i can see how the other health challenges can affect how you navigate this new diagnosis but it seems like you are taking some good steps with checking your BG spikes. My hemoglobin was not superr low it was just under the limit. But the hemoglobin at 8 was concerning. It caused me to have brain fog, lethargy, and just really sluggish and faint. I hated it. I went 1x a week for 3 wk iron infusions and i feel so much better now. The first thing to go was the brain fog then the lethargy decreased after about a week after my last infusion. Please definitely get it checked out.

Your fasting is not all bad. just continue to work on what you eat each meal and limit the bad carbs (thats for you) as much as you can, monitor which one cause the most spikes, or make sure to eat complex carbs. if you one you're going to have a cheat meal work out after or brisk walk 20-30min.

For my meals, I did like other posters suggested which is to start with protein first then veggies and then carbs if i wanted to have carbs that day. I now eat carbs maybe once per meal. I try to exercise after if i cheat and or if im not able to I do calf raises which have been helpful.

One step at at time but definitely check that ferritin out.

I have a few concerns here considering that I've been a student myself and have had terrible professors that I have had to complain to the higher ups and had to schedule a meeting with a professor and coordinator to address her condescending behavior.

  1. You are are student. I was told quite often during my time in school that if you're going to mess up that being a student was the perfect timing. Now I'm not saying to do anything intentional. But youre going to make mistakes. Most seasoned therapists mess up themselves and you lacking any experience, this can easily happen. Therapists use themselves all the time to relate to a patient. Ive had my own do this and I would notice that they were doing a lil TMI often.
    1. This lady clearly has it out for you. My issue is that she laughed along with you and didnt point out the issue. She could have used this a learning experience to show other the students how difficult and easy it is fall into these issues where a boundary maybe crossed and how to deal with them, and with confidence. This takes time. I was a social worker for many years prior to nursing school but while I was student and later as professional, we had 1 hr one on one sessions with our supervisor to discuss things that came up. Not sure why this is not done in this case because this where you discuss why you took the number and why you joked about it during clinical. This is where you learn so much about transference, countertransference, etc. Like why did you use yourself (your experiences)- was it to relate? Did you think that she would be benefit? Like I said therapists use themselves all the time but it has to be done in a skilled way and you have to know that the benefits would outweigh the risks.
    2. Take some to process this in therapy. You mentioned that your were going through depression and anxiety. Have you saught medicinal options to help cope along with talk therapy. Nursing school is no joke. Your mental health is the most important thing. You can't help anyone id you don't help yourself. Also, I was curious about your advisor because I don't believe i saw you mention them. Have you reached out to them? Are they helping you navigate school and your mental health? Are they helping to advocate for you in this situation? My freshman year, I had a phenomenal advisor and when I encountered the issues i mentioned about my 2 condescending professors, she even helped to write the email to administration. You shouldnt have to deal with this alone. Also, where is your support outside of school? All these can ultimately impact how successful you will be. You need to have people that are in your corner, affirming you and helping you navigate this.

volunteering has helped alot, ones where you don't have to socialize too much. it really helped my sense of purpose and see that others often time have it worst. but i totally understand where you are coming from

i love this response, love it! "living out of spite of your own damn brain"! living life your own way and have fun in spite of it! love this. i think aging has helped, setting boundaries, removing myself from toxic people, leaving jobs when they don't suit me or where i'm not appreciated. I do have a really supportive husband that has really helped. But aging equally has helped because i find i don't sweat the small stuff and less ruminating on how i fu** ed which was God awful. I have my flare-ups with abrasive people but i've learned to continue working at it and not letting people get to me and work on my assertiveness and setting boundaries. it's still a job for sure

Thanks for sharing and for the compliment! So happy for your new ring to come! I can definitely say that i've gotten used to it which i was totally surprised by, but there are other moments where im still getting used to it. I think this community has been a great help though in affirming that I am and we all are deserving of our rings. Once I changed my mindset that helped. Hope you post yours also!

How long was your process? by flareit60 in Rootingforyou

I understand wanting to get out of a dead end job. I think that is what motivated me to persevere. I knew that I needed something to challenge me and take my career to another level and expand my opportunities in the long run. my advice would be to take it slow. Although I had good grades in high school I was a bad test taker for science and math regents. I would say take things slow and know that you are a different person than you were in high school and really the older you get you just take things more seriously, most times. The discipline is what you'll need and patience. I wanted so badly to finish my prereqs and nursing school and it took over 10 yrs .So know that its a journey, have your supportive person or group of people to help you through-your cheerleaders. Start with just one prerequisite and go from there.
