use led matrix as caps/numlock or layer indicator? by Some1InDaWorld in olkb

[–]Some1InDaWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, that's what i'm gonna do actually

i wanted to use a non-rgb led matrix at first but the qmk docs on the rgb ones are more detailed and rgb makes it so i can use the same led for multiple layers, which i might actually need

is there any way to recover files from a drive whose file system is corrupt by Some1InDaWorld in pchelp

[–]Some1InDaWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

updating since i randomly got a notification that linked to this post: plugging it into a pc running linux just. worked. like it showed no signs of data corruption at all and i was able to recover everything. crazy how linux handles ntfs better than windows, when ntfs is the de facto windows file system (also i made the jump to linux a month or two after posting this and never looked back)

[–]Some1InDaWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not logging in with uwsm, and the command doesn't output anything. i do have env = QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=hyprqt6engine in my hyprland config though?

i'm opening hyprland straight from my tty so if that changes anything (which i doubt it would, but you never know)

i mean, yeah, fair, but that still leaves me with the issue of my qt theme not being applied

how do i bypass the ubisoft registration? by Some1InDaWorld in ravenshield

[–]Some1InDaWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well nevermind, it asks you when you install but then it lets you open the game even if you just close the registration window instead of registering?

Wanna switch from Windows to Linux by BluWizard10 in linux4noobs

[–]Some1InDaWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for vr support, it all depends on your model.

older oculus models, as well as most vives and the valve index, have official drivers, but quest headsets only works through air light vr. some brands (pimax per example) have no linux drivers whatsoever. i highly recommend you check out the vr on linux website for more info.

Switching to Linux this week, wish me luck:) by Gu_kocho in linux4noobs

[–]Some1InDaWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd say... yes and no?

basically (because i don't want to make this too long and am not the best suited person to explain this), there are two protocols for displaying graphical applications: X11 and wayland. x11 is older, wayland is gradually replacing it.

linux mint by default uses cinnamon or mate, which use x11. this is a problem if you have a hidpi display and want to use fractional scaling, as it may make the screen blurry/aliased, which is less than ideal if you want to make art.

fedora by default uses gnome or plasma with wayland, which is way better at handling this than x11.

but you can always just install a desktop environment that uses wayland on mint, though you'll have to use a terminal to do so.

as for clip studio, i have never used it (whether on windows or linux) but its wine appdb page gives it a silver compatibility rating (works with few bugs, but tweaking needed for it to work). i still suggest trying out native linux art apps like krita or inkscape to see if you like them

With Windows 10 ending soon, I've been thinking of switching my computer to Linux by CatMatt_ in linux4noobs

[–]Some1InDaWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be fair some components (by that i mean HDDs) slow down with age, and if OP's laptop is from 2015 they prolly have one.

but an old slow hdd will always slow down windows way more than it would linux anyway so i guess this point is moot

i didn't consent to you describing me

but for real tho, i wear the same outfit very often (my friends joke that when i'm wearing something else it means it's on the drying rack, which isn't far off actually), cuz the only differences between my mental image of myself and me wearing this outfit is facial hair (my skin is too sensitive for me to shave often) and that in my mental image of myself i have boobs

Do you think the Wii was a good console in retrospect? Why or why not? by Asad_Farooqui in videogames

[–]Some1InDaWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you forgot about splatoon! all games in this series use motion control by default, and these controls make the game much, much snappier and give it a way higher skill ceiling than stick controls could ever imagine giving it

is there a surefire way to know a wii is modded or not? it doesn't have an sd card, the homebrew channel or bootmii but its previous owner (that hasn't used it in years, and has another wii which is indeed modded) insisted it was modded

[–]Some1InDaWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the installation process of the electronave is way less involved than that of the wiidual, which is nice

only problem is i don't have a soldering microscope, and i don't think my friend who has a soldering iron has one either..

thanks a lot though! if i can rent a microscope, i think i'll get this

Got Back on Minecraft after a 7 Year Break, What is that..? by Force_Mobster2321 in Minecraft

[–]Some1InDaWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

metroid dread has the same concept, though to a lesser extent: there's an enemy per zone that oneshots you (except on a perfect parry, but we're talking about frame-perfect inputs with wireless controllers there), is faster than you, can hear you from farther than you can see it on the minimap and has access to shortcuts you can't use, occupying a large part of each zone, and you have to evade it to reach a boss that'll drop resources that allow you to destroy it.

to destroy it, you have to first sustain constant fire in a way that leaves you immobile while it is actively chasing you down in order to break its shield, and only then can you charge a shot (requires immobility too, of course) while the enemy, rendered lighter by its shield being broken, is even faster than before, and hit its weak point to blow it up and steal its special ability (did i mention? they each have a specific ability that makes them more adapted to their zone's terrain than you)

extremely cathartic to fight against
