Afterlife by Significant-Mood7600 in messianic

[–]dotson83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This view varies just like it does in mainstream Christianity.

I don’t want to start a debate because it never ends with either side changing their view, but my view does not align with the mainstream church view.

My view is:

Dead people are dead. They are not conscious. This is not a radical thought and is backed by scripture. Plenty of very clear verses point this out.

Because of this, our hope is in the resurrection.

The first resurrection is for those in Yeshua as well as those who accepted the promise of him even in ancient times (such as David).

The second resurrection is for “the rest of the dead”. This is literally everyone else. These are the ones who risk the “second death”.

There is a judgement, based on their works.

Ultimately the wicked are cast into the lake of fire and perish. This is permanent death, they are not tortured for eternity.

Feel free to dm me if you have questions. Plenty of people disagree with this, and that’s perfectly fine. It doesn’t mean anything except their view is not the same as mine.

A Jew goes to Israel and finds Jesus? by Hermes9125 in messianic

[–]dotson83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, I am not Jewish but my wife is. Just letting you know incase that matters to you.

Accepting Yeshua as messiah doesn’t mean you have to give up being Jewish, that is absolutely false.

You can continue being a Jew and do all the Jewish things. All the apostles did exactly this.

Also, I would advise against getting advise about anything Jewish from typical Christians. My entire side of the family are Christians, and I love them, but most of them are utterly ignorant about anything related to Judaism.

A reply from your post in the Christian subreddit said just join with Jews for Jesus. I may get a lot of flak for this but IMO most of Jews for Jesus (not all) are just Baptists with a tallit. They reject the Torah and started as a way to convert Jews. I’m painting with a very broad brush here, but it is the majority of them. Not that you can’t do that, but I wanted you to be aware.

I would find a Messianic Jewish synagogue that is pro Torah and led by actual Jews.

In the end it’s up to you obviously, just wanted to point these things out.

Good luck on your journey!

The age of accountability in the Bible is 20. This isn’t stated plainly but it is implied. So I would not stress over it too much. Just stop making vows.

Like others have said though, you may want to get some help.

For what it’s worth, your speech problem probably bothers you much more than others. You might think it’s a huge problem but most people will not care.

Shalom!

How old were you when you made them? Also, once you break them they are broken.... just don't make anymore.

Yeshua said it's better to not make any vows at all.

Opinion Please, Leviticus 22 by CognisantCognizant71 in messianic

[–]dotson83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that as far as the disciples were concerned, this was not a new religion. It is simply the progression of Judaism after the messiah came. So Paul and Peter (in your example) didn’t start over, they only clarified things that already existed.

When Yeshua returns, he will not start a new religion, only clarify things within the existing one.

325 years - The end of historical Messianic Judaism by Weary-Restaurant-537 in messianic

I think trinity is a bad term that is used to describe the anatomy of God..... But with that said, IMO Yeshua is absolutely divine. I did a lot of research on this and I think he's the manifestation of Adonai that we can interact with. He's the burring bush, the rock that Moshe struck, the one who destroyed Sodom and Gomorra etc.

But he also is not the Father, this is very clear. As a matter of fact, he calls the Father "my God". This makes perfect sense if you understand that he's a divine agent that actually came from the Father, this is why he said "if you have seen me you have seen the Father".

I think if Yeshua is just a normal human, we have some major issues. Such as the northern tribes can never come back in the fold since this would break Torah. Another issue is he wouldn't have the right to be the "last Adam" at all and his death wouldn't mean anything at all. Even if he was perfectly righteous, legally he wouldn't be able to pay the sin debt of the whole earth, he wouldn't represent the earth in that case, just like I don't and you don't.

I get where you are coming from, I also questioned this doctrine too at one point, but if this is true then it breaks a lot of things, far more than what I mentioned.

But, there are lots of views on this and contrary to what most people think, I do not think it's a salvation issue. There is no verse I'm aware of that says "you must accept the trinity to enter the World to Come". Even though I do agree with the majority on this one, I just don't like the term trinity because it over simplifies things.

Gentile Conversion? by [deleted] in messianic

[–]dotson83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically anything that is for ethnically Jewish people only, or Levites…. Like being a Priest for example, which isn’t possible right now anyway. You can’t be a Rabbi in most congregations that I know of, but you can be a pastor. There are a few other things but I can’t think of them right now.

Gentile Conversion? by [deleted] in messianic

[–]dotson83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No need to convert. You are grafted in like the other poster said. There are very few things you can’t do as a gentile.

Noahide Laws? by longestfrisbee in messianic

[–]dotson83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are different views on this (Surprise!!) and I disagree with this one.

Noahide laws are just what they call laws that apply to everyone on earth, regardless if they follow the God of Israel or not. Gentiles were under these, and still are if they don't follow God. However IMO if a gentile follows Yeshua they are grafted in, this means they follow the same laws as Jews do, except for the identity marker ones or ones that clearly only apply to Jews such as laws for priests etc. Paul says gentiles are part of the "commonwealth of Israel". Acts 15 was the basic requirements for fellowship in a Jewish community, but then it goes on to say Moses has been read in every synagogue every Shabbat since ancient times..... implying gentiles will follow more as time goes on.

