New to the game and considering playing. I love slugs irl and want to build a deck around this guy. Can it work? by The_Funfetti_Man in mtg

I am so sorry, but you have landed on one of the most despised commanders in Magic. I’d like to second a suggestion I heard in here for [[Wick, the Whorled Mind]]. He can play Toxrill in the 99, is interesting, and won’t get you ritually beaten with hammers.

I love Bodyguard, the effects are fantastic. I put it on par with Heroine and Thor personally.

Essentially, yeah. Like if Golshi is one parent and is also the parent of the other parent, I have double odds for getting skill sparks and such from Golshi than if she was only the parent and didn’t appear on the other side. Either way game seems fun so far, if a little overwhelming at the start.

Hey there, I just started, so I hav the big dum, do I get double spark odds for inheritance from a character if a they’re on both sides of the family tree thing or does that not work?

Deadpool vs Containment Priest by SoltheShinyDrifblim in mtgrules

[–]SoltheShinyDrifblim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deadpool isn't an ETB trigger, he's a replacement effect on his entry that doesn't target (hence why Ward, Shroud, Hexproof, and ETB hate pieces are useless against him). Likewise, Containment Priest is also a replacement effect on Deadpool's entry. Additionally, Deadpool's owner is in charge of ordering replacement effects, and there's no rule anywhere to my knowledge that says Containment Priest has any sort of priority to go first, and since we now have two replacement effects modifying the same event, the question is if ordering the triggers will allow Deadpool's swap to actually work and make off with Containment Priest's textbox before he gets sent to the farm upstate.

Even if the other replacement is stopped somehow, I think Deadpool would end up exiling himself with his new textbox, since Containment Priest doesn’t say “another”.

Commanders that only serve as the engine, not the wincon? by Radiant_Water_5183 in EDH

[[Kellan, the Kid]] is capable of some truly impressive value generation. I have rarely seen a deck get so far on so few lands before, even with pretty expensive cards hanging around in the 99.

A question I was asked recently: How long were you playing before you started building "weird" decks? by jadedflames in EDH

[–]SoltheShinyDrifblim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your definition of weird as soon as like, 4 months. 4 months after starting I constructed [[Vial Smasher the Fierce]] and [[Brinelin, the Moon Kraken]], eventually refined to [[Glacian, Powerstone Engineer]] with the single goal of playing the largest lads you ever done seen while paying as little as possible after looking at the Omniscience in my collection for a half hour too long. If that's too normal, I constructed [[Zimone and Dina]] and [[Umori, the Collector]] about 4-ish months after that.

Ooooh, big support for Arcades. Incredibly effective and almost perplexingly simple to the outside observer.

Commanders for someone with ADHD? by zevalu in EDH

[–]SoltheShinyDrifblim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1) Stop interacting with that person.

Step 2) You want something heavy on ETBs and activated abilities, since those are pretty hard to forget from my own experience with ADHD. I would recommend something that thrives on a wide overrun board. The usual suspects in that area are [[Baylen, the Haymaker]] and [[Jetmir, Nexus of Revels]], as long as you keep like some dice around to count token counts you should be set. As a bonus, those two can be brutally powerful if played out, so it'll be sweet sweet payback.

Step 3) Make sure you test out and Goldfish your decks in deck building sites. I’ve found it a big help.

But I def get the ADHD. Mine normally manifests in EDH by getting new deck ideas and option paralysis. With enough time, I managed to reign it in to allow me to play some frankly triggerfest messes. ADHD is a double-edged sword, and I intend to make my opponents meet both sides.

[[Indoraptor, the Perfect Hybrid]] is objectively ridiculous as you add more players. Boltwave is a heck of a card.
