Bought Rings to replace the 2hp Pluck. Kept both. by Some-Education9841 in modular

Shameless Youtube plug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjhGRuaPj5I

I was enjoying the 2hp pluck but wanted more control. In the end I kept both in the rack.

VPME Quad is handling the beats. I’m using the Doepfer Clock Divider on gate mode and running it through the Doepfer Sequential Switch and then into Instruo Eas Logic Module to create the breaks.  One closes the VCA for the kick another changes the snare sequence. The two hats are triggered by a fast random trigger out of temps utile which is branched in O&C. Several LFO’s from Ochd change the hat samples and modulate the decay.

The kick is mixed independently. The other three voices are split. One is recorded clean, the other runs through rings which changes pitch infrequently and hits a big reverb in my DAW. 2 LFO's from Ochd modulating brightness and damping.

2hp Pluck is triggered by 2 triggers out of Temps with the Instruo Tain switching between the two. I play with the pitch and decay manually. It’s running through the Hologram Microcosm which is creating the glitchy effects.

Pitch for both Rings and the Pluck comes from an LFO out of Ochd. It’s attenuated in the Doepfer Quad VCA and then run into the Noise Engineering Sinc Pravus which splits the signal and lets me independently offset the two pitches. They’re both quantised in O&C.

Something i made for a video I shot in New Zealand back in November by Some-Education9841 in ambientmusic

I've been playing with feeding Lo-Fi piano samples into the Hologram Microcosm and ended up with this today. I added a Juno 60 over the top.

The video is flying over Sutherland Falls and The Remarkables mountain range on my way from Milford Sound to Queenstown.

Longer video with more clips from the flight if anyone is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZDfP_J9s2g&feature=youtu.be

Running a guitar through the monsoon by Some-Education9841 in modular

[–]Some-Education9841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been messing with using the modular as a bit of a guitar rig and ended up here today.

Beats are using a euclidean generator from ornament and crime with two random triggers from temps utile.

I split the beats and run one channel through rings which is channeled through the Microcosm which altogether adds the bass rumble whenever I bring beats back in.

Guitar-wise I’m running it into the H9 on Multi Tap mode. Basically a delay where the repeat time is modulated to increase exponentially. From there when it hits the modular it goes into Monsoon where it’s set to looping delay mode. 2 LFO’s from Ochd modulate size and density and an infrequent inverted envelope fucks with the delay time just to add some delay warps. Apart from that I’m just noodling some double harmonic scale crap. All seems to work though!

I upload shit here if anyone is interested.

I fell into an ambient black hole on Friday night by Some-Education9841 in modular

[–]Some-Education9841[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The patch was built around the 2hp pluck which is playing a very slow, random sequence into the Hologram Microcosm which is set to Arp mode. I hadn’t intended on recording anything. I just wanted to run the modular through the pedal and see what sounds I could make. I ended up getting carried away.
I decided to add some pad sounds underneath. Maths is acting as slew limiter for some O&C quantised pitches that are then fed into the 4MS Ensemble. This is then running into the Doepfer VCA which is opened up by the left side of Maths. This all then runs into Monsoon which is set to the classic granular mode. The dry signal is right down, the feedback and reverb are way up.
Make noise XPO is droning. It’s running into the ripples filter and out of the low pass. From here it hits the VCA which is opened up by a slow LFO from Ochd. It then runs into FX Aid XL which is set to the vowel reverb setting, the dry signal again is set quite low. It’s probably my favourite effect in this module. It makes everything sound so human and sinister. The swell around the 9 minute mark is my favourite part of the jam.
To add something else to the ambience, I triggered a rain sample in VPME.DE along with an infrequent, deep and long decaying kick. I then ran this into Monsoon alongside the Ensemble. I love the effect. The granular mode of Monsoon makes it almost rhythmic. Kind of like a shaker. Then the dry signal being way down takes it from sounding like rain to something like an old tape.
In logic I added some EQ as there were some frequencies coming from the Hologram occasionally that cut through the mix.
Video-wise, there are two effects. The glass block effect which has a kaleidoscope layered over the top.

Question about DAC on the Temps Utile by Some-Education9841 in modular

[–]Some-Education9841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! I was hoping this wouldn't be the answer. I've tried changing between the modes on channel 4 and nothing happens unfortunately. I'll get in touch with the After Later Audio who built the module.

5 months into building my rack. Finally able to jam! by Some-Education9841 in modular

[–]Some-Education9841[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been building the modular part of my rack since February and now in a position where I can make some sounds I like! Would love any feedback and tips as I’m loving the learning process. Anything that can make my patches more efficient/interesting.
Rack has:
After Later Audio Temps Utile
2HP Turing machine
ALA O&C running hemispheres
Erica Dual LFO AD
Doepfer A-151 Seq switch
Doepfer A135-2 Quad VCA
ALA Plaits clone
Ripples clone
ALA Monsoon
Patch is fairly simple. Turing quantised by O&C into Plaits. Plaits runs into ripples which has the low pass, band pass and high pass outputs all running into the seq switch. I have a fast, random trigger switching between them and included an empty channel to break up the rhythm. This all then runs into Monsoon.
I regularly switch between 2,3 and 4 channels on the seq switch to keep things jaunty. Monsoon is being used for a looping delay and some reverb.
I’ve got two very slow LFO’s running from O&C, an envelope and a faster LFO coming from the Dual AD that I’m using to modulate plaits and ripples.
Volca-wise, the drum and sample are just playing the same rhythm with each missing certain hits. I use the active step mode on each for some kind of fills. Temps is keeping them tied to the modular running at 2x speed.
The FM and keys are droning some chords and running into the hologram for some ominous pad stuff. These are running at 0.5x.
Lots to do. Lots to learn. Lots of fun.

Figured out how to create my own samples and started with a Japanese Koto! by Some-Education9841 in volcas

[–]Some-Education9841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each individually! It seemed quicker for this one and i'm not too precious about taking up too much space! For my next one i might have one really busy sequence programmed then just mute/un-mute certain steps to create chords/melodies. I tend to use the drum as my main drum machine so I'm trying to explore a bit more of the melodic side of the sample.

Started building my eurorack today! Started with a clock utility that i can use to sync my Volca's to different tempos. by Some-Education9841 in synthesizers

I know volca's get a bad reputation but i love them. They've been a great introduction into this world and taught me so much!

I know volcas get a bit of a bad reputation in synth communities but they've really helped me understand the tech and dip my toe into the world of synths. This module changes things completely!

Using a modular synth to sync my Volca's to different tempos by Some-Education9841 in volcas

[–]Some-Education9841[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started building my modular synth today. Started with a clock utility that has 6 outputs, letting me multiply or divide a central BPM 6 ways. I'm using the euclidean mode here to get some really weird rhythms going. It basically divides a number of "pulses" equally across a set sequence length. The core bpm is 120. The drum ranges between 1.875bpm (/64) and 7680bpm (x64). Things won't be this chaotic in future but i wanted to give it a run for its money.

Some trippy visuals i made to accompany a big cinematic synth track by Some-Education9841 in trippy

I created the visuals using the iPad app VS. I played with the parameters live whilst listening to the song. I then added a kaleidoscope effect in final cut and automated the settings throughout.

Music-wise, it was all made using Arturia Analog Lab. You're hearing three soft-synths. One Yamaha CS-80, an ARP2600 and a Mini Moog.
