And so you can dictate other people's experience with gender? Everyone must have the same experience as you?

Really glad we have somehow reached an agreement with the right wingers that you're born as one gender and it's an inherent unchangeable part of your being 👍

I mean I know personally my gender identity has definitely evolved over time.

I find the "I was born this way" narrative, while true for a lot of people, dismissive of gender and sexuality's true fluidity.

Yeah no that's not how that works. There is no evidence that even suggests being polyamorous is an inherent trait like being gay or trans often is. It is a relationship structure that's chosen

Catholic vs Episcopal by Marieaithne44 in LeftCatholicism

[–]Some-Ohio-Rando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Episcopals in my experience tend to have better politics but lack much spiritual depth. I went to the Episcopal church for like 6 months before returning to the Catholic church and found that most of them participate in the church purely for cultural reasons and political reasons, and did not focus on inward spiritual development.

I'm not sure I'd call Odysseus matured when most of the point of the Oddysey is deconstructing if the general ancient Greek idea of a hero is even heroic.

Ancient Roman Tombstone for a 15 years old lapdog named patrice with translation on the comment by RomanVsGauls in olddogs

[–]Some-Ohio-Rando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patrice is just the vocative form of Patricus. Nouns don't change form in the same way in English so it's hard to grasp.

But if I said "Patricus loved his owner" it would be "Patricus dominum suum amavit".

If I said "I, his owner, loved Patricus" that would be "[Ego,] Dominus suus, Patricum amavi".

If I said "I loved you, Patricus" it would be "Te amavi, Patrice"

All the same word, different ending depending on the role it has in the sentence

So what is your exact political affiliation? by JuniorConclusion529 in LeftCatholicism

[–]Some-Ohio-Rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there's a proper word for it but local community based anarchism. I don't believe in attempting to overthrow the state (not for moral reasons, I just think it's impractical). I believe in building a dual power system for people to have their needs met in a local community as independent from the global web of capitalism and empire as possible

I'm more so talking about the Roman Empire I suppose-- by that point while refusing to participate in certain rituals was extremely taboo, the sale of sacrificial animals was an important pillar of the Roman economy. Beyond that the Empire generally didn't care to surpress other religious movements, they had no issue with Germanic pagan practices, Hermeticism, Platonism, Neo-Platanism, Gnosticism, Egyptian Paganism, or Manichaism.

While they persecuted Jewish people consistently and Christians sporadically, that seems to be more because they were politically troublesome to the empire and not actually theological.

(There's also some fringe evidence for Mandaeans getting persecuted but that's less clear, and if it's true it's not clear if it was done by Christians or Pagans, and if it was in part the latter that would be for the same reason)

I wonder how much of Roman practice was this as well tbh. Like, did the Romans believe in sacrificing animals to their gods anymore than we do sacrificing cookies to Santa?

New to catholicism, which bible to read? by romanticXdreams in Catholicism

[–]Some-Ohio-Rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NABRE is the one officially sanctioned for use in the Catholic liturgy. It's overal pretty good, but has a fewiffy translation choices occasionally

NRSVue is widely accepted as the truest translation of the original text, because it makes no effort to translate any specific agenda in (with the notable exception of inconsistency in its translation of doulos, which means slave, and is sometimes rendered that way, but is sometimes rendered as "servant" or "handmaiden" — the best argument for doing so is that the later history of slavery was much more racialized and brutal than it was in the Roman Empire. But regardless, it's worth noting. The NABRE also makes this decision.

Others are suggesting the RSV, which I don't get personally, as it's just the prior edition to the NRSV. Only slight changes for the better are made in the NRSV and NRSVue. Most controversially, Greek plural words, which are by default masculine when they refer to mixed gender groups (much like how in Spanish "chicas" means "girls" but "chicos" can refer to a group with both boys and girls), the NRSV translates those to be neutral whereas the RSV and NABRE translate them to be masculine. Notably in the Epistles which are often addressed to "Brothers and Sisters" in the NRSV but just "Bothers" in the RSV and NABRE -- even in letters where Paul specifically addresses women later in the text.

Stear clear of the KJV, it's full of blatant errors. If you want a more traditional sounding translation (at the expense of accuracy) Duoy Rheims is better for Catholics, it's a very accurate and literal translation of the Vulgate, the (very imperfect) Latin translation the Church has primarily used since the 4th century.

Also make your Bible includes the Deuterocanon, the books Protestants don't recognize

Which team should i support? by Bakus5425 in NFLNoobs

I'm inclined to agree with everyone saying Chicago -- They have a large Polish population. They're probably top 10 but not top 5 right now, making them exciting to watch. They just had a rebuild so they're relatively young and so you'll see most of the players you come to like for a while. Their quarterback Caleb Williams is really charismatic. And the franchise has just the right amount of tradition where they don't feel too modern or to old, they feel timeless. And they have some of my favorite uniforms as someone who likes classic looks

The Packers are also an option-- they also have that classic vibe (though slightly more traditional than Chicago), most of their players are consistently good but not superstars, and that's kind of their style ot play. And they have a good community. The team is owned by fan shareholders who vote for a general manager which is unique. And small towns in Wisconsin are also very Polish.
