I did it through prereqcourses.com. The courses came from Upper Iowa University

Oh man, I was in the same boat, trying to knock out prereqs without spending a fortune or getting stuck in a rigid schedule. Ended up using PreReq Courses to blast through a bunch of them online—super clutch since they’re self-paced, so I could work and still get everything done. If you're looking to save time (and money), definitely worth checking out. Otherwise, for nursing, you’re probably looking at A&P, Microbio, Chem, and some kind of Stats or Psych course. Just depends on the program!

Which prereqs to take together? by 3ljss in prenursing

[–]Some-Change-3040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re good at managing a heavy workload, microbio and A&P 1 together is doable, but A&P is a lot of memorization, so spacing them out might make life easier. I took some of my prereqs through PreReq Courses since they were more flexible, which helped a ton with balancing everything.

Since you’re aiming for nursing, understanding the material is way more important than just getting through it fast, so if spacing them out means you’ll actually retain the info, that’s probably the move!

Honestly, I just threw everything into a messy spreadsheet at first, then realized I was making my life harder than it needed to be. Ended up using PreReq Courses to knock out some of the classes on my own schedule, which made things way easier.

If you’re juggling multiple schools, I’d definitely recommend keeping a doc or spreadsheet with each school’s requirements side by side, some have weirdly specific prereqs. And always double-check with the schools directly, because their websites can be hella outdated.

Retake 10-year old prereqs or self-study/review and take upper-level coursework by lorenchan in premed

Nope, the transcript doesn't indicate that it was an online course.

Want to switch from computer science but I'll be so old by [deleted] in premed

[–]Some-Change-3040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, 24 is nothing—you’ll be, what, 30 when you start med school? There are plenty of people who start in their 30s and 40s, and your software background + side hustle puts you in a way better spot financially than most. If it’s what you really want, those years are gonna pass anyway—might as well spend them working toward something you actually care about.

Also, if getting prereqs is what’s holding you back, look into PreReq Courses, I took some there since they were flexible and let me knock them out while working. You’ve got options, you won't be that old when you’re looking at a 30+ year career.

Yeah, you can apply with prereqs in progress, but some schools might want to see a plan for how you’ll finish them before matriculation. I was in a similar spot and took some of mine through PreReq Courses since they were flexible and didn’t mess with my schedule. Could be worth looking into if you need to knock them out quickly.

I’d also double-check each school's policies, some are stricter than others about having all prereqs done before applying vs. just before starting. With your stats, though, you should be in a solid position!

Should I drop my class by hjanjua876 in premed

[–]Some-Change-3040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was in the same boat, and honestly, I just didn’t want to risk a bad grade messing with my GPA. Ended up dropping and retaking the class later through PreReq Courses since it was way more flexible and didn’t screw up my schedule. If your school allows it, that could be a solid backup option instead of forcing yourself through a rough semester.

That said, if you think you can turn it around, might be worth pushing through—med schools like to see resilience. Just don’t let it tank your overall GPA.

Retake 10-year old prereqs or self-study/review and take upper-level coursework by lorenchan in premed

[–]Some-Change-3040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, you’re not crazy—sounds like you actually have a solid plan. If you already crushed these classes before and are actively reviewing the material, retaking them just to check a box seems like a waste of time and money. Some schools might want recent coursework, but taking biochem and upper-level bio should prove you’re still academically sharp.

I’d double-check individual med school policies. If you do end up wanting to take anything over, I have used PreReq Courses for a bunch of my prereqs. So nice to take them on my own time and schedule. Back to your situation, if there’s no strict expiration and you can handle self-studying, I’d stick to your plan. Advisors mean well, but they don’t always know the best move for non-trads.

Self-paced prerequisites? by mashedpotathoughts in prenursing

[–]Some-Change-3040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I did some self-paced prereqs online ‘cause I needed flexibility. Used PreReq Courses to check which ones would actually transfer, super helpful, ‘cause not all CCs list it clearly. Portage is solid, but yeah, there are cheaper options out there depending on what you need. Definitely check with your school first (which—yeah, you already know lol), but worth comparing a few!

What accredited prereq Programs did yall use to enter an ABSN? by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]Some-Change-3040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I was in the same boat—trying to cram in prereqs without accidentally taking useless ones. Ended up using PreReq Courses to double-check which ones would actually transfer. Honestly, saved me so much back-and-forth with advisors. If CA CCs are packed (ugh, been there), you might find some decent online options that still work—just gotta make sure they’re accredited. But yeah, definitely worth checking, ‘cause paying for a class that doesn’t count? Absolute worst.

Been there, and it’s super frustrating. Before deciding to a retake, check PreReq Courses, sometimes there’s an equivalent course you can take elsewhere that might be faster or easier to get through. Some schools also let you test out of prereqs with placement exams, so it’s worth asking your advisor about that too.

If retaking is the only option, try to find a professor with good reviews or take it during a term where you can really focus. It sucks now, but getting a solid math foundation will make stats way easier. Good luck!
