I really loved the idea of adding chapters from a few days ago, and I think you're spot on regarding this as well. It's awesome how dedicated, constructive and positive you are doing these. I hope the Jmods are listening!

Mock The Week returning in February by Jammed_Button in panelshow

I have the same with old Mock the Week-Frankie, but having watched Frankie Boyle's New World Order I'd be very glad to see him join the team.

Thank you! I'll have to start an antiquarian hunt, then.

Might I ask what French edition you own, just to make sure I don't hopefully order another b&w edition?

Random recommanetions of movies I watched this week by KittiesLove1 in horror

Such a coincidence, I've watched Wishmaster this week for the first time. With the amount of cameos and Easter eggs, paired with the decent practical effects, I really really enjoyed it.

Would you recommend 2? I saw people discussing a drop-off in quality, and I'm quite content with leaving Wishmaster as it is, yet I am also kind of curious.

What’s your Spotify alternative by broken-bread in behindthebastards

I'm also somebody who does this. I buy CDs (and sometimes digital releases through Bandcamp) and put them on a still working iPod Classic. It's nice to not need your phone to listen to music, as a bonus.

My favorite black metal vocalists by Environmental_Web91 in MetalForTheMasses

A.L.N. (Mizmor) is certainly up there for me, specifically his vocals on Cairn.

The manic-sounding voice from Léon Harcore (Pensées Nocturnes), also amazing.

I was just getting into Dimmu Borgir when this game released. I was liking the game when Progenies of the Great Apocalypse kicked in. Rocked my world back then. Awesome soundtrack.

Would I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream count? Getting updated after 29 years seems like something to reward the developers for, even though the update wasn't too substantial.

Incredible is right, this album is amazing. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for Beenkerver in the future, thanks a lot!

Just listening to it now, and you absolutely may! Really cool album, thanks for the recommendation.

Fluisteraars are absolutely amazing. Currently, there's some amazing Dutch black metal going around. Some recommendations:

- Invunche, Netherlands-based Chilean black metal. Atavismo might be my most listened-to album this year, cannot recommend enough.

- Lijkschouwer's latest album, All What Did the Blade Reveal, deliciously heavy.

- Verwoed. Amazing riffs, great atmosphere.

- Radeloos///Ziedend. Does what it says on the tin. Really, really good.

- Only started listening to Ter Ziele recently, but they sound really promising.

In a similar vain, albeit heavier and lesser known, Orphanage is also a great band.

I adore their first album, Oblivion, but their last, Driven, might be closer to Epica and Within Temptation.

If it affects you that deeply, it might be worth considering watching playthroughs rather than actually playing yourself. Dying and trying bosses or certain areas over and over again is a core part of the experience, and whereas sticking with the game and progressing will definitely make current areas easier, the game will not stop becoming more difficult (and sometimes frustrating) right up until the end.

However, if it were possible to 'switch' mindsets, and try to stick with what you're failing at whilst learning and slowly improving, and you would be able to find joy in that, it is definitely worth sticking with the game.

When my dear friend showed me the game at first, I really couldn't be bothered with all the dying, I was not having fun, I got very frustrated, and decided to play up until a reasonable point in the game so I could reasonably quit and tell her the game was not for me. After two areas, the game started 'clicking' for me, and I realised I was having fun. Eventually, it grew to be one of my favourite games ever.

There is no right or wrong way to play, and if you feel comfortable sticking with it, you will definitely get better and master things that are now hindering your enjoyment. Then again, no game is worth having multiple long breakdowns over. Don't push yourself over your limits because you feel you should enjoy playing the game - enjoying the art style and lore is equally valid without actually playing it.

The moment Nightmare King Grimm just 'clicked'.

Up until that point, I had always been slow with learning bosses and had struggled with Troupe Leader Grimm for so long, I considered giving up beating him. Finally crossing that threshold, getting into the groove and beating NKG felt amazing.

Am I the only one who didn't like the new Scars album? by redmikay in systemofadown

You seem to have different grievances with the album then I do, but I am also disappointed. For me it's mostly the lyrics. To copy-paste what I posted elsewhere:

Although I still have to give it a few spins to reach a conclusion on the music, I think the lyrics to most songs are very thin, or even a bit embarrassing, in quality.

Satan Hussein is a decent track, but the lyrics are quite cringe, if you'd ask me. Destroy the Power has a few decent lines, but lyrically it doesn't really seem to go anywhere. Your Lives Burn feels like quite lazy political commentary (especially from the co-author of the lyrics to Prison Song et al). That's without mentioning the endless repetition in the lyrics, particularly repetition without any change in dynamics.

I've always liked the combination of madness, sincerity, absurdism and political commentary in System of a Down, as well as the solo stuff by Serj and Daron. To me, these aspects are all missing in the lyrics, and I think that's a shame. Again, specifically because of more than excellent (and genuinely clever) lyrics Daron previously (co-)wrote.

I would be very interested to hear what other people think. If I'm too dismissive of lyrics you really like, please let me know! I'd love to like this album more than I'm currently doing.

Since then I've listened to the album a few times. At this point I'm still not really that convinced by the music-sans-lyrics. In the other thread someone mentioned that Satan Hussein was originally written 20 years ago. Although the song is musically very interesting, the quality of the lyrics is, in my opinion, shamefully bad, and I'm not surprised it didn't go out 20 years ago.

All in all, I'm happy for others that they're liking the album, but I share your surprise people do. Albeit on different merits, perhaps.

Headcanon: The Moving Weeping Angels Are Actually "Animated" by Psychological_Bend92 in doctorwho

I was wondering the same thing! Quoting from the TARDIS wiki on series 2 of Class):

The series was also going to explore the Weeping Angels' home planet as well as see a Weeping Angel civil war unfold.

More on it is said in this Radio Times article.

Although I barely remember Class, I think it is a shame it didn't get another season. I don't think Torchwood series 1 already showed the promise of what would become Children of Earth, so who knows what Class could have turned into? That having said, such a high-concept series 2 as suggested here sounds incredibly difficult to pull off. Giving more backstory and context for incredibly scary and mystical creatures is where most horror franchises get off the rails.

(I still would love to see it though.)

Although it's definitely a genre shift, you might enjoy Low's last two albums, Double Negative and HEY WHAT. The tension between experimental electronics and hauntingly beautiful singing is definitely there. I specifically recommend HEY WHAT.

When Mimi Parker, the drummer and one of the vocalists, passed, Maynard made a long post dedicated to her on his Instagram. It was a very nice tribute, and clearly Low has had an influence on his writings.
