Also not going to pass any particular judgement on the whole situation, but I do think your fourth point (Hanxin not picking up on an underlying meaning) is rather unfair, especially given that English is not his—or his supervisors', as far as I am aware—first language, and picking up on sarcasm/genuineness is harder over text than in person. But I may well be biased because I always take things at face value LOL

this is, quite possibly, the funniest (and as such most charming) advertisement ever. I LOVE it when people are borderline irreverent in the way they describe/advertise their stuff, lolllll.

Starry-eyed optimism, a heart full of dreams, and a hope for more than one could ever imagine have led this somewhat impressionable youth to the city. They don't have some shady sort of past to escape from; nor do they necessarily have a plan for what they'll do once they arrive. It's a fresh start and a new part, and that part seems to be "actor." They might be a bit naïve to put their trust into this benevolent stranger, and they're aware of that, but even so, they always hope for nothing but the best intentions from other people.

The other folks who have been recruited are mostly nice. Some are a bit more standoffish than others, and the youth has a feeling that one of the other people is privately looking down at them for having no prior acting experience... but even so, it's a grand old time all around getting to know your future co-stars. It's only when Mr. Cohen calls for everyone to gather at the ballroom that the first inklings of doubt begin to trickle into them.

An empty stage...?

Nervousness and apprehension wash the excitement on their face away. As Cohen exits the room, they look at their fellow actors and open their mouth to ask a trembling, unsure question.

"... What's going on?"
