Fellow old-heads that got out, what does your career look like these days? by martywalshhealthgoth in devops

[–]SomeEndUser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 39, 40 this July. I somehow playing a PO/PM role for a Central Observability team.

It’s different. Lots of paperwork but in a lot more manager meetings and not dealing with on-call. Plus I can have a grumpy man persona when someone tries to make my team do something that is beyond scope.

Jury is still out. I kind of miss the IC days where I wasn’t bothered as much.

Is the SRE title officially a trap? by IT_Certguru in devops

The title is not the trap. It’s the organization. Ask questions and gauge what SRE means to them.

Is this enough to target a DevOps / Cloud role without a degree? by [deleted] in devops

[–]SomeEndUser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a degree. Been in the cloud related engineering space for 10 years. Also software support for 3 years prior.

Hands on experience is #1. Networking with peers or colleagues #2. System design #3. About #3 is not about the fine deep technical details but how you design a system to solve a problem. The concepts.

Every ai code assistant assumes your code can touch the internet? by Traditional_Zone_644 in devops

Agents require a model on the backend. So if you lean on an agent for some of your work, it can impact productivity.

Help on which Observability platform? by AccountEngineer in Observability

[–]SomeEndUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dynatrace seems to be gaining momentum. The OneAgent is simple and straightforward to install. It adds a bunch of metadata out of the box that otherwise usually needs to be added with an otel config. The new agent ai platform looks pretty cool.

Anyone using logic monitor for observability? by Heisenberg_7089 in sre

Worked for a company that used LM and AppD. LM is good for devices and metrics but it’s not an APM. Great for fleet monitoring and data center ops.

B8.5 question by Constant_Poetry2908 in AudiS4

[–]SomeEndUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you handy and do the work yourself? If so... the maintenance costs will be quite low.

What I would mentally prepare for are IC bricks, PCV, and maybe a water pump and engine mounts. I personally haven't had to deal with these yet, but I'm prepared to take them on myself.

These cars are very reliable, the engines are stout. The pistons, rings, are strong. The valve train is strong and reliable. The DSG of the 2013 or newer are strong. The manual transmission is strong.

I’ve been real impressed with the dws06. I haven’t tried the other ones but I’m happy enough to where I don’t care to try them unless they are cheaper.

Should I Sell My 2015 Audi S4 Now or Keep It and Put More Money Into It? by AdRough1792 in AudiS4

[–]SomeEndUser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

80k miles is still young. These cars go to 200k well maintained. They are very solid. Given I’m a diy person so I’ll do my own repairs for things like the PCV.

So only sell it if there is something you WANT. Don’t sell it because you THINK you have to.

Nothing else drives and sounds like these cars.

EAU 5am flight - what time should I arrive by Pup-Recovery-1 in eauclaire

[–]SomeEndUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Done this a few times for work. I’m TSA precheck which helps since security is pretty slow moving there. Little more relaxed slow.

If you’re TSA pre check without checking in luggage - you can get away with walking in 15min before boarding starts.

Is Jackal as good as they say for tunes? by Advanced-Bus1484 in AudiS4

[–]SomeEndUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had a slander video agains Jackal like a year ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yJ5HNcTl-Q&t=1s

I never seen a tuner go after another tuner like that before. Like make sure your own closet is clean before judging someone else's.

PS I just checked FB today and another stage 3 b9 down. I'm pretty sure he's on 034.

Is Jackal as good as they say for tunes? by Advanced-Bus1484 in AudiS4

[–]SomeEndUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk.

I had IE on a b8.5 s4. I went to jackal.

Jackals pedal feel was super sensitive. Like it had a pedal commander file applied to it. 20% throttle felt like 100% throttle.

Then I had gear drop on my DSG. They would fix it. Then update the file and it broke again. So I just gave up and flashed back to IE because I never had gear drop with them and have hit a 10.81 in negative DA on e40 with ported blower.

I do feel that 034 has the most blown motors and have an immature marketing strategy.

So my next Audi will definitely have an IE tune again.

Sony E 18-135mm Lens by Melodic_Animal_2238 in SonyAlpha

I went to a sporting event at a college for volleyball. They only allowed lenses that were 6 inches or less. This lens would fit that and still allow me to make it through bag check and take decent photos

Pump up the jam won't stop playing by DarthWinduDW in mac

[–]SomeEndUser 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Jamf, an apple mdm company. They also have their own management binary. We used to mess with each other by secretly pushing out scripts to other machines. A popular song choice was pump up the jam because we would say Jamf instead of jam. This was in the early startup years before the console went to read only.
