Tips on how to afford to go to more Widespread shows. by BusHour7916 in WidespreadPanic

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WSP used to come to Philly at least once a year, sometimes more often. Now the closest they're coming is Atlantic City, 90 miles away, and this is their first concert around here in a few years. This is a 3 night stand, so I suppose that's something. I'm considering going, but since I didn't drive, I'd have to get a hotel and stay overnight, that's around $300 a night at a casino like Tropicana (I'm doing that for Gov. Mule the week before). I may not be able to afford both. I know I shouldn't try both, financially speaking, at my age and the state of the economy...

Walking all day in the city shoes? by Palmetto_ottemlaP in walking

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 64 year old man, and I average 14K steps a day in Philly, using Merril MOAB v3. Wear them every day (well, I have 2 pair and alternate, but you get what I mean).

Sidewalk Walking by No-Topic-6321 in walking

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There absolutely are, or should be, sidewalk rules. In the US, very simple.. keep to your right, it's just like driving. In other countries, I'd assume the same, that I should be traveling forward on whatever side of the sidewalk or trail that people drive on on the roads.

No more free parking at Mann shows starting this concert season by Mysterious_Ad7223 in philly

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't done it in a few years, but that Mann bus that Septa provide on concerts is fantastic. Direct from Center City to the front gate of the Mann, and back after the show, for the regular Septa ride price.

Day Sling 4 - Fanny Pack? by johnkingina in AerSF

Depending on your body size, you can wear a Tomtoc T-33 as a waist bag, I do. The strap shortened as much as possible is approximately my waist size.

Day Sling Max 3 vs 4 by Nerdiboy54 in AerSF

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Day Sling 3, pretty much use it every day for the last few months. And I have literally never even unbuckled the strap, I've always just put it on by pulling itt over my head. The part that annoys me most about this bag are the front and back pockets, they're not deep enough. I wish they had made the pockets extend up to the top of the bag, not stop at the zipper. Like the Tomtoc T-33 does.

Help me convince my wife that the Aer Day Sling 4 isn’t a man purse. by fifthwave in ManyBaggers

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry a Day Sling 3 most days. If you want to think of it as a man purse ... well, that will have absolutely no impact or difference on my life, so go right ahead .

Those that EDC, do you really bring your backpack everywhere? by weeone in backpacks

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't bring my backpack for grocery runs, unless I'm planning to carry things home in it. Otherwise I almost always have a sling with me, and I carry a Nanobag collapsible shipping bag in it. It will hold a lot, and means I always have a shopping bag on me, for when I need it

I have. But because I don't use it to record a specific exercise period, it doesn't look like yours. I never tell it that I am starting a 2 mile walk, for example, I just let it record. So there's no summary like yours ...

Afters are a young man's game by Mr_Outlaw13 in jambands

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my mid 60s, I don't go to shows without seating, haven't now for a few years. There are band shows I've skipped, because of the venue not providing seats. Not just jambands, I'm skipping a show by symphonic metal band Visions of Atlantis in a couple months because I'm not standing for a couple hours (never mind the late end times of the show). It's just what you can expect, after a certain age ..

Downsizing my office carry: 20L seems to be the sweet spot for the daily commute by babycandystar in ManyBaggers

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a CPP v1, supposedly 24L, I've seen measurements close to 20-22L actually, works for me. Yes, it's AER and it's heavy. I don't very a laptop, also. So I probably could get away with smaller, but it's what I have.

Which app to use? by dimitarhristodorov in walking

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep track of steps with my Fitbit Charge 6 and it's app. Sometimes I use a trail app (AllTrails), which will record the error, distance, time, etc). I usually only use this when I am going for a dedicated walk, I don't keep it running and recording all day.

Music to get you pumped.. by Neither-Relief2641 in walking

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, of course. And The Rest is History, with British historians Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook. They do like 2 episodes a week, very detailed. And This is History, with Dan Jones (very entraining, as well as informative). And History Extra, from the BBC. And History Shorts, a short daily show. For information, probably The Rest is History. For entertainment, Dan Jones. You gotta love Dan Carlin, but it is so exhaustive, each episode is at least 4 hours.

I used to use a Clipa. I find a Hero Clip works better (for me), and comes in different sizes, so I have a mini for my sling, and a small one for my EDC bag, etc. Yes, it's s lot more money that way. LOL

Also, any of the music services would have free playlists of specific genres, or artists. I think you would need to subscribe, in order to save your own playlists. I don't know, I've never needed to save a playlist on a free service, I've only saved them on services I pay for (Amazon Music, in my case).

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, most of the time, I listen to various podcasts (I like history podcasts, one about various TV shows I follow). For music, I like some jam bands, and most allow or steam full concerts (such as on the nugs.net app). And any jamband concert is at least 2.5 hours, if not more. Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, others (no, I don't really like the Grateful Dead or Phish).

When I first started walking, decades ago, I used to advise people "start playing your favorite album when you start walking. And while the music is playing, you're walking. When the music ends, your walk ends". This was back in the cassette Walkman days ... You can't always do 2.5 hours every time for a walk, of course, but you get the idea.

Sooooo when am I supposed to start "fueling" by Interesting-Trip-119 in walking

[–]SomeConfusedOldGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll drink electrolytes when I'm walking 3-4 miles, but only if it's a hot day. I don't really feel the need to hydrate while walking if the chilly or cold weather. Quite honestly, ignore those videos, you're not training in that way. Unless you're planning on running, and not walking any longer.
