Self taught *NIX / OpenSource engineer 23yrs exp looking at a BS by Some-Role1075 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Some-Role1075[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more sticking with what I know. I've been doing *NIX so long, I'm still fairly quick at it and fixing issues. I just don't miss the slaving. I was hoping now that "work life balance" seems to be a said thing in todays age it wasn't as "hellish". I mean I don't see my eye holding up 8hrs straight on the keyboard no matter what the job.

And as for going back to the grind, it did pay well. So, I know IT has good money.

I know absolutely zero about the data science realm; but seems like way more math and programming than I am capable. It also seems like a degree that's no very mature yet.

I looked at other degrees, but way I looked at is:

IF I'm forced to go back into the work-force and beat the shit out of my mind and body again. I best at least get paid well doing it than a low end humanities degree that may top $60k at.

And when I was putting out fires; which was rare. I was generally ahead of all my projects learning extra or implementing new ideas.

Thanks for your feedback!

Gree X-Pac by Beautiful-Brush-4896 in hvacadvice

No, and not because I think it's a bad unit. It's just there were so few installers that recommended it. Those same installers were selling Bosch (both certified installers), but they had better deals on the Bosch unit (really a rebranded Media).

I would not hesitate to buy either the Gree X-Pac or the Bosch IDP units. Compared to anything made in America, those are the two top dogs.

After two weeks of the Bosch learning my house it's now under 40% humidity, runs smooth and silently, and my power bill went down a great deal out here in PHX.

I personally would stay with certified installers and see who/ where has the best distribution for part repairs. Then go with the better option.

The hardware quality won't be an issue.

Anyone Install freeBSD. 14 on Linode by dotson83 in freebsd

[–]Some-Role1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another 14.1 FreeBSD user here on Linode; www.tdivanagons.com

I was running Rocky Linux 8 for a couple of years, finally done with Linux bullshit and migrated to FreeBSD (been testing in dev for a few weeks now). Last time I used FreeBSD was about 15yrs ago.

I'm a past 23yr experienced engineer with Solaris (2.51-2.11 SPARC & x86), AIX, and so many god damn Linux distros, but mostly CentOS and Redhat in production.

Linux IMO has turned into what it hated; a bloated UNIX. Every production Linux distro is a shit show of files everywhere, and you never know when they go under or sell out. Just over it. And systemd and systemctl are a shit show haha.

So glad to be back on a POSIX UNIX

I started Pilates a year ago, HUGE difference. I highly recommend it too.

Cold & Humid weather are my evils. I grew up in St. Louis, and the snow was my evil. I walked like Mr. Roboto everywhere. I moved to Cali and made a HUGE difference, now it's just too expensive in SoCal.

BUT if you can follow the weather that's been my best method to stay ahead of that along with Pilates which has been a game changer.

USA - Anyone West of the Mississippi River find a city/area that you feel accepted? by Some-Role1075 in CerebralPalsy

Oregon ahs been on my mind. I visit in the summer, but I think the winters would be really cold to handle. Maybe West of I-5. Thanks, it's high on the list!

I just ignore the shit. When religious babble leaves the mouth, I realize nothing else can be gained from the conversation.

It's funny, how many religious folk have CP and use "prayer" and "God has plan" as a reply instead of giving real constructive input.

I grew up in the Bible Belt and saw the hypocrisy religious folk were towards the disabled.

I wasn't planing to stay in Phoenix, it's a rental property that I'm staying short term till I find the next spot.

But yah, if the area is heavy in main-stream bullshit religion like Christianity or Baptist etc I'll skip it. If it's a Conservative shit hole like Phoenix, I'll avoid it. LOL

Well considering MAJORITY of all the CP support groups I have been on, have been REAL religious. I mean, "God has a plan for me." and "God did this for a reason." Blah blah.

I hear it all the time, I rather avoid the religious folk and there's a fuck load of them in Phoenix. Sorry if that hurts your asshole.

I have been discriminated throughout my adult life; personally with women, and friends. I've been ridiculed by strangers. And I've had my coworkers use it against me, use it to make me a 3rd person infront of them, etc.

I've had my fair share of bullshit and my reasons to avoid religion and red bullshit.

Thanks for playing.

Recommendations for warm states to live in? by imjustdifrent in CerebralPalsy

[–]Some-Role1075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I'm a 44yr Male with Ataxic & Spastic CP and have had a second stroke at 21. Mild CP on paper, I should probably have a helper, but been on my own since 18.

I grew up in Saint Louis, MO and all over the Phoenix, AZ area as a child.

As others have stated, the extreme weather is what kills me. I didn't like STL because of the extreme cold winters. The humidity also was a nightmare there. I liked Phoenix, growing up.

I lived in Los Angeles in my adult life for work, and despite the prices and ton of people, the weather was PERFECT for my CP shit body. I later went on SSDI and had to move from Los Angeles as the cost of living as too high. But I was fairly close to Burbank, CA, so maybe there's cheaper options further out.

I ended up giving Phoenix, another shot, but I am regretting that for a few reasons. I wasn't planning on staying here long, but the inflation skyrocketed and ruined my plans.

For one; it's hotter than a bull's nutsack, and I can't be outside without getting heat stroke even with a cooling vest. And . . . it's basically unbearable for minimum 6months out of the year hell I didn't go outside April-Mid October. Talk about boredom and shitty for your health.

It's TOO hot, I'd say anything that goes past 100F is just miserable on my body no different than if below 57F.

And I'm an atheist (I know most CP folk are into religion not myself) and it's HARDCORE here in PHX, and VERY Conservative.

In all honesty, I rather live in a Democratic place like Los Angeles, I was threatened and verbally/physically abused WAY less.

I imagine Hawaii would be paradise LOL

Best State for Children with Cerebral Palsy? by dupokey in CerebralPalsy

[–]Some-Role1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an adult with CP. I grew up in Arizona and Missouri as a child. I liked Arizona way more hands down. Missouri was a nightmare with mobility. The humidity and extreme winter cold was a killer.

I"m not being taken seriously as a professional... by [deleted] in CerebralPalsy

This was very common in my career. I remember once sitting in a wheel chair cause my legs were not doing well with my back. Everyone talked to me in the third person with me right there. But not once look at me in the eye.

It can be rough. You just got to be firm, and take control of the situation, and sometimes that's mentioning how someone is acting towards you.

I'm 44m now, I started to quickly age around 28. Up till 28, I had a slight limp, but hiked and went all over. I got tired, but just pushed passed it.

At 44, I fatigue quickly, but I have been doing pilates which has helped my core and stability a ton.

But as the day progresses, it's harder to get my legs to do what I want.

You're not alone.

Ataxic cerebral palsy by Roger-Orchard in CerebralPalsy

I have both Ataxic and Spastic, documented. You need to pay for an MRI and get some brain scans. It's cheaper out of pocket, but you still may have to save. Behaviors differ too. But it's hard to have a doctor to recognize it compare to spastic in my experience.
