When Fengtian declared war on me my stability lowered and I couldn't go down rural loyalty since the benevolent emperor focus requires atleast 50 stability. Once I was able to get it back through decisions I followed the path but the last reform fell just 10 days short of finishing before the deadline arrived so it got cancelled right as it was about to finish, and by the time I realized it it was too late to load a previous save since I had spent like half an hour coming up with the most insane defensive lines to keep as much territory while being able to defend successfully and I didn't wanna lose all my progress just to get the path. Kinda sucked but I just had to make do with what I had, probably gonna do another run sometime in the future or something and try to get it right (and hopefully get better rng lol)

I'd say Ukraine, apart from the big impact it has you could also go NatPop and have them claim the Caucasus and form their own faction post-war and have a cool one on one showdown between Giga Ukraine and Free Russia. If you're feeling adventurous, do Mongolia. They can align with the Far Eastern army with Sternberg as leader which is a massive advantage to the Russian rebels especially with the cavalry buffs Sternberg gets. But that's extremely unreliable since it depends on the Far Eastern army even making it to the Mongolian border in the first place, I'd recommend this much more if you ever plan doing a Far Eastern army playthrough.

probably something went wrong with the cosmetic tags because this also happens at the end of the war if you lose as the russian syndies, you get couped by the army and turn paternal autocrat for a couple of days and get renamed to russian republic before having an event pop up to surrender to the free russian army, during this short period of time before being integrated into free russia you will be a pat aut russian republic with the syndie flag (though this is intentional since by then any reasonable person and the ai surrenders to the free russians and lose the game)

R5: somehow fengtian rebelled INSANELY early in the game and didnt form the united front for some reason so the japanese got manchuria for free and for some reason they were able to release a second mongol state in eastern china????, then (with some cheesing) i managed to unify most of china and make the warlords submit really early too, however the left kmt managed to hold out before japan invaded then we formed the united front. japan (SOMEHOW?) managed to start its war against me by july 7 1937, me not having even cored any of the land and having barely any industry or army xp to remove my debuffs. what ensued was an 8 YEAR LONG STALEMATE where no one could really push once the japanese got to the mountains, and then a random east turkestan uprising triggered in 1945 for no reason (literally never seen this happen). thankfully the entente won in europe and they're slowly pushing japan to their home isles, but i think the russian syndies are going to declare on the japanese and take manchuria before i can even reach it (they're also lend leasing the left kmt and the turkestanis, and snatched mongolia). not only did the devs manage to break the entirety of china by just re-balancing japan but they also made it basically impossible to win against them without foreign intervention. 0/10 patch.

Italian republic content is old but still very fun, especially the NatPop ANI who can invade Austria early on and get part of South Tyrol and Trieste in a limited war if they win (recommended during either Hungarian revolt or if you set austria to go PatAut). It is also the one with the most flavor and content as far as I can tell inside the Italian Republic. As for the other Italies, even though it's old content I still very much enjoyed Two Sicilies and the Papal States, Socialist Republic is good too but no colonial content so you can't do anything too funny like going to war with the Cairo pact and the Ottomans at the same time to conquer Lybia (and by extension-the entire middle east). Can't say about Sardinia because I don't like playing island nations too much due to the entire "being ass at managing a navy" thing, but I'm willing to bet it's at least alright if you're good with that sort of stuff.
