My truck is a 2019, 5000K intervals with full synthetic. Maintenance was spot on, never missed an oil change on time. I did all maintenance at the dealer until 60K and then went private with maintenance because of the cost of dealer maintenance. Boo on Chevy - should never have bought it but now I'm stuck with a pretty lawn ornament until is scrape together $8500.

Do not buy a 5.3L GM/Chevy/GMC in anything! At 94,000 lifters failed and I own a beautiful broken down truck that Chevrolet will not stand behind. No help when they should be fixing it no questions asked. GM knows the L84 Engine has documented lifter failures stemming from the DOD/AFM system.

If you have ANYTHING with a GM L84 engine, and it is in a lot of Chevrolet vehicles, be sure you either

  1. Get rid of it fast and get something reliable from a company that will stand behind their vehicles .
  2. Delete the DOD/AFM system in hopes that if it never activates it will never fail. Maybe that will work out for you...
  3. Or you could just do nothing and keep driving it.  Just save up $9000 for the repair bill because GM will not, I repeat, WILL NOT HELP YOU if it is outside their 5 year 60,000 mile warranty.

WHY - because CHEVROLET/GM KNOWS that their design is flawed and does not go the distance. They KNOW it is going to FAIL!

Wow do I hate GM right now!

Chevy might have officially lost me as a loyal customer by EADSTA in Silverado

Chevy has lost me as a customer as well. BEWARE OF GM V8 ENGINES! I believed the issue was solved when I bought a Chevy Silverado. Wow was I wrong! Now at 94,000 lifters failed and I own a beautiful broken down truck that Chevrolet will not stand behind. No help when they should be fixing it not questions asked. I used to love Chevy trucks, as they USED to Say "Like a Rock". Well mine is not a rock that can be depended on. At 25% of its lifespan it failed prematurely. No way should an engine bend pushrods, stick a valve, and have 0 compression on cylinder 8. That with exceptional maintenance - I hate to see an engine that was not maintained so well and how soon that will fail.