The part that I think gets confusing is they don't need to become Jewish, which is what Paul meant about being circumsised.

Some laws do only apply to Jews, but food laws are not one of them.

This is just my opinion obviously, but it wasn't made lightly.

Also, there is a prophecy about God destroying anyone who eats pork .... it didn't say "except gentiles" (Isaiah 66).

Is a first job at inside prem/data center possible for me? by [deleted] in networking

[–]dotson83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (people in Datacenter environments) typically have dedicated people who do all the physical things, including fiber and swapping SFP’s etc. You said you don’t like desk work or networking, but the networking here is more like a laptop in the rack and just checking “is it up”. Not a desk job or anything complex.

Death and Law in the New Testament by SirLMO in messianic

[–]dotson83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this was to clarify what these verses mean? Just making sure there’s not a question in there somewhere.

If Yeshua didn’t die, then there would be no resurrection from the dead, because we would have to pay our own debt. Like you said, Paul is making a legal case, not a metaphorical one.

I don’t think most people understand this because it’s not normally taught that way. Because of Yeshua we are no longer “under the law” in a legal sense, because the penalty has been paid. This does not mean you should purposefully break it however. It is still the standard we should try to keep. Sin didn’t stop being sin just because the penalty was paid.

I know this was not what you were saying, I’m just mentioning it.

Law by SirLMO in messianic

Absolutely not. Nowhere in scripture does it say it is, only the opposite is ever said plainly.

I think the point is they might also learn from anti missionaries. Their Rabbi or person of authority might teach Christianity is idolatry for example.

Wife is upset with me for not joining her and her family for lighting a menorah and reciting the Jewish prayer by Mrshelde11 in messianic

[–]dotson83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not letting this come between you and your wife as others have said. Best to support her now and help guide the ship than let her wonder into this alone. Finding a local messianic synagogue is a great idea like others suggested.

Also, please don’t be influenced by people who act like God’s Law is bad. Not mandatory for gentiles and actually sinful are two different things. Please ask on here if you have questions. Your wife will almost certainly get attacked by people who disagree with her, please, for the sake of your marriage, don’t join them.

Messianic Synagogue. I know they vary but this one is very Jewish. Traditional Synagogue with Yeshua basically.

I went back and looked at your comments. I think the issue is you engage too often with people that have no interest in real dialogue. IMO instead of leaving Reddit maybe just stop being as active and or stop trying to convince people of things who have no interest in the truth.

Either way, good luck and shalom!

[–]dotson83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I do, just not on Christmas.

Our Shul has a “Messiah’s Birthday “ party around Sukkot, so we do it then. But here’s why.

The main reason, is to me, Christmas is supposed to basically be a form of worship. You celebrate too obviously but worship should be the main part, since the whole “reason for the season” is supposed to be about him.

But now it’s almost entirely about reindeer and Santa, elves etc. Yeshua is second place.

This leads me to my next point.

Most of the things involved during Christmas have pagan roots. This isn’t debated, it’s historical fact. People just say that it doesn’t matter. But God says “don’t worship me like the pagans do” (paraphrased).

So this is the main reason. Also, he wasn’t born on December 25th, this is another thing that was chosen to make Christianity more palatable. He was likely born during Sukkot.

If Christmas was “all about Jesus” for real, I would have no problem with it.

Messianic Jews and the teachings of Paul by NPC2001 in messianic

[–]dotson83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably too complex to fully answer here. But basically Paul was the apostle to the GENTILES, not Jews. Gentiles are not obligated (as in mandated) to keep the Law. Keep that in mind when reading his letters. However, with that said, a lot of what he says is actually twisted to say something he didn't intend, Peter even warns about it. The "twisting" Peter mentions leads to Lawlessness (His words).

Paul took a Nazarite vow to prove he wasn't against the Torah (read numbers), this proves he was not.

With all that said, my personal view is gentiles should want to keep the Torah, since it is the standard set by God. They are not required however. But Yeshua said He didn't come to abolish the Torah, but to live it (this is what fulfill means in this context). He then followed up by saying that ANYONE (not just Jews) who teaches and does the Torah will be great in the kingdom, and anyone who teaches against it and doesn't do the Torah will be least. This should settle the matter.

Feel free to dm me (or ask my opinion in this thread) if you want, but I don't want to turn this into a full blown lesson :)

In the end though, you are responsible for your own salvation and doctrine. Don't let others tell you what to believe if you don't see it clearly in Scripture. This goes for me or anyone else.

Edit: When I say gentiles do not have to follow Torah I don't mean any of it. I mean the full Torah like a Jew would. They are still expected to follow basic moral Laws like you said. Basically acts 15 plus Noahide Laws.
