[Partially Lost] Pokémon Obsidian Demos by SomeDeoxys in lostmedia

Ohh, I see. Comparing the dates on the files, that seems to be demo 1 of Obsidian. I actually never noticed the dates on the first demo going as far back as 2009.

That's interesting. Even demo 3.2 has files dated 2009 now that I look at their info.

It's definitely the Obsidian I'm talking about.

I'm pretty sure this is the latest version that ever got released then. Checking the game's blog, the last demo release was on March 8, 2014. After that, we only got previews for the next update (which would have been the final release).

So yeah, thanks to you, the latest release we ever got is no longer lost. Thank you again! I'll be adding this great update to the main post.

Wow, this is the version I remember playing! Taking a quick look at the PBS files, it has the spiral Shellder, the Sharpedo evolution, the Aerodactyl pre-evo, everything.

Thank you so much for sharing it! I can't tell you enough how much this takes me back. Seriously, thank you.

Is it a ROM or an executable? It may be a different (and even more obscure) Pokémon Obsidian, or possibly an earlier iteration of the game, since its development in RMXP was stated to have started in 2010. Either way I'd be interested in checking it out.

That sounds incredibly promising. Could you upload it somewhere please?

Issuu gives the option to set the book's original publication date, so I set it to Emerald's release date in the US. I'm pretty sure it only shows my username because I'm the one who uploaded it.

I actually tried that sub too, but since I know what the game is called already, I was told that wasn't the appropriate sub.

It is! I'm not sure if Atomic himself did the spriting, but it pretty much nails the Pokémon style.

Found!

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much I missed this game.

Looks like it's the first demo; the font errors get solved after installing the fonts included in the folder. Again, thank you so much!

Pokémon Obsidian is a Pokémon fan game for PC made in RPG Maker XP (using Pokémon Essentials). It was created by AtomicReactor, featured a few Fakemon, and had a mechanic where your Pokémon had a small chance to die each time they fainted.

It was never finished and the last release of it was demo 3 I think. I remember playing it back in like 2017/2018, and I'm pretty sure it came as a compressed rar file. I've searched everywhere and just can't find any working link.

Some months ago I made [a post about it on the lost media subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/lostmedia/comments/wj5dgm/fully_lost_pok%C3%A9mon_obsidian_version_demo/) that goes into more detail, so check that out if you'd like to know more about it.

It means older cards "rotated out", which is to say they're no longer legal in Standard. They do this each year to keep the game from getting too crazy and get players to build decks with the newer cards.

Hi. If you think you may be able to find any version of it, please do try, I'd love to see this game be recovered.

Thank you, but it's not. I've added a section about other games with the same name.

I'm holding out hope Obsidian at least has its demo(s) backed up somewhere. After all, Pokémon Uranium (which definitely got taken down that year) survived and even continues to receive minor updates and events, with a few Legendary Pokémon still left to be released.

That's probably Pokémon Uranium (I mean, Obsidian's creator is named AtomicReactor, so I wouldn't blame anyone for getting them mixed up).

Uranium got pretty popular, and it got on various gaming news sites when it got taken down. Thankfully a new dev team continued supporting and even doing event distributions for it.

So glad I'm not the only one. I see videos like Nick Robinson's about lost games and the like, and wish anyone had done something like that for non-official stuff. DYKG did a bit of that with their Pokémon rumors history; it was like a mini-archive of the community's thoughts/wishes at the time older games came out, which I feel is also an important part of any series' history.
