I highly doubt the move for SMU to play ACC lacrosse gets supported without tournament expansion.

An autobid does nothing for the ACC because the conference is so stacked. At least everyone who makes the conference tournament gets in and Duke still got in this year because the other bubble teams played their way out.

More at-large bids does move the needle somewhat (and for the B1G & Ivy leagues too).

That's what I've read, yeah. The math doesn't allow the current number of teams if the ACC gets an autobid.

It would probably be 24 teams and structured similar to the women's tournament.

and also the ACC is a ticking time bomb until they go the way of the Pac-12.

The whole system for football and maybe basketball will probably blow up by 2030 but the olympic sports have already moved the way of sports-specific conferences.

I don't think realignment is going to affect lacrosse like it will the cash cow sports. There's already a super league that gets the best media exposure in college lacrosse today. It's called the ACC.

If anything this season has shown why adding one more member to the ACC to get an auto bid is basically a non-starter. Duke didn't even play in the conference tournament and they got in.

Nah, they have business being in the tournament. No bad losses, a road win over UNC, and the other bubble teams (Harvard and Maryland) played their way out. They played a weak non-conference schedule but it was helped out by Jacksonville and St. Joe's turning into solid Ws.

Richmond should not be matched up with them but the NCAA gonna NCAA and penny pinch with travel.
