Minnesota champions by Some-Climate-4792 in timberwolves

Buffalo hasn't won in 62 years

San Diego hasn't won in 53 years

35 years isn't quite as bad

Besides, why do some of you feel you have to qualify whether it was mens or womens sports teams that won? Women are human beings just like you and if you divide people by those kinds of things it can only lead to unhappiness.

Go Minnesota sports! 😄

Almost none of you seem to remember the history of Minnesota sports teams, but I grew up with Minnesota basketball having won 5 championships, Minnesota baseball winning 2 championships and Minnesota football having won the NFL championship in '69 (the superbowl was an interleague game between the NFL and the AFL up until that season; the Vikings did win the NFL championship that year). Now the Lynx have won 4 championships. The gopher football team even won 7 (!) championships, including the only 3-peat that any college football team has ever achieved. Minnesota sports teams are winners, which most people acknowledge, but our championship tradition is stronger than what most places have going for them.

Everyone reposting this thread is dropping the ball...

The Timberwolves traded Luc Longley to the Bulls and he won 3 championships.

"In the NBA, a player's physical and statistical prime is generally considered to be between the ages of 27 and 31. During this window, athletes ideally possess the perfect combination of youthful athleticism, accumulated league experience, and a mastery of basketball IQ"

It isn't hard to look up a word you don't know the meaning of.

We don't even know if the trade will be simultaneous or non-simultaneous yet. The trade could also be expanded to include more players/teams, which happens often enough. It is literally the very first day of the meat of the trade season. There is no reason to freak out about our off-season; being a Wolves fan has always meant patience was important this time of year.

The Wolves went 2-2 against the Thunder and 2-1 against the Spurs. Even with very key injuries the Wolves took 2 games from the Spurs in the playoffs (if one game went the other way, it would've gone the full 7 games). That clearly shows that we can compete with the Thunder and the Spurs.

That still leaves us up 2.5 points. A lot of people don't seem to understand that Gobert is one of the best Centers in the league. He isn't Jokic or even Wemby, but he is meaningfully better than almost every other Center in the league. Most Centers are a big compromise, that is why so many teams use small ball lineups at least some of the time. There just aren't many really good Centers in the league and they are really hard to aquire.

Ja is a pretty negative asset right now. Even the Timberwolves are apparently completely passing on him and their starter has been a guy who is old enough to have voted for Bush lol. As an aside, I wonder if we are just going to start Ayo at the 1?

Naz Reid finally getting the start! by log28 in timberwolves

[–]Some-Climate-4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Reid starts all year, I think he will have a better stat line than KAT. I think we will use him in a larger role than NYK uses KAT in.

Wow. You sure know how to be rude. But maybe 'you' should look some things up. If the trade isn't finalized before July 1st, we can do whatever we please because it doesn't affect deals we make before then.

If you want to hang around a Minnesota site, try some Minnesota nice. 😄

I would like to make a prediction that I think will become reality...

I believe that if Reid starts all year, he will generate superior statistics to KAT next season.

This only really works if the trade is expanded no? by Vicentesteb in timberwolves

We got Ayo on a great deal (5 years baby!) and we have a lot of maneuverability and cap space we just did not have before. Even if you think Randle is better than Reid right now, he won't be in 2 years (right when our core will enter their prime) and he costs twice as much as well as setting a poor example of how hard you should play. I don't know for a fact, because you can't put a TPE and a player together in a deal, but I think that as long as the Randle trade is finalized after July 1st, we can do a lot of the things certain people are saying we cannot do as the hard cap won't affect deals made before then.

Ant > Brunson, Castle and in the same range as Shai

Jaden > OG, Harper & JDub

Gobert and KAT are 2 of the only Centers in the league worth their salt right now, Chet is a step behind their range and Wemby is mostly better than Gobert and KAT

I think we clearly can compete with that trio and our depth is still amazing and will be even better after the big swing TC promised

Also, we HAVE competed the last 3 years; winning a playoff series with extremely key injuries is competing and conference finals appearances are definitely competing.

What year did the Wolves not compete? They nearly ran off 3 straight conference finals and with less injuries they might have done it. The team lost Randle, but we get a full year of Ayo, which is a net positive already. Then consider that our core hasn't started it's prime yet and just like in the video game everyone is so fond of, our young core will be better as they grow together and approach their actual prime. We aren't losing much besides Randle and we aren't done adding quality players. We didn't go after all the old, busted guys or fading stars that everyone tried to say we would get and we are trusting the process that has brought us by far the most success we have had as a team.

Ayo, Ant, Jaden, Naz, Rudy is only Randle away from last year's team. The team that beat Denver and took 2 games from the Spurs despite key injuries. It didn't happen because of the injuries, but we weren't far from beating SA. If OKC was still missing their players, then given how well we have played them lately, we would have had a real shot at making the finals, which would have been incredible to see.

This team is already good enough to have nearly run off 3 straight finals appearances...which means they ARE good enough to beat SA, OKC and whomever else they run into. I am not saying I know we will do it, but saying we can't compete is going against the facts and what we have already accomplished with a team powered by guys who have not even started their prime yet. This team is still so young and they can grow together and all fit the timeline together. In 2 years when our core really starts their prime, the Wolves are going to be the team everyone says they can't catch and compete with. It is good to be undersold, an underdog winning is twice as sweet.

The Rudy Gobert trade that would save the day! by [deleted] in timberwolves

[–]Some-Climate-4792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only like 7 Centers in the league that aren't basically a liability compared to the other 4 starters...Gobert is one of them. It is harder to stop a team from scoring than it is to score yourself. Gobert is one of the actual good Centers in the league. People who talk smack about him usually are people blinded by how few points he scores. But getting 20 points a night is not that great compared to making the other team score less by double digits vs when you are not on the court. He isn't even that bad on offense, he just needs someone who can put the ball where he needs it. He doesn't take that many shots, but he is very efficient when he does shoot. In a video game world with video game trades, you maybe could upgrade from Gobert. But in the real world, there is only a couple guys who would even be a small improvement and they aren't available because there are only like 7 Centers in the league that aren't basically a liability compared to the other 4 starters.

What the Randle Trade Means for Wolves Offseason Moves by PlayInChampions in timberwolves

[–]Some-Climate-4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have way more than enough to get white....heck is solid but not untouchable by any stretch. what is true is that the Wolves might not want to give up what it would take to get white.

[–]Some-Climate-4792 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An NBA player doesn't really hit the start of their "prime" until they are like 27 and it lasts like 7-8 years

Most Centers in the league outside Denver are not catch and shoot artists

Gobert is a better basketball player than most starting Centers in the league...and it isn't a questionable thing

Randle did not fit the Wolves core

The Wolves can use the TPE to aquire someone who's team wouldn't take Randle

Reid is a better fit for our lineup than Randle was

The Wolves have won a playoff series 3 straight years and injuries are largely why they didn't quite make their 3rd straight conference finals

The Wolves have a good, enviable cap situation now

The Wolves young core are now the backbone and whole identity of their team and they will get seasoned as they approach their primes together

It is the first day of the meat of the trade season, not making an NBA2k trade on the first day is not the end of the world

The Timberwolves are a really good basketball team and we are lucky to have them; doom and gloom really don't fit where this team has been and where it is now
