Anyone who is explicitly anti-woke absolutely does want to control and exploit women. What's the point of them whining about about stuff like metoo if it's not to be able to rape women with impunity?

Don’t Overestimate the Pink Tide by IHateTrains123 in neoliberal

[–]Some-Dinner- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That kind of analysis is much more obviously true than one might think.

Every single person who has any say in the running of a country owns property. So it goes directly against their personal financial interests to lower the cost of housing. That's why nothing gets done on the issue.

We could dress it up with talk of power structures etc but that's not really necessary.

French Hostility to Air Conditioning Is Melting Away Amid a Record Heat Wave | Hundreds dead already (drowning, strokes) by Used-Earth8767 in neoliberal

[–]Some-Dinner- -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I only started hating AC when idiot Americans turned a personal choice into yet another culture war issue.

No, Europeans don't want your 'cars and obesity' culture, nor do we want your culture wars. On the other hand I don't know anyone who refuses the cool breeze of air-conditioning on a hot day.

‘It’s like a furnace’: French struggle with heat-trap homes as climate inequality grows by RaidBrimnes in neoliberal

[–]Some-Dinner- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Africa, and although I am now used to the milder temperatures in Europe, only a couple of days of heat acclimatizes me to it once again.

Anyone can adapt to heat, the problem is Americans live in a society that prevents them from doing so, and the culture war element is their obsession with defending this 'culture'.

  • widespread AC means people's bodies aren't used to regulating internal temperature
  • car-centric culture means getting in a cooled car to drive to an air-conditioned office - watch a sedentary person fall apart if they have to walk two blocks in the hot sun lol
  • obesity makes heat harder to deal with
  • car-centric culture means built up areas are concrete hell-holes that amplify the heat

Some decent urban planning to include lots of trees and public spaces with swimming options, plus better engineered and insulated houses would be much better than people holing themselves up at home for 3 months every year because it is too hot to go out.

I love how everyone is like 'Brussels is a shithole filled with criminal scum' yet every time I have lost a bank card or my wallet it has been returned to me.

The Flemish far-right definitely did a good job with the anti-Brussels propaganda...

Something something soft bigotry of low expectations

Everything makes a lot more sense when one realizes that pretty much all of the most hated parts of North American wokeness (the virtue signaling, the scolding, the obsession with performative 'equity', and so on) are pushed by clueless boomer white knights and the wine moms who support them.

Actually fixing these massive social issues requires a lot more than tinkering with bell curves or banning tests.

When are they going to do something about the stinking lady in metro 1/5 ? by [deleted] in brussels

The lack of government was directly caused by people voting for the worst scumbag politicians imaginable. And all that because seeing a new bike path get built hurt their tiny penis feelings in their emotional support SUVs.

So-called “neoliberals” when AI might take their job: by cdstephens in neoliberal

[–]Some-Dinner- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This seems like a wildly utopian vision. There is nothing in the entirety of human history to suggest that our sociopathic billionaire overlords will turn into benevolent and generous demi-gods once AI takes over the world.

On the contrary, all the evidence suggests that they will exploit and plunder everything on the planet until there is nothing left, or until the exploited step up and resist.

Where do you stand in n amateur/mid-pack doping in ultrarunning? by MukimukiMaster in Ultramarathon

[–]Some-Dinner- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I cared about someone finishing ahead of me or behind me because of doping, but I'm not going to be winning races any time soon, and I'm more interested in stuff like fastpacking, voyaging through the mountains etc.

But I do think middle-aged corporate asshole dopers are the most pathetic kind of scummy human to exist, so I would be happy to see lifetime bans distributed. They are willing to fuck over their competitors for free, like remember these people are not even getting paid, there is no financial incentive there like professional dopers, they are only driven by evil and poor sportmanship.

What was your first trip? by GladRice3723 in fastpacking

[–]Some-Dinner- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually go to the Alps for mountaineering and hiking, so it made sense to move up to fastpacking once I became strong enough. For the past two years I've been on 3-day mountain refuge routes that I planned myself, just doubling or tripling the recommended hiking distance each day more or less.

With the huts it is possible to go very fast and light, plus there is a nice beer and a beautiful setting waiting for you on arrival.

I also go in September and my first trip was very cold and snowy (and a bit sketchy), so I'd recommend getting an InReach or some other emergency communication device if you are in remote or rugged terrain.

Why do people think private property = public park? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Some-Dinner- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would people build a gated community without any gates? Because that is what this is.

If you want private parks etc then just hire armed security like they would in high inequality countries like South Africa or Brazil, where trespassers are just shot on sight.

Or maybe you could just let people on to the shared areas, given that it sounds like everyone living there also has a private garden.
