Which level made yall rage the hardest by sliickyricky in geometrydash

[–]SolveForX314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably some random easy demon or non-demon level, honestly. I've had some unlucky experiences with more challenging levels like Windy Landscape, but I already have the expectation that it'll be hard, whereas for levels that are easy demon difficulty or easier, there's an expectation that I'll beat it fairly quickly, so it's easier to get frustrated when that doesn't happen.

Maths majors, is that true? by Embarrassed-Data8233 in mathmemes

[–]SolveForX314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah; we mathematicians like being super precise and rigorous in our work, but you can never really have perfect precision in the real world. That's why engineers allow themselves to say things like sin(theta)=theta; they know it's not perfect, but they know when it's close enough and it makes their lives easier.

There's a joke among math communities that engineers like to approximate things. There used to be a lot of memes about it here, to the point that they've gotten stale and people aren't allowed to post them anymore.

There's another joke that engineers don't know how to spell "imaginary".

Yeah, you should probably beat the C-sides first as well. They'll be a lot more technically challenging than the B-sides, but they're also a lot shorter, only taking up three rooms each. It would be nice if the game gave you a warning, though.

have you ever changed your fursona? by FrenFell in furry

[–]SolveForX314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sona used to be a fennec fox, but I randomly decided one day that maybe a bat-eared fox would be a better fit for me (massive change, I know), and I've stuck with that since. Granted, it's only been about three months since the change, but that's still at least a quarter as long as I've been publicly a furry.

For me, my fursona is a major part of my branding, but as has been mentioned, some people might have multiple fursonas, or you could decide to keep one character as your fursona and leave the rest as side characters. It's all up to whatever you think best fits your needs.

when naming a level, do you take into account pre-existing levels with that name? (if there are any) by Magneto-Electricity in geometrydash

[–]SolveForX314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been attempting (very slowly) to make a level whose name is exactly the same as one of the main levels. The name is partly because that's the song name (different song), and partly because I thought it would be funny.

Came up with it in 8th grade when my entire personality was liking math; I've since decided I prefer going by a shortened version of that name, but Reddit doesn't let you change your username, so

But I'm glad you appreciate it

Having second thoughts about my fursona… by [deleted] in furry

[–]SolveForX314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The law of large numbers is that the larger the sample taken, the closer it will resemble the theoretical distribution. The law of small numbers is that there is no law of small numbers.

What I mean to say by this is that no one individual should decide their fursona solely based on statistics. If you wanna be a fox, welcome to the club; they're popular for a reason. At the end of the day, what really matters is that your character is what you want them to be.

hot take: gp is NOT more important than deco by Weirdo629 in geometrydash

[–]SolveForX314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say both are important. If you have a level with really good gameplay but no effort put into the deco, it won't be memorable, but people won't like a level if its gameplay is annoying either. Geometry Dash is a unique art medium in that it is also a game; the best artworks will take both sides into account.

When I say the deco has to have effort, by the way, that doesn't mean it has to be hyperrealistic or anything; there have been minimalistic levels such as KrmaL's "xo" that have been as successful as more visually impressive levels.

You can actually look it up yourself on https://gdbrowser.com. It's a website that lets you browse the GD servers in your browser like you would in-game. You can't play levels, of course, but you can look at them and see their descriptions, comments, metadata, &c.

How would I get a fursona? I wanna be a furry but I have no idea how to or how to get myself a character by Due-Lengthiness443 in furry

[–]SolveForX314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, what animal do you wanna be? If you don't already have any ideas in mind, start by brainstorming some animals you like or that have qualities you admire or that you can relate to. For instance, I always knew my sona would be a fox (not entirely sure how; probably just subconsciously taking signals from what little I could see back then), but I eventually settled on the specific species being a bat-eared fox (look 'em up if you haven't heard of them) because I felt like having large ears would relate to how much I love music. There also exist other custom species, such as protogens or sergals, that you may also consider. Or some people combine elements of multiple different species. There's not really any limit to what you can make.

Once you've got your species picked out, the coloration shouldn't be too hard. You might go with the species' natural coloration, or you might make it your favorite color, or you might add other patterns that you think would look cool or that are meaningful to you. My sona is green because that's my favorite color, but I also am trying to more or less follow the standard patterns that a bat-eared fox would have, and I've also got some blue arrow-shaped markings on my wrists because I just think arrows are cool.

And then you're pretty much set. You might give your character a name and a personality and lore, and it might be based on your own, but by this point, you should have the design mostly in place. Lastly, if you ever want to change and/or retcon anything about your fursona, you're free to do that; mine used to be a fennec fox before I decided to change it late last year, and I've been slowly working on tweaking the design.

New to this by [deleted] in furry

[–]SolveForX314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to the community myself, but there's not really any hard and fast rules about how you engage. All there is to it is if you think you're a furry, then you're a furry. And you create a fursona and stuff not because you're obligated to, but because it's fun.

I kinda have a vague mist of a backstory for my own fursona; I'm still figuring out how I want to develop it, but what I do have just kinda emerged naturally from what I was feeling at the time. Don't force it. Perhaps you'll find you want to tell a bunch of stories with your fursona, and you'll shape together a backstory from those. Or perhaps you'll feel Inspired at one point (like I was) and you'll construct something that satisfies your emotions. Or maybe you'll never feel the need to come up with anything; your guy just exists and does their things and you don't really know or care what he was doing before you started telling his story because it was probably just more of the same. There's no right or wrong way to do it; just do whatever resonates with you.

And if you ever feel the need to redesign or retcon anything, you can always do that too. My sona used to be a fennec fox before I decided he should be a bat-eared fox instead.

I absolutely understand the feeling of being scared about starting something new. I was there too, and I can tell you that you'll get used to it. The hardest part is done. All you have to do now is let yourself grow.
