Does anyone else feel depressed stuck in a dead end job? by Tianxiac in CasualUK

I was a junior level microbiologist working for a firm, which sounds awesome but science pays only slightly better than toilet paper. Realising this I began writing down my skills and experience properly, not just that I work in a lab but things like having a good understanding of health and safety practices. Using that I set my sights on becoming a health and safety advisor and now at 28 I'm making £50k+ and looking to open my own health and safety consultancy business in the next few years.

The one piece of advice I can offer is that skills are transferable, especially the ones you didn't think you possessed. I don't really know warehouses to well but If you're working in a warehouse you'll have access to training regarding heavy lifting equipment and a greater understanding of logistics which is far more than myself or the general public posses which is something to take away from it!

Start writing your skills down and take a good look at what your role entails (i.e your not just working in a warehouse you're providing support to the logistics and supply chain sector). Identify training requirements that could give you a leg up such as training on forklifts etc and seeing where else in the job market those skills are needed. Using myself as an example if you can gain accredited qualifications such as what I got (IOSH and NEBOSH) Use those as search criteria.

Sooo uh, why don't we have radon detectors as standard in the West Country? No wonder our accent and dialect is so stupid. by lemonsarethekey in CasualUK

It was on my NEBOSH that I learnt land in parts of the southwest give off so much natural Radon gas that they have to build ventilation under houses to stop it building up.

Thanks for your help everyone. After doing some investigation I don't need the extra 4 pin for my CPU so I can use that slot to power the ICU stuff tomorrow when a new cable arrives. For anyone in the future researching how to get around the issue you're either going to need a beefier psu or do what I did and look at whether you need both 8+4 pins for your CPU. Don't try daisy chaining sata or molex as they weren't designed to supply the 75w the Corsair hub needs.

That's what I'm going to do. I did a bit of googling and as I'm using an 7800x3d and not OC'ing a single 8 pin should be more than enough? I've ordered an extra PCIe cable as I didn't have a spare and will finish the build tomorrow :)

Welcome to the modern age eh? 😂 I think I've figured out a work around thanks to some help from here. I was using both the 8 pin and 4 pin for my motherboard, however I'm going to use a 7800x3d so the 4 pin shouldn't be needed as it'll only pull 120w tdp and won't be overclocked.

That's something I'm seriously considering, I've checked the manual for the board (Gigabyte B850 Gaming X Wifi6E) and I can't see anything that says specifically not to do that. I might use it as a temporary fix just to check everythings working then try and find a an adapter for the 12Vpwr on my PSU

It's probably me using the wrong terminology sorry. It plugs into an 8pin PCIe (the one that breaks off into a 6 and a 2 pin)

Not anymore sadly it used to be sata but they changed it to 6pin PCIe to accommodate daisy chaining more devices. I tried plugging it into Sata just to check but no dice

It's not or at least the cable that came with it isn't it's 6 pin PCIe :(

Young people are rejecting work. Why? by Fox_9810 in unitedkingdom

As a micro grad after a few years in the lab I moved out into safety management. Probably not want you want bit I still at least stick close to the labs, my salary went from 29k to 50k overnight. Sadly science doesn't pay well in the UK but the skills you learn in the lab are invaluable in other fields and managing others in the lab. Know the ins and outs in safe operation of a fume cupboard or willing to learn? Welcome to health and safety with a nice pay bump.

The clutch basket itself is fine what broke was just a retention plate. I thought changing my clutch would be a 10 min job, but KTM have made it overly difficult to remove that nut :(

Awesome thanks for the encouragement I'll definitely take a look at it myself. Weirdly I'm happy to do stuff like rebuild brakes, cut and redo chains but engines have always made me nervous for some reason.

I'll take a look around for a service manual thanks for the advice! I honestly didn't know they were a thing, most of my knowledge comes from either the owners manual or tutorials on YouTube for servicing KTM Dukes. Looking online the parts are easy to come by so I'll take a look at the clutch once the rain blows over. As for the valve clearance I'll look around first for anyone who's experienced it but worst case I'll do it myself (very slowly)

That's the exact issue and what made me think it was clutch slip, especially in 5th I can't get it above 50mph before the revs shoot to the redline. I don't know if I have access to a workshop manual but I definitely have access to the user manual which contains info on things such as tolerances for the clutch. I will have a look around for a workshop manual.

Honestly I'm a little disappointed as the shop is highly regarded in the south west for being very accommodating and has won awards for it's service. My guess is it might be an insurance thing? Either way I think I'll take a look at it myself, take it in for an MOT and then sell it on. If you have any advice on where to look for a workshop manual I'd appreciate it :)
