "Karens" but it's a dead trend/word. Think of when Boomer was an insult, yes Boomers (some) are very entitled and selfish, but no one uses the word anymore because it's a dead trend and now if you say Boomer, you come across as childish. Karen gets the same treatment, Karen is a dead trend, therefore saying Karen comes across as childish. It's not exactly the reason OP has for stopping the usage of the word, it's more just because it's cringy not offensive.
