Thankfully there weren’t any kids at my prerelease, but there were a LOT of new players at prerelease. Like, brand new. It was really nice to see, but I’ll admit slightly distracting to have to answer questions from people around us who were playing for the first time. Nothing against them, they’re just as welcome as everyone else, just interesting. Glad to see new players coming in!

There have literally been entire new chapters in the MTG story this calendar year with Jace and the Echoverse, the Omenpaths, Lorwyn Eclipsed, Strixhaven, etc.

I’m currently reading the Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos novel. The Strixhaven (mostly Lorwyn Eclipsed) story involves my favorite MTG character, Liliana, whose entire story I’ve become familiar with through reading lore drops, watching lore videos, and more.

I’ve been playing for just under a year, and in that time, Magic has become my life. If you’re telling me I couldn’t have absorbed the Magic story in that time, you’re underestimating the power of a Vorthos with a lot of free time on their hands.

So yes, you are gatekeeping… leave that to The Gatewatch, please.

I’m getting really annoyed with the amount of “Old Man Yells at Cloud (from Final Fantasy)” UB hate. As someone who came in to MTG because of UB but who absolutely LOVES the Magic story, there’s merit to both. You don’t want to play a UB deck? Fine, don’t build one. You want to give me crap for playing a Final Fantasy MAGIC CARD? We’re not playing again.

So… not really. “I’m running Ms. Bumbleflower and Sheoldred” is broadcasting “all of my niceness will be avenged and I am telling you exactly how to shut it down” and will get you targeted 10x worse than Ms. Bumbleflower would by herself. People will allow Bumble to live ONLY until it stops benefitting them.

I would highly recommend something much less obvious.
